We came to Tivat for a day out and to explore, without planning where we would be lunching. As we were staying in Kotor we travelled by bus, which dropped us at the bus stop which is a good mile from the centre of Tivat. We didn't have mobile data so "followed our noses" and walked down a side street, which brought us to a marina. We saw two restaurants and Mala Barka was one of them. We loved the kerb appeal, as it's really pretty - decked out in blue and white!
We ordered a bottle of Chardonnay and two plates of grilled squid. These arrived accompanied by potatoes with Swiss Chard, a local speciality. This was delicious and just right for someone wanting a light lunch.
They also serve Italian dishes and dishes suitable for young children.
Not the cheapest place to eat in Tivat, but you do get what you pay for a good food and perfect service!

Little gem!
Preferred restaurant in Tivat (only one that we visited twice!)
Lovely little terrace restaurant on the small fishing port..
Had a mixture of appetizers as recommended by the waiter. , truffled prawns, octopus salad & fish carpaccio.. delicious! followed by black cuttlefish risotto... waiter recommended wine.. was perfect!
Went back a second time..
Guacamole with shrimp. Small criticism.. guacamole was made with red bell peppers not jalapeños 😬.. taste peppers too strong.. otherwise rest of meal perfect. Seabass for myself and seafood tagliatelle my partner..
Service was great.. Wine glasses always topped up, price & setting.. clean toilets etc..

We were recommended this restaurant by our hotel receptionist so decided to visit. We sat outside in the warm evening and were given the menus. This was only our second day in Tivat and the meal we had on our first night was cheap so we didn’t expect such high prices here. The cheapest bottle of wine was €28, we bought one and to be fair it was high quality and delicious. We also enjoyed our food which too was high quality and delicious. There was a musician playing country music who was very good and helped make the evening special. If you’re prepared to pay the prices you do get a very good meal experience.

The restaurant is clean and off the beaten path and felt authentic. However there was a singer in the courtyard who was a little loud and made it difficult to hear so we had to sit “inside” which was open air and hotter due to lack of breeze. The main complaint I have is that we presented 2 different credit cards to the waiter and he insisted we needed a PIN. Then we presented an ATM card, and the PIN didn’t work so we were forced to pay cash. It felt a little shady. This is a Konoba so you should order the fish which was delicious while the rest of the dishes we ordered were blah but typical for the area. In addition, the waiter attempted to talk me into choosing a fish with cloudy eyes, so be careful to select a fresh fish. Overall not bad food (better than some of the other more highly ranked restaurants on Trip advisor) but I will not return.

We ate in this lovely restaurant with live music accompanying our dinner. As my husband has some allergies he showed the waiter, who spoke very good English, and we were made a suggestion for a shared starter and shared dinner. It was all very well presented and very tasty. I had baklava for dessert, which was also good: not too heavy and not too sweet. We had Serbian wine by the glass, also recommended and tasty. I assume in summertime they have a terrace with good views on a small marina. Definitely a place to spend a nice evening.

A lovely vibe with live music from a talented gentleman on the guitar and soft vocals that captured a romantic twist to the night. A candle was lit for our table and no reservation was required . We were given drinks adeptly and allowed to browse the menu for local fish . We decided on Sea bass and ratatouille. The food was out within 20 minutes and didn’t disappoint.
Also a great selection of wines and juices.

We had a late lunch at Mala Barka and it was faultless.
We shared a red snapper (pagar) accompanied by potatoes and blitva and it was abolutely delicious. There was a simple garlic and oil sauce to go with the fish and it was all that was needed.
Our waiter was helpful and pleasant. He ensured that we were able to
have a delicious meal in the short time that was available to us before our flight home from Tivat airport
If we come back to TIvat a meal at Mala Barka will be a priority.

Perfect for lunch or dinner! We were just in time to try the mussels (recommenced with white wine). The black risotto was also very good. Incredibly friendly stuff too! Overall a wonderful experience and would recommend to anyone around:)

Ate there once recently and almost immediately knew i would not visit again. The food is very overpriced, even for a seafood place. The staff ignored us until we came into the restaurant looking for them and told them we are ready to order, and when service was given it was with a sour attitude. The food itself is ok, but not worth the price paid.

Nothing changed since my last visit. Good location, best service, delicious properly cooked food. If you plan to eat seafood in Tivat, don't miss Mala Barka.

Great fish restaurant in Tivat. Absolutely top quality fish, very fresh and tasting. Incredible fish tartare and carpaccio. Great wine. And all this with reasonable price and good service. Bravo! Highly recommended.

Fantastic food and really excellent service. I can’t recommend this place enough if you like seafood. This was our first date night since the pandemic began and we had a beautiful night. Thanks again.

It was definitely a very bad experience. The bald waiter is very rude and speaks to all customers in a derogatory manner. He doesn't speak English anyway, he shamelessly tries to give contradictory answers using 80% his own language and 20% English. The service is poor. There is no parking or valet. It can be a stopping point for anyone who wants to have a bad experience during their holiday.

I can easily say that Mala Barka is at top of the seafood restaurants in Montenegro. White fish carpaccio, shrimp tartare.. everything is just super tasty! I come back to this restaurant every year and quality of food is always at the highest level! I would strongly recommend!
