If you happen to be traveling on I-80 and are on the western edge of Iowa, stop in to Buck Snort restaurant in Neola, near Council Bluffs. My wife and I did. We were looking for something different. When she found Buck Snort, we knew...we had to go. I'm glad we did.
Buck Snort has a deep menu but their specialty is specialty burgers. That's what we went with. I got the Moose burger with their special Moose Sauce. Really good. My wife got the Swamp Donkey. I can tell you it is MUCH better than it sounds.
The only reason I did not give five stars was I thought the sides were just alright. I had the mac and cheese. I expected it to be something different. It tasted like Kraft. Nothing wrong with that. I just expected more. My wife got the waffle fries. Again, good but nothing special.
The only adult beverages sold is beer. I think it is all in bottles, no tap. Definitely a laid back place.
We really enjoyed our meal. The burgers are certainly worth the five minute detour off of I-80. The staff is friendly and the place is clean. Oh, the decor is deer heads and skulls. Pretty interesting. They are open for lunch and dinner. Jump off I-80 and give them a try!More
This place is just fun to watch the Waitresses/Waiters put their order on a zip-line the kitchen.. And I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it>.. Picture attached. I had the Swamp Donkey Wrap and fires. Yes they make their own dip'n sauce.....Thank you Thank you Thank you!!! so much fun.. A must do in Council Bluffs or Glenwood Iowa..More
We were driving on I-80 and were looking for a quick dinner stop. We chose Buck Snort based on reviews. The restaurant was very convenient! It was clean and the staff was friendly. Seemed like a good choice BUT we made a huge mistake. Rather...than ordering one of their well reviewed burgers we decided to take advantage of their Tuesday Pizza special- one any size pizza with any amount of toppings for $12.95. We were given a choice of thin crust or a thicker crust. We chose a Cheeseburger Pizza on a thin crust. The pizza was huge. There were a generous amount of toppings. The problem was the crust! It was thin and very, very, VERY crispy. It practically shattered when we bit it.
So, based on our experience, stick with something other than pizza and if you decide on pizza, try the thicker crust.More
Stopped in while driving through and was thoroughly impressed with all of the food. BBQ was solid, as was the pizza. Could maybe use a few more decent beers as opposed to the domestic lights, but that’s just picking nits. Will definitely return if in...the area.More
Today was a great day for our family as some of our families met for the first time in 57 years and what better place to share new memories than at The Buck Snort!
Thoroughly enjoyed our experience and excellent visit we had here today....Our last visit to this establishment was Dec 22, 2014, our review can be seen in earlier posts.
The Mooseburger, Chuckanator, chicken fingers, BLT and the Bucksnort philly were delicious and cooked to perfection.
The staff was friendly and the restaurant was extremely clean and uniquely decorated.
If you find yourself in western Iowa on I-80 look for exit 23 and The Buck Snort is a short jaunt ahead and very well worth the stop to experience something uniquely good!More
We would rate this place a 10!!! Super clean, friendly, and great food too! We will return, already planning our return trip!
The best fried pickles we have ever had, and the patty melt was fabulous!!!
My only recommendation is "DON'T MISS THE BUCK SNORT!!!"
We just wondered in, but what a great find. Very much sports bar type food, so if that's what you're looking for, this place is very good.
I ordered "Trophy Buck Nachos" which was a Western version of traditional Mexi-Style Nachos. It had pulled pork...and BBQ sauce with tomatoes, etc. It was excellent.
The service literally could not have been better. Seriously nice folks.
Burgers, Pizza, Salads, and Wraps were also on the menu.More
Being from Kansas City we always like to check out barbecue and other locations. I had a swamp donkey which was BBQ brisket, onion rings and other deliciousness on a burger. Very tasty. My husband had the patty melt with grilled onions and mushrooms. It...has bacon also! And you can can't go wrong with bacon. The staff is friendly and welcoming. I would definitely come back again !More
