Food and surroundings can't be faulted. Good menu choice. Steaks are a good bet. Family friendly and good beers! Visited this on numerous occasions including a surprise family get together for my wife on her birthday. When the weather is good the outdoor area is a delight.

I booked a table for my boyfriends birthday on Sunday as I had heard great things from family and friends and we were not disappointed. Our reservation was at 6pm but as we were slightly early we sat in the garden which was lovely as the sun was out. The Sunday lunch menu is available up until 6pm and from... More

This was the first time we have visited this pub/restaurant , set in a lovely location very rural. The inside of the the pub is stunning, with hops around the bar and restaurant , quirky little areas to dine. Very old pub. We found the food very average , and the starters were very small portions I had the Scollops,... More

I love the Black Horse, not least because of the wonderful fruit wines. Visited on Sunday with the family for lunch which was delicious as always. A little disappointed with the small amount of vegetables served with our roast. Six people - only one small side dish of veg and one of cauliflower cheese. We thought another would arrive but... We ate in the pub as we were staying overnight in the motel/cabins (see hotel review). It was fairly quiet when we entered but filled rapidly with both hotel guests and several locals. The bar was extremely doggy friendly. Our order was taken reasonably quickly and service was not too far behind. However, we waited for a long time for... More

Turned up on a busy fathers day lunch. Table was booked. Ordered drinks at the bar and after 5 mins was shown to our table. Menu was set price 3 course, with limited choice. They had roast lamb, beef and chicken and as we all fancied a roast that was fine. Service was good. We ordered starters, one of our... More

Good Service. Excellent food. Great place! Outside area useful on a good day, sadly it was tipping down the day we eat there but we still walked in the gardens.

Usually I love the food here always good high quality but sadly the dish I had this visit was well below par . Ricotta gnocchi . Dry , lumpy , not mixed properly , two contained only large pieces of ricotta , and one the flour wasn't cooked properly . Served with peas that tasted starchy and old . On... More

I visited here for my family birthday meal. I was looking forward to eating out as id been at work all day and it was bank holiday. We arrived at the bar with a miserable young boy behind the bar who obviously didnt want to be working on a bank holiday. We said we had a table booked but we... More

Description
Nestling in the picturesque North Downs its hard to believe that Maidstone is only a stones throw away from Thurnams Black Horse Inn. Looking from the outside like the most traditional pub in Britain white washed, tile hung, sash windowed, sign swinging in the breeze inside will come as no great shock. In winter youll find a roaring fire in the imposing brick fireplace, dried hops drape from the ceiling and antiquey dark wood is in abundance. In summer diners can head outside to a paradise of shadey pergolas, ponds and green lawn or eat in the conservatory. Homegrown produce is key in a sophisticated menu which combines traditionalism with contemporary dining with impressive results.
