Since it was winter, we were able to walk right in without a reservation, but apparently it is very difficult to do that. I can see why! We just had appetizer 'yellow' at this place which had quail meat and quail eggs in a curry...More

This restaurant is almost a 5. The building is stunning, the service proud, the menu well-considered. The starters were a hit with subtle, surprising flavour combinations that worked well. We loved that so much of the menu is sourced from and inspired by the Babylonstoren...More

There is a waiting list for Babel! SO make sure you book well ahead of time. The gardens are gorgeous, the food scrumptious and the service excellent. Proudly South African experience.

Quite a trip out of Cape Town, but so worth it. You must start with a languorous wander through the gardens, then slow down and enjoy the meal. I was surprised by the quantity, and did not need to eat for a day afterwards! The...More

We love going to Babel, made a little easier since the relatively recent introduction of an online booking system. Food is always incredibly fresh and seasonal, and bursting with color and flavor. Starter salads are like art, and main courses are always delicious. Baby chicken...More

The owners have spared no expense in creating a wonderful garden that grows everything from artichokes to zucchini. It is enormous and a stroll around is strongly recommended. The food, despite being fresh from the garden, lets things down- it is perfectly edible, but not...More

Description
Housed in an old cow shed, Babel is a wonderful mix of Cape Dutch architecture with contemporary glass walls that makes for a simple yet edgy environment in which to try our tasty yet often unconventional combinations. We have a farm-to-fork philosophy, which means we like to serve food that is seasonal and that reflects our "pick, clean and serve" approach. Because our menu is guided by what is available in the garden, our food always reflects the season, and so in summer we may serve you a yellow salad of pineapple, gooseberries, granadillas, yellow tomatoes and apricots while in winter a slow-cooked leg of lamb in red wine is more likely. Dessert subscribes to four flavours, namely salty, bitter, sweet and sour. And while our meals are creative, we don't like to tamper unduly with our food. Our meals are always clear in structure, so that fruit and vegetables gathered daily from the garden is often served with its skin on. Helpings are generous and depending on the weather you can take your meal in the glass-enclosed restaurant or under the plane trees in the courtyard.
