Humble surroundings, but the food is wonderful and the service is like the small town diner in the movies. Happy and friendly people greet you and see you out the door again with a big smile on everyone's faces! COMFORT FOOD TO THE MAX!

Our family stopped here passing through from Illinois. I researched while planning our trip and found this gem. The staff was friendly and enforced the use of masks unless at the table eating. The restaurant was clean. We were so happy to go in and...sit down and eat lunch (everything still shut down in Illinois). We three enjoyed our meals. I had the Beef and noodles and mashed potatoes. Delicious, homemade, real quality beef! Would love to visit again someday :)More
A work friend and I had lunch here because it was decent food in the past and was the only restaurant that had dining room seating during the pandemic. The first thing that I noticed was that the counter was closed but people were crammed...in to all of the booths and we were all back to back, so much for social distancing but I wanted lunch. My friend ordered the Fish and Chips and I went for the Beef and Noodles. Evidently his was acceptable but my Beef and Noodles were runny. I figured I'd just mix in the mashed potatoes but when I tasted them they were cold and stiff. I decided before sending it back that I would give the Green Beans a taste, for some reason they were sour. By the time a server (not ours) was available to assist, my friend was half way through his meal. I communicated my issue and asked for another menu. The next time we saw a server (ours) was after my friend was finished with his meal. She offered to bring me Coleslaw or something ready to eat which I declined and then proceeded to charge me for my beverage, I questioned that and it was pulled off of the bill. They totally failed me in all aspects but between the fact that I did not pay and my friend was satisfied with his meal is why there are 2 stars instead of 1. I've had decent meals here in the past and at the time was going to return, but after thinking about it, whenever I work in this area in the future I will be hitting the drive throughs. If you do eat here stick to the simple sandwiches and away from items that require any real preparation.More
Been going there since I was a teenager. Recently had the chicken liver meal. Best chicken livers in Indiana. Not overly breaded and tender. Tenderloins are also fantastic
Steer In is a must when in Indianapolis. Can't recommend it enough. The burgers are tremendous and that double steer burger -- the house specialty -- is absolutely superb. They also charge reasonable prices for very high quality food. This place shouldn't be missed.
The waitress was dirty she was not The fish was with Angel cook the hamburger was raw it was a very bad visit I will not be back there all the employees with Jordy the bathroom was dirty they took forever to find a table...for us to sit down and take off oil it was at wages in this part it was too high for $25 for two cheeseburgers and two fish like $25 is too much money okayMore
I placed my order on line around 3:30 today and the time said Eta around 4:25. I stopped at the gas station a couple blocks from home. It wasn't even 4 when I got home. I asked for steak medium well but it was medium...rare. They called me asking if I was home. The lady was rude telling me to answer the door for driver this time. Really?? I paid for an uncooked steak and rude people. The driver was rude asking me if I just got home and just handed me bag walking away. I gave them another chance after a bad experience end if last year.More
A 1960s authentic diner, big menu with a lot of choices. The pork tenderloin sandwich was fantastic. Despite the restaurant being completely full on a Friday night the service was good and helpful with questions on the menu. They were doing a non-stop to-go business...too. The decor is well...kinda ugly like high school sweaters and old photos but I dig the old-school vibe they're striving for. My local friends steered me to the Steer-In and they didn't steer me wrong. (Sorry had to do this wordplay here). The prices are very reasonable too. The folks at the next table it was also their first time there and they were commenting on how much they enjoyed their burgers. So definitely worth checking out again when I'm in townMore
A must go to when in Indy!!! Great menu, prices, and service!! Thank you Sadie. You’re fantastic at what you do! We will definitely be back to this historic diner!
I've been going to the Historic Steer In since it opened in the late 1950s. (I guess that makes me historic.) Good traditional diner fare. But the menu has been greatly expanded. Excellent pizza and pasta, too.
