A ton of food! Eggs seemed to be jumbo eggs, the sausage links were very large, kielbasa was hefty. Even though you got a significant amount of food, I think it was a bit over priced. The roasted potatoes were absolutely delicious. The food was served to us hot. That is the most outstanding part of the visit. Even though our waitress was very nice and got our order correct and brought it to our table in a timely manner, she never returned to check on us.

This was a really nice restaurant. The portions were large, staff was friendly. Had a decent menu and plenty of dessert choices. It was loud but that was due to it being busy. Server was patient and knew everything there was to know about the menu.

So glad my friend and i stopped here for a late lunch before attending the Shaun Cassidy Concert! Our waitress was the BEST! Made sure we got our food in time to get to the concert. Everything was fresh and tasty. The corn bread was amazing! Will definitely stop by when we are in the area again.

Alright. I am happy to see that people are still enjoying this diner! Back in about 1977 (not 2023 as above... was as far back as I was able to select)... before internet and leaving reviews, my father was in St Charles for training with his business. My parents and I dined at this location probably 5 times while we were in town. I have fond memories of our time there. I was relaying them to someone today and decided to check online to see if everything was still operational. 🙃 I am so happy to see this. Key things I remember... soup was served with a basket of wrapped bread/thick pretzel sticks, Melba toast and saltines. If you asked for fish and chips, that's exactly what you got. If you wanted fries and not chips, you needed to specify that. When we thanked the waitresses, the responses were not "you're welcome," in any form... It was "Mmhmm" in a cheery tone. Kinda cute and unique. (Of course, nowadays, someone may take offense to that response. 🙄) And... if we ordered a sundae, we had to be careful what we were going to get. (And every sundae had a cherry on top!) The reason we would have to ask for a dish with icecream was because of your famous kitchen sink. We were very impressed with that innovation... Especially since we owned a dairy farm and the training Dad was doing was regarding dairy equipment and sanitation. Almost 50 years later, this is onevof my fondest memories. Now I'm wondering how I can get my hands on one of those sinks. Haha (but quite serious about that.) Keep doing what you have been so wonderful at for all these years.

Colonial is a DISGRACE. Do restaurant owners not go eat at a competitor's place nearby to compare the experience to what he/she offers? Within a stone's throw of colonial there are the other 2 east side coffee shops......BOTH are extremely expensive, as is Colonial, BUT both of the others serve a meal that would feed a horse. Huge portions by comparison. I just ate breakfast at Colonial only because i was in a hurry, and hadn't been there in years, so what the hell. { i've lived within 2 miles of Colonial for 35 years and have been there twice based on their not so hot reputation ]. The cost was the same at the other 2 places....outrageously expensive. You know what i mean.....Inflation rose 11% since Covid and ALL restaurants raised their prices 30% , you know that's true. The place is dank. Gray carpet that at best looks dirty and worn. GRAY booths, BLACK trim....did they even TALK to a marketing person before they did that? No restaurant should/would do that. The Eggs were COLD...the sausage is odd tasting at best, NO POTATOES......WHAT? Even crummmy Denny's served potatoes with breakfast...BTW, they just went out of business. I guess i am hard to please. I expected a warm, edible, breakfast in pleasant surroundings for my $15 plus tip. And while i'm at it i didn't appreciate the electronic checkout asking if i wanted to leave a 25% tip, or 20. or18. I left 20, the server was nice.Colonial is a DISGRACE. Do restaurant owners not go eat at a competitor's place nearby to compare the experience to what he/she offers? The "flacky crust" on the chicken pot pie was anything but flacky. Totally false advertising. Hard baked crust over okay chicken mix was not flacky except on menu.

Stopped by this Resarurant after taking photo's at the St Charles Historical Museum.Happened to arrive here on a Wed morning the 22nd of May Well on my arrival the server asked if I wanted where she wanted to...I told her I prefer a window booth. After siting down a gentleman unknown to me, sitting ahead of me in a different booth said, his name was in on the menu. He told me he was the one that invented the banana split called " The Kitchen Sink" his name is Tom Anderson. It was an honor & a treat to meet the owner of the Colonial Cafe ...& the inventor of the classic banana split called the "Kitchen Sink" Well on to my review...I ordered Steak & eggs,a bagel with cream cheese, along with lemonade .Having caramel pecan pie for dessert. The server Jacqueline was great as my server... what a great personality . After my 1st time at this Restaurant I came back two more times.... one was to order the Kitchen Sink put on a miniature kitchen sink pedestal after a day at the Wheel's O Time museum, along with dinner...I was hungry that night. The last time was on a Sat. to stop here for dinner before going home...had a lemonade ,chocolate milk, strawberry lemonade ,chicken tenders, along with Tall Turtle foe dessert. The server Zachary was fabulous as well . Will be stopping by this May 2020 for another trip to the wonderful state of Illinois. I highly recommend this Restaurant for Breakfast, Lunch, or Dinner. You won't be disappointed

Kevin, thank you for the 5 bubble review. Tom is often in the restaurant and enjoys visiting with guests. Nice job tackling the Kitchen Sink, it's no easy task. We look forward to May and your next visit.

Long day of travelling hence convenient next door to hotel so we came for dinner. I had the pulled pork mac and cheese and it was more than plentiful and also tasted fantastic. Famous for ice cream we shared the PBF Chipper and could eat that everyday. Prices are more than fair. Service was great and friendly. Restaurant was very clean. Plenty of parking

Who would have thought meatloaf and eggs would taste great together? Colonial Cafe did. It’s really nice to see newly added items to what has slowly become our favorite restaurant. Ask about their points system to earn towards $$$. We had a free meal last night by using our points.

The restaurant very nice and has a good atmosphere. There are cool pictures of the history of the restaurant and great food as well. The Fried Chicken meal is pretty good as well as the raspberry hot chocolate was also good. It could also be pricey but I did get the bigger version of the meal. I did not get the ice cream but the menu was big so will certainly come back for that.

There’s a reason why they have been around since the 60’S.... great food. We ate there twice. A lunch and late dinner. Family atmosphere. Good service. Friendly staff. Great food for a cafe. They have ice cream treats galore. The kitchen sink looked interesting. Not fan fare for a lactose intolerant person 🤪 if I had to pick one thing there... it would be the French onion soup!
