to have a great, traditional New York pizza, you need to have a coal-fired brick oven. other ovens can’t produce the extreme heat (850°) & impart the crust with the right amount of crispiness & smokiness that a coal brick oven can. we use fresh mozzarella imported from New York’s little Italy, imported Italian tomatoes in our sauce, & specialty flour to produce a pizza that has a smoky thin crust & the richest robust flavors. for an authentic New York style, charred-crust pizza, ask for your pizza to be cooked “well-done”.
All centro pizzas are made with olive oil & garlic

Our waiter let us know that we were ordering too much. He was right. The portions were large. Everything was excellent. I especially liked the gnocchi. Great service and great food, what more could you ask for.
I tried this restaurant as it came highly recommended by people who always dine there when they visit the area and I was amazed at how delicious Italian cuisine they prepare. I love the ambiance, the service and everything I tried from the appetizers to...More

Had dinner Saturday night and had an amazing experience! Sat at the bar while we waited for our table on the patio on a gorgeous night, and had such a great time with our bartender Amber that we gave up our table. She recommended and...More
Made two trips to Centro. One was to stay and one to go. On the stay, we had mussels as an appetizer and they were delicious, so surprising in Des Moines. Frankly the main courses were not memorable, but the bill really was! $50/person. So,...More
Noisy nice lively place but number 2 of best restaurants??? Not for us unfortunately. The Caesar salad was good but the pastas were nothing special. Wines not bad but very little for the prices they charge.
We stopped in for dinner service and were able to be seated right away. The atmosphere and staff were nice. We had a little problem getting my food correct. It was ordered with no onions and had to be sent back a couple times to...More
We stopped in for a quick bite on a Friday night with no reservation. That wasn’t a problem since there was plenty of seating in the bar with the same menu which worked great for us. My husband and I shared a pizza and a...More
I went here on my last night in town. It was walkable to my hotel, or I could have taken a shuttle. The food was so delicious. Service was excellent. It’s a bit on pricey side, but the atmosphere and food was well worth it.
Excellent service. Group of seven friends having lunch before going to the Temple Theater. Several of us came early and met at the bar and were very happy that they let us be seated early. Everyone said their food was good — salmon was delicious....More

That is a good point. Parking is an important issue once you arrive. However, when a restaurant is in a area of downtown where it is mostly street parking, or valet at certain places, it is an afterthought and not a concern of the overall review of the restaurant. It would be helpful for the restaurants to add parking information to their websites & TripAdvisor listings.
