I won't rehash what several previous reviewers posted, I'll just share that I very much enjoyed my visit to Hoq. Friendly staff, excellent made-fresh food, rotating menu. I had the cream of asparagus soup, grass fed hangar steak, and rhubarb crisp. Absolutely delicious! I will be coming here again.

The two people in my party couldn't have had more diverse tastes, yet Hoq "nailed it" for both of us. The farm-to-table focus and commitment is evident in every dish, from first course to dessert. Our server, who was amazingly only in her second day on the job, was exceptionally well trained and -- since it was a business dinner... More

Okay, this was my first trip to Des Moines, Iowa, which by the way might be pronounced more French than Des Plaines, Illinois, but is not at all French. Neither is Hoq. Let me just say that the locally-sourced, grass-fed, flax seed finished flat iron beef was incredible! My definition of the holy trinity is ingredients, technique and equipment. This... More

This farm to table locally sourced restaurant is a gem. We just googled Vegan and this popped up on the internet. We decided after looking at the menu we would give it a try. We had a lovely table right below a local photographer's work. All of the local artwork was lovely and affordable. We began with the Swiss style... More

We were the only guests there, yet they managed to get our order wrong resulting in a wait that was twice as long as expected. In the meantime, we watched as the kitchen staff banged mops, other cleaning gear while preparing our food. I actually felt sorry by the time we left for the young man who took our order... More

Food is awesome. Outside the place says Local Food...Global flavor...agreed on global favor...perfect. Decor is clean, crisp, urban. Great spot.

Situated on the quiet end of the east village, Hoq is one of the gem of Des Moines' restaurant scene. The minimalist decor includes minimal tables, which give you plenty space between tables, guaranteeing a quiet evening. Farm to table? Farmer to table. My server was one of the farmers who supplied the restaurant and was very knowledgeable not only... More

We dined at Hoq five times in recent months while on a succession of business trips. Without exception we were served dishes I'd compare to any I back home in Los Angeles
