We hosted a Sunday lunch for 28 people in the garden room to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The room takes up to 30 people and provides a great room for a bit of privacy but is also part of the restaurant "atmosphere". The food, wine and beer were excellent, the service was good and everyone enjoyed themselves. I wouldn't hesitate... More

Yet another great evening at the Black Horse. Despite a very busy and noisy Saturday night the table was ready on time and the service was very good. Food as usual top draw with the Blade of Beef standing out for me. 4 Very good starters and mains with all of us enjoying the atmosphere and the food. We will... More

Went here last saturday with friends and i must say although quite expensive worth every penny! The whole place was packed out but the service and especially the food were faultless. I recomend the scallop starter and the rib eye steak which was one of the best ive had. Will definately be back to this quaint snug pub in the... More

We enjoyed the food and atmosphere. It's a bit more expensive than some others but the food is also above average.

We visited for Sunday lunch with friends who often stop at the Black Horse while out cycling or walking, and recommended it. The setting is unimpeachable, high on the Downs, and both inside and outside the pub looks really good. Service is laid-back but not inattentive, and at no time did we ever feel rushed, so top marks all round... More

We have been to this restaurant before a few months ago and we had ordered our meal and the people that turned up a good 20 minutes later had ordered the same meal but with a different accompaniment. They had our meals given to them and we had to wait even longer and ended up with the wrong meals and... More

This is one truly unique place, located in Maidstone. A big group of us went down to celebrate a colleague's birthday. We arrived and were stunned by the interesting interior. There was so much eye candy around the place. Menu looked great at first, however food did not taste any special. In fact it felt rather basic and I did... More

Because I was visiting friends who live in Kent, we made our way to the Black Horse Inn for lunch. Fortunately they knew where it was, because I would have never found it without their help. Lunch was excellent, we were seated at a lovely table overlooking the gardens and it was a beautiful sunny spring day. The chicken dish... More

Have been going to the Black Horse for several years and have never been disappointed. They always have an extensive and inviting menu and always cooked to perfection. Only ever had one problem, mussels for starter - half of which had not opened - they immediately said they would not charge us. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Have... More

Arrived late for lunch and enjoyed a "door step" sandwich lunch and good pint of ale which went down nicely. The menu looked extensive and the restaurant was very busy. Very good and hospitable service in the front bar in a comfortable chair by the real log fire. Not being a local finding this pub/restaurant/B & B was not easy,... More

Nestling in the picturesque North Downs its hard to believe that Maidstone is only a stones throw away from Thurnams Black Horse Inn. Looking from the outside like the most traditional pub in Britain white washed, tile hung, sash windowed, sign swinging in the breeze inside will come as no great shock. In winter youll find a roaring fire in the imposing brick fireplace, dried hops drape from the ceiling and antiquey dark wood is in abundance. In summer diners can head outside to a paradise of shadey pergolas, ponds and green lawn or eat in the conservatory. Homegrown produce is key in a sophisticated menu which combines traditionalism with contemporary dining with impressive results.
