Had a business dinner there - party of 7. We had a private room in the back which was a nice surprise. Service was fantastic and the food was outstanding. Chopped salad with their homemade thousand island dressing is a must. The filet in the...butter garlic was cooked perfectly. Price was pretty good tooMore

My wife and I were in town for homecoming and thought we'd give Joseph's a try, in spite of some of the bad reviews. We're from Omaha, where there are several great steak houses, and we both thought the food was just as good or...better than any of our local places. We each had a cocktail before dinner, an Old Fashioned and Manhattan, and they were both great. I had the ribeye, my wife had prime rib (a special that day), and they were perfectly prepared. My wife thought it was the best prime rib she'd ever had, and that's saying something! The service couldn't have been any better, timely but not rushed. If you're up for a steak house experience, we'd both give Joseph's a thumb's up.More

Have dined here a number of times over the years, this was the first time in about 2 years. Still a good restaurant, but had a few hiccups. Justin, our server, came promptly and made some menu suggestions and took our drink orders. Waited a...while, then took our dinner orders. We had finished our bread and were starting on the soup before the drinks arrived. At this price point, that is not acceptable. Justin apologized and said that they were doing some training at the bar - I understand the need for training, but it needs to occur before the customers arrive. That said, the drinks were excellent, as always. I can't say the same for the soup, which was the seafood bisque. Have had the soups here before with good results, but this was terrible. It was thin, watery, and with virtually no flavor. Had to give it a hefty dose of salt to give it some taste. After that, however, everything went well. We had the New York strip steak, which was truly excellent, perfectly prepared. We had the boursin whipped potatoes and the asparagus for sides, both were really well done. More than willing to come again, hoping that the issues were due to an off-night, which any restaurant can have.More

Joseph's is my favorite restaurant in the Iowa City area.. The food is excellent, and the ambience like no other. I catch myself thinking I'm in Chicago or New York City when I dine there. Very elegant, very upscale. 5 stars!

We've eaten at Joseph's a couple of times. The first time my husband was not happy with his steak but my daughter loved hers and I loved my rack of lamb. Joseph's was her choice for her graduation dinner and this time everything was perfect!!...Our server recommended the onion rings and we were so glad she did!! We all had steaks and this time they were all perfect! We were also glad we ordered the creamed spinach and brussels sprouts and bacon. Even though our daughter graduated, we want to make the 4-hour drive back to Joseph's to enjoy the menu again!!More

This is an expensive restaurant for this area, but I would still recommend coming here for special occasions. The waitstaff is very good, and the atmosphere is very nice, with some booths made private with dividers and curtains. Our steaks (Ribeye) were very good. We...also enjoyed their unique potato dish and fresh broccoli. The salad was ordinary, though. We can't comment on the non-steak items on the menu, but our steaks were very good, although at the high a la carte prices they were definitely not a bargain. It is still worth a visit to a top-notch restaurant like this for a great meal once in a while.More

Lets just start with saying thank you Josephs Steakhouse for ruining our New Year Eve Plans on our first visit to your restaurant. We set a reservation for 8:45pm with the hopes of being finish with dinner with our party of for between 10:30 and...11:00pm. The experience was really bad from the tie we stepped in. We arrived at 8:30 and checked in because the follow up email said reservations would only be held for 10 minutes past their tie. so we still have a problem with understanding why we weren't seated until 9:15pm after asking and being told twice we were waiting for tables to be cleared. from Who? because we were watching ppl leave. So it really surprised us when she walked us around the door way to be seated and there were 7-8 2party and 4party tables completely empty. The restaurant wasn't overly busy by now so we figured ok its fine let make the best of it. Our server was a nice sweet very nervous college student who did the best he could, but our first interaction and drink order wasn't for another 15minutes eventually the drinks came hand he took our orders. we inquired about if you all carried aged steaks and he said yes , we said we didn't see them on the menu, and he said oh I forgot to mention them to you all. so after finally getting the orders in the soup and salads finally came and were finished. we were kinda wondering what was taking so long because again the restaurant wasn’t overly busy. the server came to refill the water and he said ok it will be little longer, we politely asked, how much longer? He stated about another 20 minutes. our party then request to see a manager. because now we have been inn the restaurant for almost two hours and the experience was horrible. He said ok and walked away. a minute later, a young lady walked up. she didn't introduce herself or any thing, her exact words were. he said you wanted to see a manager. at first we all just looked at each other because she came with an instant negative posture, attuite and everything. so one of our party began to explain that we have been here since 8:30-45pm and now were being told that we wont be able to eat until almost 10:45-50. we had other plans for the evening that now we are gonna miss. before our party could finish talking the your lady raised her voice over ours and said well the food takes a long time to cook. and were pretty busy so it will be out once its done. again I promise you we all just looked with out mouths open in disbelief. so as we again tried to explain to her that our plans and everything have been ruined for the evening, she again began to over talk us and say well it will be done when its done and it will be out soon, the person in our party who order the dry aged steak ask that his entire order be removed and if the rest of us wanted to stay and still eat we could. she still proceeded to talk loudly over us and say well some of you ordered your steak med well and those take more time then well done ones to cook. that made absoulty no sense to any of us. and then just walked clean away. after that we asked the server to just bring the bill for the drinks we ordered and we would leave. the food that was gonna take 20 minutes some how became available in the next few minutes now. we told him never mind and to please bring the bill he said he had to get the manager. his time a gentleman walked to the tablw. but before we could say anything the first thing he says is the food will be up. you didn't even ask what was wrong and why we were leaving. we told him us leaving had nothing to do with the wait for the food but the entire experience we received from the time we walked in. he then said well the food is ready now do you want to take it to go. we told him no. Who would and why do we have to eat $500+ worth of food out of Styrofoam container on the go when we have been here for over two hours now. all he could say is the food takes time and that our order wasnt put in to be cooked until 10:10pm. and that's not our fault we explained to him. he then said im sorry the food was to long and ill talk to the young lady. I then asked him to please stop making it seem like it was the wait for the food because it was the whole experience that we encountered. between the four of us we all own four business including a very successful currently open restaurant, so we all know good and poor service. I also stated to him that we know the matter wasn't going to be looked into or taken care of because of the simple fact that you never got any information, names, emails anything from us. I will not state the obvious reason why we know we received such awful service, but we also will not spend $500+ in a place were our money isn't looked at the same as others. Sorry. I just saw this question and you probably don't still need it. We went after graduation so we were dressed up but we've also gone pretty casual.
