Visited Bloomington to reminisce about my college years, late 70s early 80s, and had to visit. A lot has changed around town, but not The Runcible Spoon. Still a wonderful place to eat and relax in a comfortable, homey atmosphere. For me it was always...a breakfast treat when in school because I wasn’t eating out very often on my very limited budget.
This visit I had the Bonne Femme omelette, which was a bacon, potatoes and onion omelette, but not mixed into the eggs like many places. Delicious! And our service was outstanding.
We avoid chains like the plague, and this place is the antithesis of a chain. A unique local tradition that I hope lives on forever.More
While visiting our daughter at IU, we had breakfast in this cozy family owned place. Excellent food and super coffee and tea. Waitstaff were attentive and prompt despite a busty Sunday morning. Highly recommended!
We enjoyed a delicious brunch at the Runcible Spoon Cafe. The food was delicious, the service excellent and the atmosphere very pleasant. It was a beautiful day and we sat outside and had a wonderful meal. They have lovely outdoor seating. If you go to...Bloomington, Indiana, check out the Runcible Spoon.More
Super cute outdoor dining adjacent to IU campus. I had the vegetarian eggs Benedict and it was delicious. They added spinach and tomatoes. I also had a mocha with almond milk which was generous in size with whipped cream and chocolate sauce. Also very good....I was able to bring my dog into the outdoor dining area which was very quaint and semi shaded. I will definitely dine here again. I was not able to get a peek inside since I had my dog with me.More
We had to wait a pretty long time for a patio table, but it was worth it once seated. The breeze was nice and we aren't comfortable eating indoors during COVID, so this worked for us. The home fries were a highlight. A full order...for the table was enough for our party of four. The tex-mex ranchero omelet was very good with delicious, juicy tomato flavor. The eggs ordered a la carte were fluffy and delicious. My husband loved the chef's choice omelet. All in all a good experience.More
My family and I had a late breakfast at the Runcible Spoon, on the rrecommendation of my son's friend. We were not disappointed. My wife and I had what in Germany would be called a "farmer's omelet" (bauer omelet ) which contained bacon, potatoes and...onions. My son's friend had a salmon egg's benedict, loaded with so many pieces of salmon she could not complete it. But, my son and I had no problems finishing our entrees, they were so delicious. His: a stuffed sandwich of some sort, which I cannot recall. The Cafe also has alocoholic beverages. And the best latte I' have had in years. In short, the Runcible Cafe is a real find, a treat that you will enjoy. Don't pass it up for breakfast or much.More
Had a great breakfast here with a colleague. We ate outside on the patio and enjoyed our breakfast and coffee. Staff were beyond friendly, food was fresh and plentiful. Look forward to returning, thank you.
First time at the Runcible Spoon today for lunch. What a fun place! I ordered The Kevin Enright (2 eggs, wheat toast, choice of French toast or pancakes and a choice of bacon, sausage, home fries or ham $9.50). My friend ordered Gypsy Chicken (Grilled...chicken breast, herbed and marinated, drizzled with light herb tomato sauce, topped with Parmesan served with a fresh vegetable medley, smashed potatoes and black beans $9.75) Everything was absolutely delicious. A coffee and a cappuccino completed our meal. Generous portions, the eggs were cooked to perfection. Housed in a house, this cafe was filled with books, art, and soft background music. They offer outside seating as well, but is was pouring rain so we opted for indoor. The service was spot on, it couldn't have been any better. Breakfast is served all day. Hope you'll get there sometime, it's a local treasure!More
