Also very expensive. Everyone should treat themselves to this kind of place once every few years!! Amazing food cooked to perfection. Would have given 5 stars if it wasnt so expensive.

801 Chop House is for special occasions, as it is too expensive to go very often. It is really, really, really good though! The food is among the best in Des Moines.

This was our 4th time at 801 chophouse and they didn't disappoint! Excellent food and service. The scallops were fantastic as was the state fair sundae. The only downside is the price. Worth the trip anyway.

The Chophouse is a great dining experience all the way around. Of course the steaks are outstanding but they offer a great menu from appetizers and salads to some outstanding deserts and side dishes. The service is always exceptional and when compared with comparable restaurants across the country (there really are not but one or two comparable places in Des... More

Went here to celebrate an anniversary and was greatly disappointed. I thought the food was slow in coming out. Service was less than desirable and prices are astronomical (which we were aware of ahead of time) for what I think you get in terms of value for a meal. 801 cut Prime Rib (which I was recommended by co-workers) was... I have no complaints about the food or service, but it is so high priced that unless money is no issue for you, it is hard to fully enjoy. I AM glad we went....once, but I would not hurry back because I can enjoy a great meal out elsewhere for less than half the cost.

The first time I went to Des Moines on business I ate here because I knew a steak would be good in the midwest. I wasn't wrong. Solid steakhouse. Everything is very good, very nice place, nice bar. However, it is REALLY expensive.

Ordered scallop entrée.......but the appetizer scallops tasted better. Steaks delicious! Asparagus and baked loaded potato delicious! Ordered Grand Marnier soufflé for dessert and the three of us complained about them. They were very gooey and thick pudding like, did not like the texture nor the taste. Manager said they were trying some changes to the soufflé's. She did deduct from... More

Food is above average to very good. Prices are on the high side. Typical steakhouse. Lots of dark wood, good bar.
