The best Egg Drop Soup. I have ever tasted, outside the Orient.... I was a regular customer until the Quarantine forced them to close. I missed their friendly homestyle sevice. And I regularly treat my friends to their delicious Egg Drop Soup. A large order...is only $4.00. This makes for an economical lunch option. In a world of fast food. I am greeted like family by the staff. And they are aware of my love of their soup. I often visit just to order this delicacy.More

Ah, the good old days! I can remember when sweet and sour chicken at a Chinese restaurant came with bits of pineapple and chunks of vegetables (onions, pepper, carrots). That may still happen in places, but NOT at the China Inn. My lunch special was...very basic. This restaurant is eat-in or take-out. I was the only person eating at Noon. With the entree you get either a can of soda or a spring roll. I foolishly chose the roll which was thumb-sized and couldn't compare in taste to those made my my Chinese friend in her kitchen. The fried rice seemed old and lacking in taste. And this was my first time ever when I didn't even get the perk of a fortune cookie. I strongly disagree with the reviewer who said China Inn provides the "best chinese in town". My meal was mediocre.More

I am surprised that the other review seem to cover extremes of good and bad, when the truth is that this an average Chinese restaurant often found around the country. Egg roll was crisp and slightly better than average. Kung Pau Chicken was not as...spicy as it should be and had a kind of generalized sauce. Chicken chunks on the dry side.More

My most recent visit was terrible. I made an order for pick up. The food was plenty hot, however the taste was horrible! The food tasted as if it had been cooked in old grease or had been warmed up. I won't go again.

China Inn is always our first choice for Chinese in Cedar Rapids! Every single time it's hot, fast, and delicious with lots of choices on the menu! Not to mention, reasonably priced! Both their 1st Ave. and 16th Ave. locations consistently provide the same amazing...service and food! They also deliver. The owners recognize me whether I call in an order to go or just stop by, and they remember my kids favs and my favs! I've been going to eat at China Inn since they opened, about 7 years ago, and have never had a bad experience. In case you couldn't tell, I love China Inn, and I highly recommend it! Enjoy!More

Food was cold and got diarhea after eating. It did not appear that the quantity of food was good in proportion for the price. The inside of restaurant was not visibly clean and was uncomfrtable to dine in.

We had the lunch special today, that is, one of about 30 choices. I had the sweet and sour chicken, my friend had Mongolian beef. Both dishes were tasty, and very affordable,....drink and meal for $5.50. We added crab rangoons, they were miniatures, not the...full fledged rangoon to which I was accustomed. But not bad. Service was quick and direct. The atmosphere was clean and quiet and simply a quickly pleasant place to be.More

I found China Inn by accident several years ago and I'm so glad I did. Their food isn't bland like most american Chinese places. If you want spicy Chinese/szechuan food then this is the place to go. They have the best hot & sour soup,...their egg rolls are great, and all the dishes I've had were excellent. My favorites include General Tso's Chicken, Szechuan Chicken, and House Special Beef. If you can overlook the atmosphere you're in for a treat. They do also deliver if you prefer not to dine in or carryout. The owners now recognize me when I come in and are always very warm and welcoming. In particular their new restaurant (also called China Inn) on the SW side (3200 16th Ave SW) has a nice atmosphere and is a little less busy, but has the same great food and service. I highly recommend this restaurant.More

We moved to town 8 years ago and tried all the recommended places. Not until visiting China Inn were we happy with the choices. Even though we live in the far north part of town, this is the only place we will go for Chinese....The hot and sour soup has a great kick and the meats are always nice and tender. The meal that we’ve found to be the best value is the dinner for two. I count on taking a large portion of my half to work for lunch the next day. If you get the chance to visit when the phone calls for take-out orders aren’t pouring in, you should take the opportunity to have surprisingly meaningful conversation with the employees. When you’re on the SW side of town visit their new second location for a more traditional environment with the same great food and service.More

The food is so greasy. Their fried rice should be called "petrified rice." Seriously, I feared cracking my teeth it is so hard...consistently! We just gave up on them.
