Just popped in as we was passing and was fortunate to get a table for Sunday Lunch. Friendly cheerful attentive staff. Lovely surroundings. Open fires. Try the devilled chicken livers as a starter.... Fabulous; as was the soup of the day. Followed by traditional Roast Beef. Cooked pink. Lovely. Freshly cooked veg and a side of cauliflower cheese made for... More

Nice pub. Staff very friendly. Mussels mariniere was good. Goats cheese in breadcrumbs was a bit too stodgy - smaller portion with lighter veg would have improved it. Kids meals were merely average. So OK, but have had better (and cheaper) elsewhere. The real let down was the long wait for food (45 min from when we sat down) at... More

I have eaten here on 3 occasions and have never been disappointed. The service is exceptional along with the wine list and menu. Its always best to book as always busy even on a week day day. To actually finish a sunday roast here is a feat unto itself as the portions of fresh veg, crispy roast potatoes and mounds... More

A varied menu at reasonable prices. Book a table as it gets busy. The staff are knowledgeable friendly and attentive. Both dishes we ate were delicious a cooked to perfection. A good selection of local beers are also on offer

One of my favourite restaurants to be found in a delightful village. The ambience is pleasant without too much noise or blaring music and the meals, beautifully presented, mouthwatering, especially the fillet steak. A comfortable venue with an interesting history. I can't wait to return. I am not a pud eater but my husband certainly is and polishes off whatever... More

Really loved this restaurant, the food was absolutely lovely, personally I find the menu choice a little limited, I feel they could do or change some items that would suit different pallets, this said, I thoroughly enjoyed the Fillet steak, cooked to order and preference, amazing home made chips. Good service, place was busy but staff were efficient, couple of... More

I visited this pub with a group of 10 friends for Sunday lunch and we were all impressed with the service, value for money and quality of the food. In general when in a large group, a lot of restaurants struggle to bring out the food together and in a timely manner. The Sunday roast was £12 and there was... More

Description
Nestling in the picturesque North Downs its hard to believe that Maidstone is only a stones throw away from Thurnams Black Horse Inn. Looking from the outside like the most traditional pub in Britain white washed, tile hung, sash windowed, sign swinging in the breeze inside will come as no great shock. In winter youll find a roaring fire in the imposing brick fireplace, dried hops drape from the ceiling and antiquey dark wood is in abundance. In summer diners can head outside to a paradise of shadey pergolas, ponds and green lawn or eat in the conservatory. Homegrown produce is key in a sophisticated menu which combines traditionalism with contemporary dining with impressive results.
