My colleagues and I, had dinner, for the first time here. The food was amazing! Our server Jimmy was outstanding. He knew the menu and was able to help us find the best options for our appetizers, wine, dinner and desserts. We definitely will be back! I spoke with all my colleagues and we’re going to do a monthly dinner here. We will be requesting Jimmy as our waiter, he definitely made our experience the best. Thank you for the great food and best waiter.

During a stay in St.Charles we had a business dinner at this restaurant. They serve original Italian dishes and add daily specials to their menus. The decor is average, the food was good and the service was ok too.
The prices are acceptable but the portions are huge. We had the linguini with seafood which was actually quite nice.

Pretty place. Busy at lunch. Seemed to be only one server. Food slightly higher then most Italian restaurants. I give it an average rating as food was fine but not exceptional. I’d go back if friends wanted to go, but I wouldn’t suggest it or go again myself. In the area Capri in Burr Ridge and Avonzare in Lombard must better choices for food, selection, taste and price.

We wanted to go somewhere special for our 40th anniversary, so we picked ZaZa's in St Charles and made a reservation for last night at 6pm through Open Table (the link from the restaurant website). At 3:30pm we got a voice mail from the restaurant that they were only doing outdoor dining because of the rise in the Covid cases. Ok, I get that. So, they don't take reservations for outdoor dining, it's first come first serve. Ok, I also get that. We got there at 6pm and were seated right away at the front of the restaurant outdoor patio. It was very noisy from motorcycles going up and down the main road (RT 64) so conversation was tricky at best. Ok, seating 6 ft apart is tricky also, so I get it. So here is were it kind of fell apart. 1). All the wait staff, etc. were wearing face masks except our waiter who was wearing a face shield-no mask. Obviously, the management was unaware that a face shield gives no protection from air borne particles when speaking, etc. A face shield is to protect the wearers eyes and skin, nothing else. He should have been wearing a mask as well. 2) Our table was the only one that was in the direct sun when it rolled around to the front of the building when we were halfway into our mean, so I asked our waiter if we could get an umbrella for a few minutes until the sun moved away. It was very hot and uncomfortable, however, his response was that he could not move any of the umbrellas around and he walked away. Perhaps he could had said "I don't think we can but I will check with the manager". And then to top it off, just before we were leaving, a women came around to the tables asking if everything was ok and when she look directly at me I shook my head "no" and she proceeded to the next table like she didn't see me. I understand we are in different times right now, but it seems like this restaurant was interested and fully invested in their customers. The food was great, the red sangria was wonderful and refreshing, but we felt there was a disconnect with customers and the purpose of proper face coverings.

Probably the worst experience we have had dining especially when it comes to resolution. We weren’t aware a dish had mushrooms and my husband is allergic. They made us pay for the dish and then said we had to reorder another item if he wanted to eat. Also said we had to take the food that HE COULD NOT eat home. We were told to give it to a family member or his mom.
General Manager pretty much refused to apologize for our experience which is GM training 101. Actually said “he doesn’t feel it is warranted” although this was also on Valentines Day and ruined our dinner.
Not worth the money nor the ignorance of the GM or Owner. Take your money anywhere else but there!

When we arrived they did not have our reservation I made previous week so we had to wait. At dinner I ordered fettuccini Alfredo and the sauce was very thin. The restaurant manager was very snarky when I complained about my food. The only person that was great was our waitress. Food wasn't great for the price.

The ambiance of this restaurant is 5 stars. They have dark and quiet, and they have well lit for family atmosphere. Just a great layout and feel. Just tell the hostess what you want. Our server was mediocre at best. He seemed like it was his first day on the job here after working a month at Buffalo Wild Wings. This restaurant is fine dining. Not overly expense, but still upper class. The food quality didn’t match the prices. I paid $31.95 for angel hair/shrimp/scallops. It was pretty bland. The scallops were seared to perfection but the pasta was meh with simply crushed plum tomatoes on it. Minimal flavor. My wife had sausage/linguini with wild mushrooms. Very good, lots of flavor in every bite. When I walked in I had high hopes of a five star restaurant. However, after the service and food it felt like a three star restaurant. So I settled in the middle with a four star rating. I’ll be back, but it might take a while for my revisit...

Ate late lunch/early dinner. Wonderful food and very nice atmosphere. Wait staff friendly and attentive. Drinks were wonderful- haven’t had a Negroni in years!! Carrot cake for dessert was moist and yummy. Ate WAY to much, but enjoyed every bite!!

