First time visit on a recent Monday for lunch with a work group which included one colleague who is from Poland. The lunch was exceptional, very authentic Polish food, very hearty, big servings. Our table had pierogis, stuffed cabbage rolls, potato pancakes, chicken noodle soup, Babcia's pancake, and Polish sausage. It was all terrific. The one big downside to our time there was that one person in our party ordered the zapienkanka but her order apparently was not relayed to the kitchen by the server. After everyone's elses food was served, she was told it would be just a few minutes, but that turned into about 30 minutes - no food. We all shared from our (plentiful) plates but felt bad for our friend. When her food was finally served, the rest of us had finished our meals and her lunch had to be boxed to take back to the office. Her meal was comped but the issue for our friend detracted from the overall experience. If not for that service issue, would be five stars for the food and overall atmosphere.

We ordered online for take out: Pierogi (comes with sour cream), Smoked Salmon, and Dinner-stuffed Cabbage (mushroom sauce and Soup of the day).
All taste excellent.
We ordered take out, because dining takes along time.

Last-minute trip to Chicago and as usual we tried a new (to us) restaurant. Trip Advisor gave U Gazdy high marks and as it was close we gave it a shot. Our family is German/Bohemian and we've eaten at German/Bohemian/Chech/Polish restaurants all over Chicago and wherever our travel takes us. U Gazdy is one of the best. We had the "Polish Plate" lunch special with the usual sausage pierogis cabbage roll and potato pancake, so much food, we should have ordered one and split it. Of note was the really good mushroom gravy. We'll be back.

Have been here in the past. Pleased... decided to go again. With another couple..Clean place.
It must have been an OFF night..The food was not as expected. Not at all...Waiter had to ask someone every question we asked. Not POLISH and should be..to fit in with the restaurant. And especially the menu..
Food was just ok/ or less..but soo disappointed. Husband had pork shank.
presented well...way over done. Zucchini pancakes rubbery and tasteless. We shared and potato pancakes were soggy. Seemed not completely cooked..
No crispy edges like in the past.. that opinion was agreed..dishes served did not seem fresh at all..meat dish had fat..lots...too much for us..
Probably will not return ..maybe new owners or new cook..so..????
Reviews help one to making decisions ..very helpful. And this is our most recent opinion. Not good.!.

Our Polish friends wanted to try U Gazdy. It was over a half hour ride & well worth it. The one bad point was we had to wait 1/2 an hour past our reservation time. It's a small dining area & people were taking their time. The way the hostess handled the delay was perfect. She apologized and bought are first round of drinks. After that the service was impeccable. The food was spectacular. I had the pork shank & everyone else had duck. A lot of food for very reasonasble prices. We will drive back.

This restaurant was fantastic for our last minute very large group! Betty, the owner, was awesome. She was so accommodating and got us our food quickly with grace! The food was all delicious! We had the 4 person platter, 2 types of pierogi, lamb shank and more. We were 15 people all very pleased with everything we ate! Highly recommended!

Came highly recommended by our Polish friend and did not disappoint. Four different meals, four different flavors, all the same quality -- great authentic favorites: Pork Shank, Pierogi, Potato Pancakes, Beef Stroganoff, Kielbasa (special order). Don't miss this ethnic classic when you're in town!

Being is Polish decent, we can be hard to impress when you say you serve Polish food, but this place was excellent. We had a large family dinner and they were wonderful in accommodating us. All of the food we were served (family style) was delicious and the staff was friendly and on top of things. I would recommend this place to all.

We ate here for the first time and I was completely satisfied with the food, service, drinks & atmosphere. We had the pellini appetizer, the rabbit dinner & the duck dinner and all were amazingly tasty. I've been to many Polish restaurants in the Chicago area and U Gazdy is by far the best. We will definitely be back!!

This was the first visit to the area for business and will be coming back to the area a few times a year. I will also be coming to this place every chance I get. Perfect atmosphere , and tried new things that were delicious.

Great place to eat but reservation is a MUST.
We just got here (after driving 3 hours from Wisconsin Dells) and this place is packed.
The older gentleman was really nice and he was so sorry and apologized to us.
The young gentleman (which was our server/bartender last time) responded right away and said that we can put our name on the list and comeback in hour.
On our way back to the door, blonde long hair waitress lady stopped us and said that the first available table will be probably in 2 hours or so.
Again - delicious food but reservation is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

We go here every year that we are in Chicago with our extended family (Aunt & Cousins). Atmosphere is wonderful. Food is AMAZING! Price is good for family style and the choices...YUM!

I was looking for something “different” for dinner on a Saturday night and the local German restaurant was packed. I found this place and we decided to try it out. It is a tiny place that we’ve probably passed many times. I think we were the only ones in the restaurant speaking English, but that was a good sign! It has a lot of support from the local Polish community. Everything was delicious and authentic and the service was good. Due to a misunderstanding they brought my husband the wrong meal, but it looked mouthwatering so he decided to keep it and enjoyed every bite. Depending on when you go, you may need to make a reservation because it is a small restaurant and fills up quickly. They will even sing sto lat to you on your birthday! The wooden decor is lovely, too - feels like you are eating in a lodge.
