Love the atmosphere at the Gerst House! The decor is appropriate to make you feel a little closer to your German heritage and the food is good. The outside patio area is nice.

The atmosphere was great, a charming old world restaurant that looked to be quite busy and lively. The food was great. I am not an expert on German food but have had it at several other traditional German restaurants in Wisconsin, and compared to those, this was good but not better. The schnitzel was not quite as crispy and the... More

Visiting family in Evansville. I always make a point to come to the Gerst Haus. Whether it's for a beer at the bar or dinner in the dining room. I really like the atmosphere and the historical feel of the building. Feels like a friendly place to me. I enjoyed the bratwurst sandwich and a delicious wheat beer in a... More

My daughter and I decided to meet at the Gerst house just to catch up. We ate in the bar, and it was fairly quiet. Gerst house is located in an old hardware store, so it has old wood floors, high ceilings and a German atmosphere. I recommend the Gerst beer. My daughter and I shared a meal. They have... More

We were very impressed with the food and service. I've been to a few German restaurants and felt ripped off due to small food portions. Not so with this restaurant. The servings are generous. Great atmosphere, too.

I went with my spouse and father in law. The food was great, as well as drink selection. The atmosphere is laid back and fun. My only suggestion would be to have a veggie burger. As a vegetarian, I didn't have good options.

My husband and I stopped at Gerst for dinner after reading about it here on Trip Advisor. We were in Evansville to catch a baseball game at Bosse Field. We were pleasantly surprised by the warmth and atmosphere. With its' enormously high ceilings and beautiful old world bar, it was most welcoming. Our waitress (wish I could remember her name... Interesting combination of german, austrian and hungarian dishes. I had the Wiener Schnitzel and it was just like at home (im currently living in Austria). Very lecker!

This restaurant (and most of Franklin Street for that matter) is a hidden treasure. Most enjoyable meal we've had for a while. Everything from the hard dark rye bread to the kraut balls to the schnitzel is fabulous. Something like 60 draft beers. But proceed with caution :-). Should you each order a fishbowl of beer - as we did... More
