When we arrived, our table was ready with cottage cheese, beets and apple butter (had reservations). The menu is not extensive, but offers several types of meats (fish, shrimp, chicken, beef) and all entrees come with mashed potatoes, corn and green beans, served family style. My husband ordered the fish and I had the combination plate to sample all the... More

From the moment you drive up to the stately home that, years ago, was transformed into a lovely restaurant, you are in for a treat. Sitting atop a hill at 30th & Cold Springs Rd, the Iron Skillet is easily accessible from all around Indy & beyond. A group of 9 friends met for a late lunch & it was... More

We have been coming here for 20 years now. The best fried chicken on the planet! The family style serving is reminiscent of decades ago dining. Awesome staff that bends over backwards to exceed your expectations!

Craving GOOD chicken some weeks ago, we recalled going, a few times years ago, to the Iron Skillet with some seniors, long-time Indy area residents. We read some reviews here, also on other sites, and figured out what to do. Here's the thing we discovered upon skimming reviews -- for the most part, there are three types who wrote reviews:... If my Gran were still alive...she would insist we take her here once a month because the Skillet does great food 'properly'. Each course is traditionally tasty. I was told about the wonderful fried chicken, but I tasted the walleye, and the walleye is what calls me back. Don't forget to save room for the scoop of ice cream with... More

We love this p,ace. We go there for the two of us or the whole family, and with friends. The food is served family style. Their specialty is fried chicken. They also serve baked, fried or grilled fish. Several of our group had fish, some walleye and some had tilapia with roasted almonds. They also serve steak and shrimp. And... More

My family has been going to the Iron Skillet for over 30 years! We dine in sometimes and others we carry out. We are always greeted warmly and feel right at home. Served family style you won't leave hungry! Chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans are the main draw. The carousel of toppings for your dessert sundae is delicious too! We... More

This is our go to place for special evenings out. Their onion soup is so amazing, their mashed potatoes taste like real potatoes, their fried chicken is the best I have ever had and love the ice cream to end the meal. The dressing on the salad is so tasty, cannot say enough about this place. There are 2 Iron... More
