Honestly this is just a hidden gem of a place. There is limited seating inside so best to get to go. The food is really good, especially the tamales, the green chili stew and the cheese enchiladas. The food reminds me of what my baby...sitter Luz cooked for me when I was a child and my dad was stationed in San AntonioMore

Delicious, cheap, appropriately surly service -- that is what you want in a little cafe like this. I feel guilty for not coming here sooner. I had the chilis relleno that were excellent - pungent chilis, good cheese, hot sauce. I will be coming back...for the pork tamales (I have a freezer full right now). And they have tres leches cake! They charge extra for credit cards.More

This place is absolutely amazing! They have the best street tacos and the Pork Chile Rojo Sopes are TO DIE FOR!!!! This place is a little hole in the wall, you know the best kind, very small probably like 6 tables and a couple of...seats at the counter. Their food is so good and the quality of ingredients are amazing. The family that owns it are very nice. One of our go-to's when we want real deal Mexican!More

I was in the neighborhood on an errand and went here for lunch. I was impressed with the authentic Mexican food. I got a combination plate and the tacos, & sopes were very tasty. I will definitely return!

I have now gone to Tarahumaras several times because the food it is so good. I take coworkers here for lunch often and never have had a bad experience. The place is not fancy, and doesn't have public bathrooms so make sure you take care...of that before you go there. :) It's well worth the trip though. Everyone I have taken now frequent them as much or more than I do. If you like authentic, cultural foods, this is the place to visit.More

If you like TexMex, have a Jose Pepper's gift card in your wallet, or really dig a plate of enchiladas obliterated with cheese, go else where. If you like authentic mexian fare, this is the place! Go with the sopes and you won't be disappointed....The chiles (red or green) with potato are great. Cheap and solid food. Among my favorites in KC. Very low gringo factor.More

This is in my 'Too 3' Mexican restaurants (and they 3 are basically equal, as they each bring something different to the table-literally)! Ha ha ha Incredible, Authentic food, very reasonable prices, they definitely don't cheat you on the serving portions, and they have a...Special (I think every day)! The owner is such a friendly guy, and he even explained the history of the name 'Tarahumara! I'll let you find out for yourself. It isn't a big place, just one of those small, family owned places that you wish you would have known about, much sooner! Give them a try! JosephMore

I had the pork tamales combo, which was $5.99. It is hard to find a meal this good for this price. The atmosphere is nothing to write home about, but the folks who took and handed me my order were very kind. They offered extra...salsa, which was kind, and included plasticware and napkins in my take-away bag without my asking, which is a nice touch of service (it is amazing how many do not do this without asking.)More

They are at their third location since I moved to KC 13 years ago (not counting their sit-down restaurant) and this is the best combo platter you will ever have. I don't know what or how, but everything on the menu is fresh, flavorful and...fulfilling. New location on Merriam Lane has a few sit down spots, but you still order at the counter. The Sopes are like little corn pillows stuffed with heaven.More
