We had a fabulous lunch here. Two of us had the pecan crusted salmon with blueberry compote and red pepper risotto and both loved it. One tried the chicken and dumplings supper special--so good that there were no leftovers to take home.

There are only superlatives to describe our experience at the Crane & Pelican. The house itself is beautifully maintained, very clean and tidy. The lawn is well groomed. We were seated in the back by the kitchen, but the room is lovely with only a few tables and a nice small bar. Service was prompt and attentive. The menu is small, but that allows the kitchen to perfect each dish. We tried the dates stuffed with goat cheese and cranberries-they were great. My husband had the asparagus sandwich and I had the garlic salad with added shrimp. Friends tried the salmon dinner and salmon sandwich. The sides offered are very different than the usual affair. Be sure to sample the deserts. The ice cream is great and the orange crepes are primo. Not a scrap left on our plates. Because of the weather, instead of playing on the lawn, the scheduled jazz trio set up one dining room and was a pleasant addition to the evening.

We love finding places like this. The restaurant is inside an historic, old mansion which is always cool. The views were great as our table had a great view of the Mississippi River. The waiter was fantastic... friendly, personable, funny and full of great information about the history of the building. Most importantly, the food was amazing. The ingredients were very fresh and the flavor combinations were outstanding. We would highly recommend Crane & Pelican to our clients and will definitely be back when we’re in the area. -The Power Trippers

This place is rated #1 Crane and Pelican not so much I had Shrimp with angel hair pasta, the shrimp looked and tasted like they had got some precooked at the grocery store the pasta was very gummy my wife got the salmon overcooked and not fresh broccoli was cold salmon croquettes not as good as we make with canned, and it was our most expensive meal of the trip. They must be going through something because our waiter was doing double duty as bartender not that it mattered because when we got there one couple was leaving and when we were seated we were the only people there, another couple came in after us and that was it. Very disappointed.

We were returning to Minnesota on a road trip from Massachusetts. after the long drive in 2 days, we decided to stop for dinner on July 20, 2021. A GPS search came up The Crane and Pelican. I was intrigued, and what a find! Inside this beautiful old ship captain's mansion overlooking the Mississippi River is an awesome discovery. Once entering we were greeted warmly by a beautiful young lady with a big smile. She gave us a table for two by the porch window. As we were admiring the architecture of this old house, the same person was our server. I am sorry, but I missed getting her name, but I want to give credit for such special service. She told us she had been working here for only a couple of months. She was very knowledgeable of the menu items and treated us with the best of service. I hope she is paid well and deserves the recognition. We ordered a glass of red wine for me, Sangria for my wife. My wife had the Meatloaf dinner and I had the Cajun Pasta with shrimp. Both were excellently prepared and had superb flavors. My salute to the chef! The dessert menu is fabulous, we tried an Orange Crepe dessert. .. wonderful, flavors were awesome. Never had crepes for a desert before. This place hosts live music, weddings, and special outdoor events. One can reserve a big room or the entire mansion. I wish we lived closer, we would visit here weekly if we did. For us this is a true hidden gem. I very highly recommend this place to anyone and I have already told many of my friends. Best wishes to the staff here and especially our great hostess/server.

We stopped here again for dinner on Friday, July 8, 2022. This was a our 2nd visit, last year we discovered this place when driving a different route back to Minnesota from the east coast. This year, took the same route again, fortunately arrived in Le Claire just around dinner time. We arrived at 5:30 PM, it was early enough to immediately get a table as all except 2 tables were reserved. Almost all tables were filled by 6PM as there was a live jazz band playing. I ordered a glass of Bordeaux, my wife a glass of Sangria. My wife had the Gyro with Lobster Bisque Soup. I had the Meatloaf Sandwich with Southwestern Chicken Soup. My wife thought the bisque was superb and the gyro delicious. My meatloaf sandwich was huge with arugula and Jeana's tomato jam all on a brioche bun. It was soooo good, but I had a difficult time finishing the meatloaf, it was so big. Prices here are reasonable and you may order a big meal or stick to appetizers or sandwich. all available at dinner. The free live music (donations accepted, I gave $5) was great and set the atmosphere for a wonderful time. Our server was only identified by #18 on our bill, so I don't know her name, but we were served well. We love this old ship captains house with it's wonderful fixtures. This is our favorite restaurant away from home.

We live about a hour away but have never shopped in LeClaire. We've eaten here once but wanted to try a new place this time. I chose The Crane & Pelican because of their online menu. Lunch was simple. Only four sandwiches were offered which gives the cook a chance to excel and he/she did. We both chose the meatloaf sandwich. I had mine without the bread and it was a huge piece of meatloaf and delicious. We started the meal with the Iowa corn dip and it was fantastic. The coffee was good and the service by Autumn was on spot. We will definitely go back and try the other lunch items.

