The food was fair but somewhat pretentious. the service was just OK. I was there as a guest of a large party. Not an organizer. When I was ready to leave and asked and asked for my check I was told no that I could...not have my check and that I could not leave because the minimum had not been met yet. While I appreciate that restaurants need to set a minimum for large parties, To tell one of the guests at the party they cannot have their check or leave was beyond belief! I spoke with the manager before leaving. She was nice but patronising. Ruined for me what had been a nice evening up to that point. There are plenty of other restaurants out there that need support And I will be taking my business elsewhere I advise you to the sameMore

First off, if you're concerned about COVID, this is a good spot. While it only has indoor seating, the seating is spread very far apart, well more than 6 feet, and everyone there seems to take it seriously. Second, the food was great and the...price was reasonable (although I live in Chicago so maybe everywhere else seems cheap?). I highly, highly recommend the toast + jam, as it is raw ahi tuna on crispy bread. The scallops are also highly recommended, especially if you like spaetzle. Should I find myself in Indy again, it will be hard for me to want to eat somewhere else.More

All 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal, great food. Lots of good craft beer and other drink options as well. Atmosphere and service equally enjoyable.

This was a very nice and wonderful restaurant. The serving size was great. It had a very nice atmosphere that would suit and taste from casual to upscale. The food everyone had was delicious. They also had a very good beer selection and their drinks...were made very well. They also had a kids menu which we needed. It was truly a great meal and experienceMore

Went for dinner with friends, not our first time here for dinner. Great variety of dishes without trying to do everything. There’s a god selection of meat options, seafood, and a vegetarian option or two. I’ve had half a dozen dishes and enjoyed them all....The meatloaf definitely isn’t your mother’s but it’s delicious. The mussels are tasty and even the sautéed mushroom dish is flavorful. The menu is divided in three sections. The usual appetizers with salads then both a small plate and large plate or entree section. Frankly, the small plates are a full meal. There’s an extensive local beer menu, plenty of wine by the glass or bottle and great cocktails depending on what you like to accompany your dinner. The main dining area is wide open and can get a little loud on a full night, but it’s set up to be social with several community style tables. They do live entertainment a couple nights a week and host an open mic night, but clearly vet those that come sing as they have always been way beyond average singers and musicians. I definitely recommend U50 for a fun, tasty and lively dinner.More

The food here is great -- I just wish they gave you enough to eat. I ate there with my adult children, so we ranged in age from 24 to 69. We all had first courses and the large-size entrees. No soups or substantial first...courses were offered, only salads. The salmon and duck entrees were truly world-class. The problem is we were all left hungry, even those of us in our 60s with smaller appetites. The 20-year-olds even ordered an extra serving of seasoned French Fries and were still hungry. The fries are delicious, by the way. Also, our server was annoying, explaining everything on the menu, even things that needed no explanation or we were not interested in, and offering her opinions when we did not ask for them or want them. The wine list is surprisingly small for a gourmet restaurant, and quite expensive.More

My wife and I had a reservation before seeing Hamilton right down the street. This was easily the best meal I've ever had. The charcuterie board was a fantastic appetizer. My wife had the pork chop and it was perfectly seasoned and cooked. I had...the duck and was blown away. It was perfectly cooked as well. My mouth is watering thinking about it now.More

A full restaurant at 6:30pm- it was great! With the play Hamilton near by, every table was filled. We were still delighted with our service and our food. We had a two person table right on top of the door but didn’t seem to distract...from our evening. We shared a salad that was delivered already divided. The scallops were prepared perfectly! Service was really great even though so many were trying to hurry our waitress as they needed to leave. The whole restaurant functioned very well. I have never had a bad experience at Union 50. Still a very recommended restaurant, make your reservations!More

My wife and I recently dined at Union 50 and thought it was one of the best restaurants in Indianapolis. We were attending a concert at the Murat Theater and looked for a restaurant in close proximity to the theater. Little did we know what...gems we would behold. The restaurant is very contemporary in design with high ceilings and a very spacious dining room. There is also a large bar and seating area that is part of this room. We chose a more intimate table against the wall. The kitchen is open concept as well so you can get glints and aromas of the dishes as they come out. We started with cocktails, which were superbly made. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable of the ever changing menu and guided us to some excellent choices for salads and entries. This restaurant also specializes in all forms of pub frites with different gourmet sauces. We stuck to a more traditional meal. The salads we chose arrived promptly and were extremely fresh with home made dressings. My wife had the East Street salad with greens, fennel, feta and a blood orange vinaigrette. My salad had poached pears, beets, walnuts and blue cheese. Our waiter was constant in his care yet never obtrusive. For our entrees my wife had the tenderloin, which was cooked to perfection, with a demiglaze and blue cheese. She was delighted by the quality and excellent preparation. I had the King Salmon which was a multilayered presentation with roasted asparagus, tomato risotto, topped by roasted King Salmon, and a spicy beurre blanc with shrimp. It was out of sight. So many different textures and flavors. The wine list is extensive and there are also many fine local beer offerings. As it was my wife's birthday we shared a complementary chocolate cake with blackberry puree. The meal and the service could not be better. As it is an open room design, those seeking quieter tables should specify the need. I could not recommend this restaurant more highly.More
