Two weary homeward bound Manhattanites ( the pickiest!) chose this as the only non fast food option. Our expectations were low but the food was good and the helpings large. Flowerpot bread was cute but somewhat sweet. Didn’t have room for dessert.

We chose this restaurant as a convenient stop on a road trip, and because it had good reviews. Service was slow and indifferent. I picked medium rare filet mignon, because I figured a grill could manage something simple like that. It arrived dry, tough, and...overcooked. The sauce that was supposed to go with it was not there.More

I have been visiting Vandalia for the past 5 years; I have eaten at the Gallatin Street Grille for an equal amount of time. Everything I have had is excellent; the consistency and quality of the food is excellent. The service has always been the...best! I would highly recommend their steaks . For a restaurant of this quality to be located in downtown Vandalia, IL is the best!More

Food was great and so was the service. It's not fast food. Go with the mindset it's fresh and cooked on order so allow a little time for quality

Great little restaurant just west of the old State Capital in Vandalia. The pulled pork sandwich was one of the best I’ve had anywhere.

The Gallatin Street Grill is a quaint little restaurant that offer fine dining. The choices on the menu are very good and reasonably priced. They also have a nice wine selection to choose from. If you are in a hurry, this is not the place...to go to. The Gallatin Street Grill offers a quiet atmosphere with great ambiance.More

Looking for a place to stop for dinner after a long car ride. What a find when we found the Gallatin Street Grille. Great drinks - margaritas and bloody marys; great food - homemade onion rings, pork tenderloin sandwich, sweet potato fries, pork steak with...country beans and long-grain rice. All was yummy! Wish we would've had room for dessert!More

This was a relaxing and delicious stop for us on a road trip. The decor is interesting, quiet music was playing in the background and the food was lovely. One of us had a build a burger with waffle sweet potato fries that was very...inexpensive for the quality and quantity. Would highly recommend that! The other had appetizer crab cakes which also were tasty, tasty. We would stop again if passing through town.More

Stopping for a late lunch on the way from San Diego back to Michigan and again gave a #1 rated restaurant in a small town a try -- and glad we did. Top prize went to my wife's crab cakes -- which the owner stopped...by the table and discussed how they were done compared to recipes elsewhere. Bacon cheese burger was appreciated, as was a pulled pork sandwich. The final A-plus goes to the chocolate lava cake dessert. All at a reasonable price.More

This quaint eatery provides a warm, welcoming atmosphere and food that is delicious and well prepared. I had a pork steak, green beans, the BEST potato soup I have ever tasted and a piece of yummy salted caramel pie for dessert. My traveling companion had...a half rack of ribs that literally fell off of the bones. Tara, our server, was knowledgeable, helpful and perky. We planned on seeing the "fire breathing dragon" that is a tourist stop in Vandalia, but were uncertain of its location. The restaurant staff not only directed us to the dragon, but gave us a free token (usually $1) to make it breath fire. The restaurant is easy to access from I-70 is in the center of the downtown.More