We stumbled upon this restaurant after visiting The Pickers. Who knew that this would become our favorite pit stop on our way from Peoria to Galena? The owner and staff make you feel like family and the food is innovative, delicious, and reasonably priced. Sometimes we drive to Iowa just to have lunch here and then do some shopping. If you’ve never eaten here before, do yourself a favor and stop in. You’ll be glad you did!!

Beautifully appointed and maintained captains home from the mid 1800’s. It sits atop a bluff with the Mississippi River in view below. The outdoor area around live musicians on Friday and Saturday nights is charming. The menu is simple and all items are tasty. We had the stuffed dates appetizer and the spinach dip with homemade crackers. Our main courses were meatloaf and a filet. Each was served with asparagus and a bacon mashed potato pilaf. All the food was delicious. Desserts featured their ice creams made on site. The service was excellent. We will definitely return.

We can’t say enough good things about Mandy and her team at Pelican & Crane. We catered our wedding of 150 guests and opted for a buffet-style meal (including salad, Cajun Chicken Pasta, Meatloaf Sliders, Smashed Potatoes, and Green Beans). First, the food was spectacular! Everything was fresh, full of flavor, and we’ll prepared. We received many compliments from our guests on the food. Second, Mandy’s input was spot on to make sure our meal was a success. Third, her team went above and beyond at the event itself. They were very attentive to ensure everything was clean and the guests were happy. We would use them 100x over and 10/10 recommend.

We wanted to conclude our stay in Le Claire with a "special" dinner. The Crane & Pelican did not let us down! In our party of six, we had a vegan as well as a gluten-free diner, along with a super-picky mother. :) Every single one of us raved about our exceptional meals. To top it off, we were treated ourselves to the heavenly lavender-lemon cake and homemade ice cream. Finally, the service was wonderful and the view can't be beat. YUMMMMMYYYYYYY!!!

We live about a 4-1/2 hours drive from here, yet we have dined here several times. Why? Because we have made several road trips south and east from here. On our return towards home n Rochester, MN. we stop here for dinner if the timing is right. The timing was right on Thursday, January 4, 2024, we arrived about 5:30 PM and it was not busy so we were seated right away without a reservation. This time seated next to the windows looking out over the river. Great spot, with also a view of the bar. I had been a long day driving, so my wife had the Top Shelf Margarita and I had their Brandy Old Fashioned. great drinks, hit the spot! My wife ordered the Chicken Salad. I had cup of soup du jour and the Bourbon Loaf (meatloaf). Again, they always meet expectations of great food here. For dessert, we decided to share the Orange Crepes. Now, I believe they are currently short staffed. We were served by the bartender and also the owner. Not bad receiving our orders, except when it came to our dessert. It was forgotten.. we waited for them to catch up as it was now busy, with no other servers. Finally, we had to speak up about not getting the dessert. The owner brought it out to us. One little bump did not spoil the evening. Still a great place. They also have apparel here for sale. I wanted to buy a polo shirt but they were out of my size. They are so nice too, don't know when I will be able to get one. darn..

My cousin and I each got pick 2, 1/2 sandwich and garlic salads. I got the asparagus sandwich and she got meatloaf sandwich. Both were delicious, asparagus was unique and meatloaf light and moist. Left room for the lemon lavender cake. Definitely a great find and would highly recommend.

We went here after hearing great reviews from family and friends. The atmosphere was good, an old river house. The staff were friendly. The server was very knowledgeable and took care of us well. However, the food was below average. One had a Ceasars Salad with grilled chicken, no complaints. One had the chicken salad sandwich, no complaints. One had the lobster Mac and cheese and rated it 3 out of 5 stars. One had the salmon, and it was overcooked, and the mashed potatoes were cold. One had the brisket and rated it 1 out of 5. This is probably due to the fact didn't appear to be wood smoked and it was served with gravy and not BBQ sauce. The mashed potatoes were also cold. Then we saw that on Sundays they have a drag queen brunch, so be aware that happens on Sunday for brunch. I won't return.

Hosted a small bridal shower here for lunch and the atmosphere was beautiful! The owner was very accommodating with everything we wanted to do. Our server was great and very helpful! She kept checking on us to make sure we had everything we needed. Our lunch, appetizers and sangria were delicious! I had inquired many places and most did not even get back to me and many were outrageously priced! The Crane and pelican was perfect! I definitely recommend them for your private gathering!
