My husband stays away from anything that has "cafe" in the name, so when he suggested we try this place I jumped at the chance. It is a circa 1860's historical home on the residential side of town (on Main Street). Upon walking in the door, I thought it was going to be more formal (and expensive) than we were... More

This restaurant is great for a slow, lazy afternoon. It is a very peaceful atmosphere, low key with great-tasting food. The portions are a bit small for the price in my opinion, but it is always tasty. This restaurant has beautiful decor. Much effort has been taken to keep it historical and related to the small town. A must see... More

I liked the restored house, the food and, specially, the kindness of the owners... And of course, I learned a lot of history and funny facts that they told us in a funny way.

This evening we went to the Trail Days Museum and Restaurant. The entire restaurant is a walk through history: the restored home, turned restaraunt, the menu with samplings of food from the people that have settled in the area. As we ate (roasted Elk, buffalo to Swedish meatballs) we were regaled with stories of the local history of the Santa... More

Great people, great place. The history of KS is in their menu. They have food you will like and a good variety of food. Lots of history to view in cafe while food is being prepared. Yea to trip advisor for bringing this place to my attention. Would have overlooked this gem if it hadn't been for the prior strong... More

Having grown up in NE Kansas, I've long wished to visit the US Cavalry Museum at Fort Riley. On a day trip from Kansas City, our itinerary brought us through Council Grove to the Trail Days Cafe. We wanted to find some local flavor in an out of the way location, and didn't want to end up eating at some... More

The entertaining and gracious hosts will take you back in time with explanations of the menu and how it pertains to the history of the area. The food was spectacular in perfect portions. A must-visit restaurant in Council Grove.

Fantastic place. Very unusual to have the town historian as cook/waiter/proprietor. The food is really good, and a nice selection. They are able to accommodate families, and they have seating for larger parties in the basement. Council Grove is a town which is very proud of its heritage, and this restaurant houses a trove of historical info.

Trail Days Cafe serves American Indian, Old World, Early American and 20th Century food in a neat old stone building which is part of a museum complex. The couple who run the place love what they are doing and couldn't be friendlier or try harder. During our most recent visit, we enjoyed roast elk and Toad in the Hole (sausages... More

Had a very nice Staurday evening dinner. The ambiance is great and the work on restoring the historical significance of the house is to be commended. Food was great with interesting choices.
