While visiting the area, my wife and I stopped to the Blue Gate for their smorgasbord dinner. To be honest, we were both quite disappointed. The salad and soup bar was fine, however, we found the entrees and sides to be either bland-tasting, or too salty. Based on all the reviews we had read, we had really thought we were... More

Beautiful Restaurant! Excellent Food! No waiting on a Saturday. They serve plenty of food on the six entrees served at our table.

I take all my east bound groups to Shipshewana. It is a favorite among my traveling family. Delicious foods, pleasant, cheerful employees. Great shopping.

The experience is all together extraordinary. Great service and great food. The restaurant is very well kept. The bread and peanut butter is phenomenal and at the end of your meal you can visit the different stores within the restaurant. We have always say down and have not tried the buffet. The chicken is great. Meatloaf as well. Can't wait... More

We arrived at 6:30pm and the place was still busy. I would recommend ordering the family meal even if there are only 2 of you. It is part of the pkg that is offered if you stay at the Blue gate Inn. Don't sit in the booth, the seating is terrible and the table is far away. Ask to be... More

Many people like to travel - especially retired Senior Citizens. ELF is the key to a successful trip - E ntertainment, L odging F ood. Our recent travel to Shipshewana included all three. Entertainment (a play at the Blue Gate Threatre), Lodging (a really nice room at the Blue Gate Garden Inn and Food ( a voucher for an all... More

We tried both on separate days. In both cases the service was great. We were seated within 10 minutes and greeted by friendly wait staff. Buffet had lots of selections. Salad bar was fresh. The staff kept all hot items well stocked and the serving areas clean. We noticed that the vegetables on the buffet seemed more cafeteria style (canned)... More

Waited an hour and a half for cold food, soggy chicken, and crummy service. We told the manager and she even checked the food temps and agreed that it was cold. They brought new food out and it was still less than stellar. Offered nothing as far as comps except an upgraded pie that your normally pay extra for and... More

When the newly built Blue Gate Restaurant & Bakery opened it doors on August 4th, 2001 in Shipshewana, the entire town was invited over for dinner. As one of Indiana's largest restaurants, the Blue Gate comfortably seats 600 (more than the town's population). Built to reflect the surrounding community, the Blue Gate resembles a rambling white farmhouse, similar to those that dot the surrounding Amish coutnryside. An award winning restaurant serving a world famous Family-style meal that features pressure fried chicken and 3 other meats, real mashed potatoes, Amish noodles, plus lots of other sides and 25 varieties of pies to choose from
