I really like the philly beef sandwich served on grilled Texas bread. Good amount of beef and cheese on it along with peppers, onions, and mushrooms. The Wisconsin cheese soup is okay-lumpy and only warm, not hot. Breakfasts come with a good serving of hashbrowns....This cafe is good, overall. We like coming here when we pass through town.More
Ate there recently and my friends main meal of liver and onions was overcooked, (meat was like shoe leather), and the waitress said she would not charge us for it. And as a side note, both of our meals 'included' soup. When we got the...bill, we were charged for the soup because, as the manager dictated to the poor waitress, 'if they take something off the bill, then a charge is put into place to compensate for the loss'. Are you kidding me??!! Absolutely unconscionable, one of the worst business practices I've ever seen...ever....and needless to say, we'll never go back and will continue to spread the word. Shame on them!More
The Philly beef sandwich on Texas toast was very good! We also tried the chicken chipotle wrap, which was also tasty. Salads are fresh. Soups are usually very good, too. Service is fast and friendly. Food is served hot! Consistently good for breakfast and lunch....Have not tried any dinners yet.More
Very clean restaurant. I ordered the country fried steak skillet with no gravy. My husband had the Mexican omelette. He said it was great. My skillet came with gravy. I decided not to say anything and try the gravy. It was way too rich for...my liking. The server was very friendly.More
This is a busy restaurant. When we go to Taylorville, we try to be there at lunch time so we can eat at Spring Garden. Every time I dine there, I get the fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, because they are so good and...so filling. Everything is hot. It's a lot of food for the money.More
I am so glad I stopped in this place.
The waitress was very attentive. Ordered fried chicken and I got it within 15 minutes. Everything tasted homemade. Excellent sweet tea.
I am going to go back and try more menu items soon!
My husband and I have passed by this diner many times and (finally) decided to give it a try. I ordered the fried tilapia (2 pieces) which comes with a HUGE portion of fresh fruit along with your choice of soup or salad. My husband...ordered the chopped steak with mushrooms and mashed potatoes/gravy along with choice of soup or salad. The salads were a generous size and they were served with a large basket of crackers along with 2 warm rolls. The entrees were an extremely generous portions! The diner is exceptionally clean and the staff are friendly and attentive. I guarantee we will be taking many more trips over from Springfield to have future meals whether it be breakfast or lunch/dinner. You don’t want to miss this stop!!More
I don't usually complain, but I can't recommend this restaurant. Below average food quality, mediocre service. Waitress says everything ok, we answer, well actually, since you asked, not really, and we explain. She says nothing. Silence. Then walks away. We are baffled. A little later,...Manager comes over, everything ok? Well no actually. We explain. Same response, silence. Strange smile. Walks away. We go to pay the bill. How was everything tonight. I respond, well you really don't want to know. She goes to get the manager. He offers a free dessert. My Dad says, great, a dessert I don't want to make up for a meal I couldn't eat. Never received any sort of apology for an inedible meal. We weren't looking for a discount. Just some dignity. Not many choices in this small town, but this place is no longer an option.More
We were looking for something different to grab some food. The place was busy, so that's a good sign. Food portions were good, staff was very good, clean place. We would return if we're in that area again.
