Our group of 29 recently had a special event lunch in the State Dining Room. The food was amazing and Ella and Kevin did a great job serving the different courses promptly, professionally, and with courtesy. Kevin also gave us a history lesson about Tippecanoe....Thanks to Ella and Kevin for providing a wonderful dining experience!More

Once again our daughter-in-law surprised us with her thorough planning expertise. Highly recommend making a reservation for this amazing restaurant; ours was for 11 am on a Saturday. Parking is plentiful and there are handicap spots. I did not see a handicap ramp. The building...was the home of the Studebaker family; it is now privately owned and operated as a restaurant and event venue. Give yourself plenty of time to wander the four floors available to the public. Feast your eyes on the lush 1800s woodwork and furnishings. Allow your imagination to wander back to the glamorous life of the Studebakers. We had our meal in the pub area on the second floor. Our waitress was very gracious, friendly and attentive. Prices are a bit cashy but the servings are plentiful . I had a delicious Mac and cheese dish. Our bill for four adults with tip and adult beverages was about $200.More

A quick 45 minute drive from Chesterton and you step into another time. Built 140 years ago dinner is worth the price of admission. Great service and wonderful dinners.

I was excited to attend a wedding shower at the famed Studebaker Mansion at Tippecanoe Place in South Bend. We drove up from Indianapolis to attend. The service was appalling. 20 guests selected their own meal & it took forever for everyone to get served....Some received their meals & were finished before others at their table were even served. There was no communication about when or if we were going to get our meals. My meal, one of the near last to be set was not even hot when I got it (chicken marsala). I couldn’t eat the chicken & I was ill shortly after eating it. The vegetables were good & so was the bread. Mashed potatoes were just weird & lumpy. The server we had was rude & couldn’t bother herself to walk around our table to refill tea for us when there was plenty of room. Her eyelashes looked ridiculous I might add. Anyway I was ver disappointed.More

The worst service that I’ve encountered in my life. I have eaten at this restaurant before, but today’s experience should be a caution for anyone who is even considering going to eat at this restaurant. They got my order wrong twice. On the second time...the waiter said, “what do you want me to do about it.” When I asked for the manager, he took 10 minutes and then came out and slammed my bill on the table and said nothing. When I said to him, “Are you going to ask what the problem was” the manager said “No I took your charge off the bill.” When I asked to speak to the owner, he said he would talk to the two employees, but never even offered an apology. Avoid at all cost!More

We were in town for a family wedding and got together with 11 relatives. This place was the former home of Clement Studebaker and the inside is spectacular. We all thoroughly enjoyed our food and the service was excellent. Kelly , our server, told us...about the history of the house and also some very interesting stories and events. Will definitely go back next time we are in South BendMore

The restaurant offers a great experience from driving up the driveway, walking the mansion, great appetizers, excellent service and food as well as local beer. The prime rib was outstanding. Definitely worth going to this restaurant when in South Bend.

This is what fine dining is all about. Dinner at the Tippecanoe Place Restaurant in a lavishly appointed 19th century manor built by Clem Studebaker from 1886 to 1889. Located at 620 West Washington Street in South Bend, Indiana, near the Studebaker National Museum, it...is regarded among the top 10 wedding venues in the United States, a five-star restaurant that offers traditional American dining and a Sunday brunch buffet, a stylish venue that reeks with ambiance and classy atmosphere. Call it posh. Open from 4 to 9 on Wednesday and Thursday, from noon to 10 on Friday and Saturday and 10 to 8 on Sunday, guests are urged to order the house specialty, prime rib, a traditional 12-ounce hand cut, slow roasted with creamy horseradish sauce and au jus with home potatoes and creamed spinach. While I indulged in the prime rib, my wife was delighted with her eight-ounce filet, a Stockyards Angus Beef with veal demi glace and crispy onions, home potatoes and green beans. Did I forget? We started with tenderloin tips served in a mushroom demi glace with onions and pita bread, a classic shrimp cocktail with house-made cocktail sauce and Caesar salad with romaine lettuce tossed with classic Caesar dressing, shredded parmesan and garlic croutons. For dessert, we shared a classic dish of creme brulee and the house's popular Tippecanoe Hazelnut Mousse. Clem Studebaker never had it so good.More

Bloody Mary’s should come with green olives. Seriously. Why wouldn’t it. Plus staff need a dress code. It is a nice bar but it needs a few tweaks to make it better.

My wife & I were staying at a nearby B&B, and chose to try Tippecanoe Place's Stubebaker Brewing Company lounge upstairs for a light evening meal. Exterior signage to access the lounge was confusing, but we finally found a front desk attendant who kindly pointed...us to the proper stairway. The lounge surroundings are attractive with lots of carved wood, and they have at least one adjacent private dining area in addition to the main bar & high-top table seating. Unfortunately our waitress was the only server on duty for a Friday (the bartender helping with table service when it became clear she was overwhelmed), and the food was no better than average fare (a mac & cheese dish with an almost overpowering beer cheese sauce, a Caesar salad with an overload of dressing, unremarkable French onion soup which was delivered just when we were ready to cancel it & pay our check). The beer & liquor drinkers around the bar seemed far more pleased than the diners, so I'd recommend SBC for drinks only with other plans for your meal.More

We recently had our company's Christmas party here and everything was fabulous! From the very beginning working with Jasmine who is the Director of Events was a delight. She clearly knows her stuff! She professionally guided me in the planning and food selection. Communication was...awesome. She answered my every question quickly and politely. She was so easy to work with. The room was perfect for our group size. The food was absolutely delicious. The staff, Kelly and Sheneka, were top notch. They were friendly and professional. I got great feedback from our employees. Everyone had a great time. Thank you!!More

A group of 5 of us ate in the dining room and were very happy with the service, and the food was quite good. I would say the restaurant is in need of major renovations, and there were annoying flies throughout the dinner. Tippcanoe itself...is an amazing building and we enjoyed looking through the various floors and rooms after dinner. I would recommend it to anyone visiting South Bend.More

Let's start of with the good. The grounds and exterior are amazing. The staff friendly and always had a smile. The minute you walk in you can sense the potential this place has and if you have come here say ten, or twenty years ago...you would say wow this used to be..... The place needs a refresh. Server great but the wait, we ordered prime rib it was ok, it took over an hour to get it to the table. The server kept apologizing for the slowness of the kitchen. The soup and salad took a good twenty minutes to get to us and they both were just mediocre. Don't get me wrong I don't want to be rushed at a nice restaurant but this was just way to much. Play a little soft music or maybe put a little flower vase on the table. If you go just get a burger and enjoy the surroundings. Spent a few dollars and get this place back to how it used to be.More
