Enjoyed breakfast at this adorable old house. This place was recommended by a local and loved the atmosphere of an old house. I had a maple latte which was amazingly delicious and a regular coffee. The food was good but it wasn’t great. The French...toast wasn’t cooked all the way. Service and coffee 5 out of 5 and food 4 out of 5. I would still highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a unique place for breakfast or stop in for some great coffee.More

Had breakfast here thanksgiving weekend, wait wasn’t bad. The coffee and lattes we had were good, food was good, ambiance was fun, staff was friendly! We would go back when in town.

Had an amazing breakfast for lunch here…the smoked salmon and croissant bennie was so delicious, and I got a side of the horseradish caper sauce as well because I was contemplating the salmon hash, so best of both worlds 😉. I would highly recommend this...charming and delightful restaurant.More

We have had BF here more than once. As a vegetarian your choices are limited eggs in various forms are available . If not mix fruits with granola and yoghurt is your only option as a main course. On the side you can always have...things like sauted vegetables or fries . The ambience is great its in the town centre on the main road with plenty of seating inside and outside . The portions of coffee and tea are enormous . its better if two people can share that big cup. Those plants and greenery in pots makes it more luring.More

Took my family there. I was interested in the chicken but they were inexplicably out of chicken and steak. I was forced to have a vegan dish which wasn't very good. My wife ordered a Reuben which came out as a week inedible mess that...they refused to replace. All in all not a good first experience.More

Great little place to relax and enjoy great food. Reubens were wonderful! The rye bread was some of the best I’ve ever tasted. Parking was a little difficult, but that was the only negative.

My wife and I ate dinner at the Runcible Spoon before a concert at IU Auditorium. The restaurant is across the street from the Poplars garage, and a nice place for dinner before taking the shuttle to the auditorium. The staff was friendly and efficient,...and our food was delightful. Although breakfast is served all day, we opted for dinner entrees, which were both excellent. I enjoyed the Spoon Chicken, a tender herb marinated chicken breast served with smashed potatoes, black beans, and a vegetable medley, while my wife had the chicken fettucine. Both entrees were delicious. We finished dinner by splitting a creme brulee for dessert. Although we were not partaking, they had a reasonably varied and diverse wine and beer list. The interior is decorated in an eclectic, whimsical style in keeping with the restaurant's name taken from the Edward Lear poem. We loved the atmosphere, staff, and experience, and definitely will be back.More

I didn't know that biscuits and gravy were so popular in Indiana. This place got it right! The pancake with blueberries was really good and the french toast was even better. The idea of a wine based Bloody Mary wasn't exactly appealing, but I've got...to say I was pleasantly surprised.More

Warm and comfy, especially on a cold and rainy day. The restaurant is in an old house and seems small and close knit, but surprisingly has quite a bit of space. I'd like to come here when it's warmer - the back deck looks pretty...cool. The effect is kind of like some early 70's hippie vibe. But let's get to the food. It's top rate. Although they lean towards their vegetarian heritage, you can get meet and potatoes here if you want. Was here for breakfast and my partner had the basic bacon and eggs meal - all very tasty for her. The coffee was off the charts. I went a little different and went with the salmon and eggs benedict on a croissant. So good and nicely balanced. They go lighter on the hollandaise sauce so it doesn't overpower everything else. It worked so well. I'll have to come back for the deck and to check out the lunch and dinner menus. They do have beer and wine, but no bar.More

The food was ok. Kind of a greasy spoon type of place. It is worn down and dirty. The table was tiny and sticky. The booths torn and nasty. The plates huge and over served. There were 3 of us and we got 5 glasses...of water all at once. It would normally not be a big deal at all but like I said it is a very small table 24” round top for a party of 4. The service was just ok.More

After passing by a few times during a recent trip to Bloomington, we decided to have breakfast at Runcible Spoon on our final day. It was so very good! My daughter has a gluten allergy and our waiter took the time to make sure the...granola, fruit, and yogurt bowl was safe to eat; that was appreciated. My husband got an omelette that was huge, fluffy, and delicious. I ordered the smoked salmon with a bagel - it did not disappoint! The decor is cozy and reminded me of eating in an old house where the owner wanted their guests to be comfortable. If ever back in Bloomington, I will return!More

Visited Bloomington to reminisce about my college years, late 70s early 80s, and had to visit. A lot has changed around town, but not The Runcible Spoon. Still a wonderful place to eat and relax in a comfortable, homey atmosphere. For me it was always...a breakfast treat when in school because I wasn’t eating out very often on my very limited budget. This visit I had the Bonne Femme omelette, which was a bacon, potatoes and onion omelette, but not mixed into the eggs like many places. Delicious! And our service was outstanding. We avoid chains like the plague, and this place is the antithesis of a chain. A unique local tradition that I hope lives on forever.More
