This is one of my favorite restaurants on the north shore of Chicago. As silly as it seems, I absolutely love their bread sticks. We have never had a bad meal here and the service is always amazing. As usual, I started with the house salad / house dressing. My entrée was the sea bass which was nicely prepared -... More

Steaks and everything else are pretty good, but it's a very expensive place. I asked if they had the surf and turf, the waiter said yes, and did not tell me the cost. It was over $100! I was shocked, it was not worth the money, and they took advantage of me. Will not go back.

I've been coming here since they opened their doors. You gotta love the atmosphere, the service, the food. EJ cuts his steaks that are aged to perfection. Cooked as you liked, entrees come with salad and potatoes. I recommend the salad chopped with the house dressing and some anchovies. Fish for the non carnivore's... Great pasta dishes as well. Start... More

was here last night with a large group. been by the place hundreds of times and this was my first visit, so i can only refer to ej's from a large party point of view. old timey supper club feel to the place, and it probably has a regular crowd. sometimes when with a large group one expects a rote... We were the first couple to be seated in the front area. Quiet, pleasant conversation and we were looking forward to the meal. Got our drinks and ordered our meal. Other guests started to arrive. Two tables of 9 and the noise level was deafening. Ate our salads and entrees and left quickly without dessert or coffee. Veal limone was... More

We went there for dinner as a family of 4 to celebrate my son's birthday. Two people had steak and the other two had pasta dishes. The food was NOT cheap and the quality was neither memorable nor worth the price. We won't be coming back.

It would be too simplistic to call EJ's an American Steakhouse, although that is what the ambiance suggests. The food includes fish and pasta and all American favorites. I had a German Octoberfest draft beer that was delightful. Wait staff are men dressed in starched white steakhouse fashion of the 20th century, rather than cool and sloppy duds of the... More

Glad I wasn't picking up the tab..... But glad I could enjoy the excellent meal! 11 of us were in a small cozy room near the front and it was a great spot for a large group. Waiters were attentive and pleasant and the drinks decent.... In very plain glassware.... Apps were above average with peppers and sausage being the... More

Fun evening with friends at one of their favorite local places. Had a nice filet with all the fixings.

Returning to Chicago for a week, I was excited to to back to EJ's, which I had previously reviewed as outstanding although everything is $ 10 overpriced. I have to revise that statement. Everything is really good, but at least $ 15 overpriced! I had Chicken Vesuvio, which was really good, but I'd had it a few days earlier at... More
