The BBQ was very good. We liked the ribs and the brisket the best. The other entrees were ok. The red beans and rice and the cornbread were good sides. We had to wait a long time for our food. The drinks were served promptly but then things went downhill. We were early but the restaurant was crowded. We were... More

This is one of our go to places when friends come to visit. I was treated to a Mother's Day meal and throughly enjoyed my meal as did my dining companions. Knowing the portion sizes I skipped the delicious starters and opted for the Brisket with sides of sautéed veggies and the potato of the day. The brisket was moist... More

This is the best Brisket I have eaten anywhere in the world. It has the perfect taste and melts in your mouth. My mouth is watering just writing about it. The sides are also awesome. You have to have the cornbread with the meal.

Flying Mango is one of the hidden gems in west des moines. Tucked away in some residential areas not located near other night spots....you should make a soecial trip for dinner. Drop ins are welcome but reservations are almost required to avoid a long wait. I tried the 3 meat samoler and the brisket was the best i have had... More

Went there because of the great Tripadvisor reviews and boy I'm glad we did! Better than any place we tried downtown, it was packed on a Fiday night. We had a delicious and strong cocktail while waiting in the waiting area where we could watch the happy and talented chefs. First time I didn't mind waiting cause the atmosphere was... More

You can tell right away that the owner really cares about this business - he is constantly checking on customers, joking with them and just chatting with them. This is wonderful and precisely the reason we like to support locally-owned restaurants. The place it not very big and a little tight but that really leads to a wonderful atmosphere -... More

We took our daughter here for a a dual birthday dinner. She's not big on BBQ, but wanted to try it. Ribs and brisket and pork and fish! Oh my! Everything was wonderful! The ribs are not sauced. Who needs sauce when they are perfect as served!?! Go with the red beans and rice as one of your sides. Sausage... More

We had yet to try the Flying Mango and I wish we hadn't put it off for so long. We loved their food and exceptional service from Lynne. I phoned ahead for reservations and had no problem. They either do reservations of just a phone ahead service too. The wife had the fish special and I had the alandini sandwich.... More

I had a great foodie experience when went to Flying Mango ! I took my wife and daughter with her husband. The Brisket was really delicious ! All the sides were great, the beans and salad greens are seasoned like no one else in Des Moines. The rest of my family had ribs, Cajun Catfish and the Big Chop.... had... More

This is a marvelous place to savor barbecue that people from the East Coast are surprised to find in Des Moines. You owe it to yourself to get to know Mike and his staff
