I was looking for food and concerned about covid virus, so I intentionally went off the beaten path and found this gem. Staff was professional and warm. Food was good and reasonably priced. I felt safe.
I am ashamed to admit, but it has been 2 years since I last visited the Minden Bowl Cafe & Lounge...and I must confess that this is totally bad...because the experience of eating in the cafe is so overwhelmingly wonderful, why shouldn't a person return...more frequently to experience this ???
The last visit, in Feb 2018, I dined on their prime rib Friday/Saturday night special...which was incredibly delicious !!!
This time through, I was treated to their pork tenderloin sandwich...which is hand cut on the premises, then tenderized, then breaded, and then cooked to perfection. Served with a side of their homemade potato chips. Final answer: probably the best pork tenderloin sandwich I have consumed !!!...(and in my 66 years, I consider myself a connoisseur of the pork tenderloin sandwich). The tenderloin is soooo fresh tasting, hands down outstanding. And the homemade potato chips are incredibly crispy...not greasy, not overly salted...perfection!!!
And for dessert, had to dive into their homemade oreo cheesecake. Usually I am a plain cheesecake guy...and here again, I have developed an expertise in determining what I consider to be a great cheesecake...but I took a chance on this cheesecake "flavor" and was most definitely glad I did. Absolutely dreamy-creamy heaven accented with crumbled oreo cookies...what a super combination !!!
Please give the Minden Bowl Cafe & Lounge a visit the next time you are in the vicinity...you will be glad you stopped by !!!
On the plus side, the food served in this simple cafe is prepared with care. It’s family owned and operated. The burger meat is from the local old meat market, down the street, where the faded sign says they slaughter and prepare, so that must...mean that the beef is local and fresh. My “popper burger” came with good bacon and small deep-fried slices of jalapeno that added a nice flavor and texture. See my photo. The food was much better than at most bowling alleys, and it was obvious that local people come here to eat and meet.
On the minus side, this store is old and well worn. The formica top on my table looked like it had been used heavily for at least forty years, and that’s typical of the whole facility. It’s about as attractive as your grandma’s basement. Credit cards are not accepted. I got no cell reception from AT&T.
Minden is a small town about 30 miles from Omaha, and at least 30 years behind. Next door to the Cafe is an American Legion lodge, and across the street is the Minden Community Club. There’s not much else.
If you want to step back from chains and modernity, and enjoy tasty food at a genuine local place that time has forgotten, this place might be for you.More
Short and to the point...if you like to bowl, or you are needing some great grub, or need to wet your whistle with an adult beverage...then head to Minden, Iowa and get to the Minden Bowl Cafe & Lounge. They can meet all of these...needs...it's soooo awesome !!! The cafe serves great American comfort food...burgers, hot beef sandwich, and even Prime Rib on Friday and Saturday nites. They have a 6 lane bowling alley that is quite popular...heck, they have league bowling 3, and sometimes 4 nites, a week !!! And the bar is right next door...the back bar is totally cool, from the 1940's.
The really nice thing to me is that the cafe and the bar and the bowling alley are each in their own building, but they share common walls and they are all interconnected...which is nice because then when you are in the cafe, you don't have the noise from the alley or bar, and the alley doesn't get all the aromas from the cafe, and the bar doesn't get all the hubbub from the alley are the cafe.
Great atmosphere, great food, great service, great prices !!!
Super nice place to go grab some food, have a drink, and maybe even bowl a line or two...or just watch !!! It's located about 3 to 4 miles off Interstate 80...so it's a quick and easy on/off from the highway.
Great little place just a short drive off I-80. Nice friendly folks put out decent food at a reasonable price. Enjoyed the catfish with loaded baked potato for $12. The meal was good but way too much food. While it is a bit off the...beaten path it is worth a stop.More
I have a separate review of the hotel, but right next door in this tiny town is the Minden Bowl Cafe. I got to town late ( after 9 ) and everything was closed but as I walked by the bowling alley, it said "Now...open for breakfast" Being the only food in town, I figured I would give it a shot. WOW. Its like eating at home with your mom. Nice older lady was the only one working, said Hi, make yourself at home the second I walked thru the door. There was a table of farmers a couple tables over discussing the rain...crops...and if so and so needed help on their farm that day because he was ill. Real America! I ordered a regular breakfast with bacon/eggs/hash browns/toast. Watched her crack the fresh eggs, cook my fresh hash browns in a skillet. No deep fryers here for breakfast. Everything was GREAT. Just like mom. Huge portion, fresh, hot you couldn't ask for more. Got directions, and was on my way. Its not much to look at, but get off the interstate, and try this breakfast sometime. You will thank me after.More
