At the end of a long week of business on the road I often reward myself with a nice dinner. I look at TripAdvisor for that town and select one. This time it was a steakhouse in a 100 year old building in Mason City....First time in years that I had a properly grilled medium rare Ribeye. Fantastic.More

It had been a couple of years since we last visited this restaurant. Nothing has changed , the food is just as great as always. My wife and I split a 14 ounce NY strip. I just can't eat like I used to. The steak...and the rice were delicious. The only change is that they open at 4:30 PM rather than 5 now. We're planning on returning to Mason City next fall, which means we'll be back at the Northwest Steakhouse.More

Well I know I have already written a review about this amazing little hometown restaurant, but more needs to be said. Owners, Bill and Ann have done a fantastic job, in the year of COVID-19, to keep their guests safe. Northwestern Steakhouse is the first...place we have ventured inside to eat and celebrate my birthday. They have separated tables to a safe distance. They have these darling booths which they have separated with plexiglass, and also covered the tables with plexiglass, putting the menus and wine list underneath so no one touches them. All of the waitstaff wear face masks....all of this making us feel very safe and able to enjoy the BEST steak and pasta in the country. One more thing I have to mention is their blue cheese dressing. If you like blue cheese be sure to order the creamy dressing with the blue cheese crumbles...yum-yum!!More

My husband surprised me with a Valentine dinner at the Northwestern Steakhouse! What a treat! We didn’t understand how the reservation system worked, but Robin, the hostess did her best to accommodate us. They have a very nice upstairs now where you can wait, and...a lovely young lady that served us drinks and took care of us until our table was ready. Now on to our meal. Soooo delicious! Our lady’s filets were done to medium, perfectly and melt in your mouth tender. You have to have their pasta (noodles) side dish....it was so delicious. I had blue cheese dressing on my salad and our server suggested having a combination of creamy and dry. OMG, it was the best I’ve had in years. Everyone was so friendly and helpful on such a busy night. When we left, we both agreed it was the best Valentines dinner we’d ever had. Thank you to the crew!More

Sat night went to dinner with fam and friends. Was told this is the place. Had reservations at 7pm. Seated right away. The waitress took our drink order and returned in a timely fashion. Then dinner order. The waitress brought bread then soon after the...salads. Dinner took a bit but not so bad. All had steaks but one and that was chicken. Everyone enjoyed dinner. Its hard to please eight people. Parking is ok. Lot was full but street parking is ample. Service was great and food was as good. Rest room was clean. Will return next time in town.More

We just got back from dinner at the Northwestern Steakhouse and we were not disappointed. Yes the place is old and small and it is a no frills restaurant but the food is very good and reasonably priced. Coming from Washington state a 9 ounce...filet, potato, salad and bread for 29.95 is very reasonable. Seating is a little tight but the servers make it work. They have limited sides and no fancy sauces, but the star of the show is the meat. The steak does not require any sauces, as it was seasoned and juicy. Customer service was top notch and it was a very pleasant meal. It is what it is, a a great place to go eat a steak.More

Venue is small in size and seating can get tight in places. Customer service is top notch. Waiting lounge up top (see pics) is spacious. Excellent quality meal with good portions for the pricing. Had a fillet cooked to medium rare and it was done...to perfection. The meat was very tender as well. Baked potato was as soft as mashed potatoes it was prepared so well. Pre-meal salad and bread were decent also. Getting in is a process so be prepared but the restaurant is definitely worth the stop.More

Small. Dingy. Weird. No where near what a good steak is supposed to be. Air conditioning was turned off while we were there so it was almost claustrophobic This was exacerbated by the tiny seating. I am confused as to what people that have rated...this place highly have been eating until now. Massively mediocre and below standard in so many ways. It may be the best place at this price within a hundred miles but seriously. Get out more. It isn't even inexpensive! So not a even a good bang for the buck.More
