Was leary of going to a German restaurant, but the reviews were spot on. Good beer, delicious food with huge portions, great salad bar, and you must try the German Chocolate Pie. I am not a big chocolate person, but this was yummy. Service was...awesome! Reasonable prices for the big portions we got.More

First time visiting this place and it was an enjoyable experience. Place was very quiet on a weeknight. Excellent salad bar with 2 types of soup and many salad offerings. Both of us enjoyed our dinners and the servers were very attentive. Hope to visit...again when in the area. Prices were reasonable too.More

We visited for dinner in August with a party of nine. The restaurant was moderately busy but we only had to wait long enough for the staff to set a table up. Everybody ordered something different so we experienced a good cross-section of their menu....Everything was very good. The service was also very good. Strongly recommend.More

The Schnitzelbank is a Jasper institution. The food and service were excellent. We spent the weekend in French Lick and made a special trip to Jasper to eat at the Schnitzelbank. It was worth the trip! The atmosphere is festive.More

We visited for the first time during Covid, but the staff was very friendly and the food was good. There is a waitress at the salad bar to prepare your plate as you go through the line, but I was just happy the salad bar...was available. I had the kraut and sausage appetizer and it was very good. We would definitely go back again.More

While my husband enjoyed his pork shank and said it was the best ever, I was hugely disappointed in my $25.00 Wiener schnitzel. The meat was tough and strong and it tasted like it could have been frozen and thrown in a deep fryer. The...vegetables were mushy and obviously prepared from a frozen state. The spitzale was bland. I feel totally ripped off! My husband and I are in town to do some scouting for a family reunion for 50 plus people and I will tell my family to definitely not eat here.More

Tammy767, my first question is did you tell anyone? Did the server ask how everything was and did you respond? I hate this. But if you do not say anything it is hard to fix it. We are not perfect although we like to think...More

We visited the "Schnitz" during COVID-19 times so it's hard to tell how much that has impacted atmosphere. We did NOT find the restaurant dark, but I think there was a dining area without windows. I had the Bockwurst, which was very good and not...overwhelming. Some plates looked like Sunday dinner for a family - almost overwhelming amount of food. We also tried the reuben rollups (recommend) and the kraut ball (meh) appetizers. The horseradish mustard is a must. We would have bought gallons but refrigeration was an issue as we were traveling. Service was reasonable, tables spaced apart. We will go back, hopefully post COVID.More

For decades when visiting jasper I have wanted to go to the Schnitz. This time we made it a point to go. It’s very dark inside. We were sat in the bar. Like a time warp. We had a waitress who was not very attentive...or informative. My dream of eating here was slowly disintegrating. We were told of no bar specials but later heard bartender sharing specials with her customers. Ordered the sampler platter. Thought a good way to start. Egg rolls were dried up on inside. Krautballs were just strange. And we like kraut. The variety brats were tasty. The potato patties were almost burnt. More like a potato crouton. The soft pretzel was very good. But for $25 this was a bust. Needless to say we paid and called it a learning experience. Hard to say if I would ever go back. I hear the salad bar is good and the brat on pretzel sandwich is good. Just really thought a sampler platter would be a way to truly show what a place is about. And I do think service is a key part of a dining experience and we did not have that either. So I wanted this to be awesome but it just wasn’t.More

We were there last night. First time out in restaurant since March 1 so did know what to expect, but we came to town to see family. Food was really good and service was great. Special was bbq pork chops which was excellent (husband and...family ordered it). I ordered a brat on a pretzel bun with German potato salad which also soooooo good. Would certainly recommend this restaurant to people going through Jasper. Also, this is the cleanest town I believe I have driven through - from beginning to endMore

We were staying in town for a few days. At a previous stop in Vincennes, someone told us this was a "can't miss" for a great meal. Luckily, it was within walking distance of our hotel (since we had vehicle problems) so we were able...to dine here as we'd planned. We sat at the bar. There were a few customers when we first arrived; however, the entire restaurant quickly filled. The staff were excellent at taking care of all customers in a timely manner. We started with the kraut balls, which were delicious. When I ordered the sauerbraten, our bartender made sure to point out that Schnitzelbank's is a bit on the tangy side and not what some people expect. Since I'd never had it before, I told her thanks and that I still would order it. Wow. it was delicious - and such a portion! I had to get a to-go box. M. had the Beef Rolladen and ate every bite. Beers were good and we enjoyed talking with our bartender and other customers. We will definitely visit again when we are in town.More
