to have a great, traditional New York pizza, you need to have a coal-fired brick oven. other ovens can’t produce the extreme heat (850°) & impart the crust with the right amount of crispiness & smokiness that a coal brick oven can. we use fresh mozzarella imported from New York’s little Italy, imported Italian tomatoes in our sauce, & specialty flour to produce a pizza that has a smoky thin crust & the richest robust flavors. for an authentic New York style, charred-crust pizza, ask for your pizza to be cooked “well-done”.
All centro pizzas are made with olive oil & garlic

We decided on Centro because we had tickets to a concert. The wait staff made a point of asking, at the outset, if it was a special evening so we said yes. She was so accommodating and ensured that everything was to our liking and...More
Last night we had dinner at Centro. My steak salad was fine but my husband sent back his entree which was a ravioli dish that was swimming in oil. The waitress was very accommodating. This was the first time we ever did this. Along with...More

In the heart of a re-emerging Downtown Des Moines in a classic old theatre building is the incredible Centro. Massive amounts of food that Mama could have cooked. Delectable pastas, moist chicken, delicious fish. Something for everybody.
We were visiting Des Moines for the weekend. Our hotel recommended several restaurants, but the first one we tried takes reservations only on the weekends so they suggested Centro. We were seated promptly at a banquette table for 2. Very comfy. Our server was terrific....More
We've eaten here before, and on our recent visit we thought the food was not as good as it used to be. Wait staff was friendly and very accommodating. There are numerous new and exciting restaurants in the city center, and they are giving Centro...More
Centro is wonderful in all ways! The food is excellent, service attentive and atmosphere delightful.
The Mama Meatballs are very large portion, and can be shared. The brussel sprouts are also a share plate and cooked with flavor and firmness.

That is a good point. Parking is an important issue once you arrive. However, when a restaurant is in a area of downtown where it is mostly street parking, or valet at certain places, it is an afterthought and not a concern of the overall review of the restaurant. It would be helpful for the restaurants to add parking information to their websites & TripAdvisor listings.
