I am a regular at La Mie. It has the great pastries and the best bread in Des Moines. The sandwiches are outstanding. I wish it were open in the evenings.

Feels like you're not in Des Moines IOWA. Great place. You won't be disappointed with the metropolitan flair, fresh and delicious choices.

Born in Chicago and a heavy traveler, I'm always somewhat surprised by these somewhat out-of-the way restaurants that behave and experience like something in Boston, LA or Chicago. That is, however, exactly what you'll get here. We had too many pastries too list, but needless to say, they're made on premise and laid out almost "buffet" style on various tables... More

This is a bakery and a restaurant. There food is made from fresh ingredients and their own breads. They are often packed because it is such good food. It is medium priced, not too expensive, but definitely not ultra cheap. Well worth the quality though. The deserts are excellent too. They sell loves of several kinds of bread. I have... More

We went for lunch and ordered sandwiches. They were nothing special. Chicken salad was absolutely flavorless. Our side salads were not fresh. Quiches tend to be reliable, and baking goods are fresh.

This bakery restaurant is always a treat, but if you are planning to have breakfast it's best to visit on a weekday and avoid the Saturday rush. While the weather is mild enjoy dining al fresco on the patio. The beautiful pastries and desserts are almost irresistible, but you also can find healthy entries like vegetable scrambles and egg white... More

Self-served and daily choices are different but in general a great place to stop for coffee and a croissant or a cinnamon roll; I stop here once in a while and I love their choices. There is a downtown branch which is smaller and with different schedule but I never been there. T

The pastries made here are the best I have eaten outside of France. The croissants and the pecan rolls are to die for. They make great chicken salad sandwiches and salads for lunch. A great place to go for lunch or breakfast.

Really good French bakery, including for items like fresh bread and macaroons. My husband is a big fan of the pastries, particularly the strawberry and rhubarb ones. I've usually come on Saturday mornings and it's packed full of people, but on a Tuesday morning they still had the great selection of items without the large crowd. I'd highly recommend this...
