This continues to be our favorite after-church-Sunday-noon-meal restaurant. The place is always neat and clean, as are the employees, the service friendly in Spanish or English, the food superb and the prices quite reasonable.

I was attending a meeting in Council Bluffs with a Mexican food junky. We had heard that Mexican food in Iowa was pretty bland. We went to La Mesa the first night and were pleasantly surprised. In fact we were so happy with the first...meal and we returned the second night too. Both meals were excellent. I selected tacos from a long list of options. You should be able to find the tacos that you desire with these options. In addition, their salsa has a little kick, just right.More

A good start is a good Margarita. They have plenty to choose from and I recommend the Hurricane Margarita. Plenty of ways to figure an Entree, for dinner anyways.

While negative reviews say it is not spicy or authentic and not to expect more from Iowa Mexican food..they couldn’t be further...it is not as good as my favorite in southern New Mexico but it is still an excellent place to eat..I asked for the...spicy salsa...and it was...I had Chile verde and it was good...chimichanga with white sauce was unique but good..decor is Mexican and clean..service excellent and some speak Spanish...I.e. seems a good dependable choiceMore

Great food. Beautiful art on tables and chairs. The prices are fair and you get a lot of food. If you are in the area definitely will recommend to stop by.

My wife and I had a late supper here based on TripAdvisor reviews.... And it met our high expectations. Many gluten free options for my wife, chips/salsa/queso were solid, and my margarita and fajitas were excellent. Very fairly priced, would recommend to anyone

We visit La Mesa quite frequently. We had the chimichanga and the molcajete on our most recent visit (I also really like the De La Mesa Salad with shrimp). Both were excellent. The service was fast and friendly. The restaurant is also nicely decorated.

Traveling north on I-29 we stopped in Council Bluffs and found a delightful Mexican restaurant. The outside wasn't impressive, but once inside we found the place unique, attractive, and charming. There was a very spacious interior with artwork on all the chairs, tables and booths,...let alone the walls. The service was good and the food seemed freshly made and tasty. There is a tendency for Mexican restaurants to serve salty food, and this restaurant did not do so. Enjoyable service, food and atmosphere.More
