I have been in the Des Moines area for 4 weeks and this is my favorite. They are listed as a Russian restaurant, apparently because the owner is Russian. I would call their food American. A cool hip vibe to the place. I had dinner...at the bar. The fabulous bartender had great recommendations. I had shrimp cocktail, steak de burgo (it’s a Des Moines thing), whipped potatoes, asparagus tempura, garlic butter rolls and creme brûlée. Everything was cooked perfectly and was delicious. A relaxing and fun place to enjoy a great meal. The place was full on a Thursday night.More

Irina travels around the dining room to make certain each customer is satisfied in the way old-school restaurants were operated, and it's fantastic. Unique Russian dishes along with American favorites...and tons of Russian vodkas available for cocktails.

Steaks, seafood, pasta or sandwiches it really doesn’t matter what you’re looking for because Irina’s staff will consistently hit the mark as much or more than any restaurant in the Des Moines Metro area. They focus on high quality ingredients and terrific execution in their...kitchen and it shows! Tip, they’ll hand cut your steak to fit your appetite. Photos enclosed of a delicious 12oz and 25oz king sized ribeyes!More

We like Russian food, and so finding a Restaurant named Irina's, we hoped we'd struck gold. They had three meals that were Russian, the potato piroghi (a fried potato dish), pork shashlik (typically cooked on a skewer, like shishkabob), and the beef stroganoff. We had...all three, and I enjoyed the shashlik. My daughter also had the shashlik, and didn't enjoy it as much, I thought perhaps there was a little too much dill. She loved the Russian potatoes. And my wife had the beef stroganoff, which she enjoyed. The waiter came by later, and asked how everything was, to which my daughter said, 'okay'. To which the waiter replied, 'is she being polite?', which she was. So he volunteered to get her some dessert for free, which she didn't feel free to accept, but after he brought it out, and she had it, she said it was awesome. So overall, good service, good food depending on how you like your spices. Just wish they had more Russian available.More

I have read several reviews for Irina's and I don't ever write a review on any business; however when the experience is very negitive I can't let it go. We were seated quickly and when we decided what we were going to have our order...was taken in a timely manner. After the order was taken I think we were snubbed. After an hour and a half a lady came by the table, I believe she was the owner, and asked if everything was okay, obviously it wasn't. She was told we had not received our food and how long we had been waiting, she told us she would expidite our order. The person that took our order came and appoligized for it taking so long, but I believe he didn't even turn it in. We should have gotten up and left, which I wish we had. My husband did not like his food, said the tenderloin was tough and the fries had a funny taste, I was not impressed with my food either. The blackened piece of salmon was good the pasta was over sauced and very bland. The place was not what I expected and will NOT recommend it to anyone and will never go back.More

Can be noisy. Food and help is very good, but pricey. Parking is limited get there early and make a reservation unless you like to stand and wait for a table.

My grandma and I are major foodies and love trying new things. We ordered the sage chicken and it was tender and full of lover. The carrot cake tasted like heaven! Our waitress and the owner are super friendly. We will be coming back!
