I go way back with Dim Sum and look for it wherever I go. The key is a restaurant that serves it on carts usually on weekends since then you know they are serious about authentic Dim Sum and have a Dim Sum chef since...it is a specialty. My brother, 18 year old son and I tried the Dim Sum at Lucky Lou's (which is conveniently located next to Saraga Market). We had five or six items and although one disappointed the remaining items were all really good. Prices were reasonable too. Service...was helpful but the servers don't always speak a lot of English. The dumplings are ok, but the service is the most unfriendly in all of Indianapolis. Long faces wherever you look. Also, the restaurant is really uncosy. Its thus ok or a quick stop and go, but not for a nice lunch or dinner.More

My boyfriend and I visited this restaurant for brunch. Their food is delicious, and waiters can speak both English and Chinese. Highly recommend for people who like light sweet and light salty.

On a recent visit to Indianapolis for the Christmas holiday, I was craving dim sum. I had not been here since late 2017, so my wife and I decided to come back. We came at the right time: place was full, but we were seated...right away. Service was prompt and very good. I had my usual: shiu mai, steamed BBQ pork bun, roast duck, sticky rice with Chinese sausage, sesame balls. We took some with us for my wife's son. On this visit, we were surprised to find a Caucasian high school boy who spoke fluent Chinese! He said he learned in school, and he wanted to practice. I gave Lucky Lou 3 out of 5 "stars" because among our three-person dining party, two out of three of us really liked the food, but I ended up with gastro-intestinal issues from the "Homestyle Tofu" dish that I ate. I am guessing that the...problem was slightly spoiled tofu. The dim sum is excellent, as was a chicken dish that one of us ate and a fried noodle dish that we shared. The restaurant is definitely authentic Chinese. The menu is in Chinese and English, and the video system in the room was playing Chinese music for the many diners who clearly spoke Chinese. The food really is delicious, but I recommend *not* ordering any tofu dishes.More

My husband and I went here for lunch Sunday afternoon. We are Dim Sum novices, so we weren’t sure what we were doing. But the staff was attentive and patient with us. Service was great! And the Dim Sum was delicious. We had the curry...squid, scallop bun, spring rolls and some beef wrapped in a noodle pancake. All very good. We looked at the regular menu, and it also looked great. Lucky Lou’s is perhaps the best Chinese restaurant in Indianapolis. The Dim Sum chef trained in Chicago and makes very good and authentic Dim Sum which is available every day. Nice and clean restaurant. Ordered noodles to share and it tasted ok. Pushed cart Dim sum available in the weekend. It tasted pretty good actually. Will be back if we are in the area again.
