We came to southern stone with the expectation of a dinner with family catching up at a newer place with good reviews. We went in understanding that it was a newer place that may have some kinks in the operation. We did not get that....With 6 adults we made a reservation well in advance. Our 2 appetizers came out more than 40 minutes after our arrival and we made that decision pretty quickly then proceeded to our dinner order which took another 30 minutes after our appetizer arrival. Our fried pickles came out lukewarm and soggy. Our dinner arrived sporadically and we had to ask 3 different times for the things we ordered. Drinks were empty awhile before they were filled. Toasted bread came soggy, soups were lukewarm and gristle in the pulled pork. My husband enjoyed the ham hot mess and my brother-in-law enjoyed the catfish tacos. The soups were delicious despite being the wrong temperature. No apologies or explanations were made about our wait. We were there for almost 2 hours and it wasn’t busy. This place has great potential. The live music was nice, she just kept getting progressively louder through the night. Excecution: Poor Potential: Great We would love to see a local business thrive and with this review I hope to see it grow into a B-town staple.More

Contemplated ordering carry out versus dine in. It was a Friday night so I get they are going to be busy. MGR highly recommended we dine in as first priority to food orders goes to dine in customers over a carry out. We have a...7:30 PM reservation. Our appetizer arrived at 8:35. My salad did not come our before the meal. I ordered the salmon. It’s the smallest portion of salmon I have ever received at any restaurant. It was at best 3” x 3” wide at best served on a side of wilted lettuce. It was one of the top dollar items on the menu. $24 It arrived very dry and cold. Daughter ordered the shrimp Po boy. The shrimp was Over cooked, dry and tasteless. Our other daughter ordered the shrimp tacos. The taco shells were crusted with a fried or melted cheese. Not what she expected And not the description on the menu. We only saw three servers for the entire restaurant. Patio was full and indoor seating was moderately full. Staff was working very hard and looked incredibly stressed. None of the tables were busses the entire time we were there. We live very close to the restaurant and hoped for a much better experience. We will try again. Unfortunately very disappointed with the overall experience From the quality of food to the duration of the visit with a reservation. Live music was a nice thought. However it was not pleasant.More

Pricey price prepay for graduation at $60 for an entree and salad which in reality was a $40 meal at best. They refused to removed cheese from an entree and the drinks took forever. No comp for the table after a drink was spilt down...the back of one member of our party. They couldn’t figure out how to split a check in 2. It was amateur at best.More

There were six people in our party, and we all had a wonderful time. The crab cakes with garlic mashed potatoes and collard greens were particularly delicious. There was a good selection of beers, which pleased the younger members of our party. The two vegans...in our group easily found something on the menu to enjoy as well with minor adjustments. Our waiter was very solicitous and we had a wonderful evening. Highly recommended!More

Came here on a Thursday evening for dinner with my sister. We both had the filet with mashed potatoes and asparagus. It was good but did take a rather long time to get and we were the only ones there as we got there early....For $38, it was unusual to not be served complimentary bread and/or salad, but because the wait was so long we were given some corn bread after about a half hour wait. With that said, the meal was good and our server, Cameron, was pleasant. Would recommend if you're okay with a possible long wait.More

We visited on a Sunday for brunch and had a very nice meal. I don't understand the complaints from those who were Sweetgrass fans before: if you take this place for what it is now, I think you will be happy. The best of the...food our group had was the shrimp and grits, but everything was tasty (burgers, salad, etc). Service was relaxed but did check on us several times, so we didn't feel there were any issues on that front. We also enjoyed the 'easy listening' live music going on during our visit, and the space is quite striking. Cost of the brunch was very reasonable, in our opinion. So we will be back.More

I was a big fan of Sweetgrass when I lived in Bloomington... came back to Btown hoping to enjoy one of my favorite restaurants and was extremely disappointed... Sweetgrass used to be synonymous with great burgers and AMAZING homemade chips. The rebranding to Southern Stone...has resulted in a mediocre and generic menu with sub par burgers (I could have gotten a simar burger at Steak & Shake). The french fries which replaced the beloved chips were a step below Ore-ida frozen fries with some seasoning salt on them. Also the new decor and check books were cheap and tacky. I miss the real and classy southern charm that Sweetgrass had. I hope at some point I can have a real Sweetgrass experience again :(More

Sill not sure why they changed the restaurant name, but thankfully they retained some of the menu favorites which are excellent. They seem to be tweeking the menu a bit, and breakfast is not listed on their website, but I confirmed they still offer it...and that menu is basically unchanged -- a good thing.More

This place is a re-boot of Sweetgrass, which always had really poor service and mediocre food. They did a great job with the decor--very unique and impressive hand-painted murals with a rural Indiana quarry theme. I wish they'd done a more complete reboot though. The...service is still REALLY spotty, beginning with the seating process (and the place was practically empty). Server took a really long time between each step--to greet us, bring us water, bring us wine, and after three explicit requests, bring us some bread (Side note: Please get some good fresh-baked bread to serve rather than the tiny sweet corn cakes!). Server didn't clear plates in a timely fashion and had to be begged to refill water--and then grabbed one of our glasses and took it back to the kitchen for a refill (or a new glass?). Oh, by the way, if you're vegan or vegetarian, don't even bother with this place. Very heavy on red meat throughout the menu, and the few chicken or seafood items had--you guessed it--some kind of dairy. Food was so-so. Ended up getting the salmon, which was cooked quite nicely, but the two "sides" were disappointing. Tiny portion of "waffle sweet potato fries," and the "seasonal vegetables" turned out to be a little cup of cut green beans that, honestly, seemed like they'd come out of a can. It's also too bad the reboot didn't come with new tables and chairs, because the tables are a plain black vinyl surface and the chairs are hard wood and metal.More
