We re-visited Hessen Haus on our way home during a recent trip to Rochester, MN. Once again, the food & brew selections were superb. My wife had the Mac 'N Cheese Spaetzle, which is made with multiple varieties of cheese, & it is THE BEST mac & cheese anywhere. I tried the Schweinshaxe, which is a large pork shoulder, well-prepared,... More

I was recently at Hessen Haus for a post-retirement party gathering. The beer was great as were the appetizers - I tried a little bit of everything!

The atmosphere was not your typical German restaurant. It was more of a beer hall. They German & American options. The schnitzel and kassler rippchen were very good. The pickled cabbage was tangy and excellent. The service was very quick.

So, service was relaxed and a bit too casual (slow) at times. Atmosphere - definitely a bar/beer hall. Food: The appetized I had was Rouladen, and I didn't notice on the menu it was "fried". Never saw that when I was in Germany and it didn't taste good to me. Then, I got the wiener schnitzel and the breading was... More

This Place rocks. If you are in the mood for huge German style beer list (and some locals), and also some Schnitzel, this is the place. Had the Grinder sticks appetizer. It was like an egg roll but stuffed with sausage then had the pork shank. So delicious!

Have had lunch here a couple of times. Beer selection is unbelievable - we counted over 50 choices on draft - most are German or at least European in origin. A lot of other choices by the bottle. One criticism - most restaurants in Germany will place a basket of breads or pretzels on the table - here, bread comes... More

I have been here many times. Each time I was the downtown area for a parade or a concert. I love the German food and the great beer. Each time there were lots of drunk people there so I would not recommend it as a place to take children. The food was good. The service was good. I had fun... More

Our family had each of the schnitzel's and shared them. All were delicious with their individual sauces. My favorite was the Black Forest. The sauerkraut balls were a great start too! Definitely a must if your in the area!

This place is a taste of fantastic German/Central European fare and many choices of brews! Brea has been my server numerous times and nails fantastic service every time (thanks Brea!). Great food, great karaoke band on Sundays and delicious brews including one of my all time favorites Lambic Belgian Peach Beer-Peche! Love it here and after one visit last year... More