Really underrated!
We had lived in St. Charles until 2001 and frequented Za Zas many times. We moved about an hour away and had not been there in over 20 years.
On our weekly date night, we thought about the Za Zas closer to us in Lake,Barribgton Shores, but decided to go back to St. Charles.
We eat out alot and usually at the finer establishments. Saturday dinner at Za Zas was "divine" as my wife called it. Not sure that is an accepted descriptor, but you get the picture.
She had the Halibut special and I the muscles; service and waitress were great; even the busboy made us laugh (I "duked" him $10). Probably the best fish she has has in a long time
Not sure why it is rated #3 in St. Charles; we put it at a solid #1

One of our go to restaurants in the area. Went on a Friday night. It was busy, but we were seated right away, and server was there in a few minutes. My wife had the rotolo, which was excellent, and I had my favorite, sausage and peppers. Restaurant is very clean, and service is always friendly. I guess my only complaint would be prices have gone up about 20% or so in the last year. Definitely must check out if in the area.

Amazing experience. Best Italian meal we have ever had. Lisa our server was polite friendly and went out of her way to make our dinner experience memorable. We will definitely make the hour drive to come back and eat there again.

All six of us had an enjoyable dinner evening. The food was very good the service was very good and the area the restaurant is located was extremely nice. In addition it’s just a short walk to the Arcada Theater.

The staff was warm and welcoming. The food was delish. We tried the homemade spinach sausage pizza and Penne Abruzzese. We had to add the parm potato’s and enjoyed it all. We will be back.

Long post!
Last night at Zaza’s we had an unfortunately very bad experience. I have been a loyal patron of the restaurant for 25 years with probably more than 100 visits. It has been one of my favorite restaurants with so many great memories.
My sister and her husband joined us for dinner and drinks prior to a concert, it was their first time there. We spent $75 at the bar then were seated. When we ordered our food my sister asked our server if we could split checks and she bluntly responded “we don’t do that and it says so on the menu”. My sister hadn’t seen that on the menu otherwise she wouldn’t have asked.
Then we ordered two appetizers. My brother in law had a late lunch and wasn’t too hungry. He wanted fried calamari, which he ate most of, basically as his entree. When we ordered dinner we told my sister the chicken dish she wanted was quite large and we wouldn’t be able to take leftovers home with us. She ordered the chicken and asked for a side plate to share a little with her husband. The server said they charge a “plate splitting fee of $5 and it says so on their menu”. *
*Now TYPICALLY in a restaurant if you split a plate with an extra fee charged, the kitchen does it for you and you typically get a slightly overall larger portion. It’s more work for the kitchen too. I definitely understand a split/share fee in high end restaurants where it is difficult to get a reservation.
My sister responded ok then don’t bring me a side plate. This must have triggered the “share plate police”. Never did we all discuss let’s save money and not get that 4th entree for Mike…he simply didn’t want to be wasteful.
We were brought our delicious entrees and Mike had a few bites of my sisters food and each of us took a taste of all three entrees.
When we were presented with our bill we observed a $5 “share plate charge”. We asked the server to remove it and were told no, it’s their policy. We asked to speak to the manager. She bluntly said “our manager is the one who told me to charge you because he was watching your table and saw you sharing the food”. I mean how WEIRD is that?!? It made us so uncomfortable as if we were trying to pull a fast one on them and they caught us in the act! 😂😒
My husband went to speak with Dino (manager/owner). My husband politely asked Dino about the charge to which he replied “it’s our policy and I have to protect the restaurant”. Further, my husband said “but you didn’t split the plate up for them, why are you charging this fee? We also ordered 2 appetizers, not just 3 entrees” Dino responded “You didn’t ASK US to split it, or we would have. You shared it though so we have to charge the fee.” He also said ordering 2 appetizers didn’t matter or change things, Mike had been seen eating some of the entree. 😳
How about a “I’ll reverse it this time as a courtesy but please know in the future this is what we do”. He honestly didn’t seem to care that we were dissatisfied - which was completely shocking to us based on all of our prior interactions with him.
Note: I personally hadn’t experienced this share policy at Zaza’s prior to last night. It’s the first time we’ve dined with someone who didn’t order an entree of their own.
To have managers monitoring/stalking tables to see if their guests are sharing an entree feels intrusive and like we were being nickled and dimed. Our table spent almost $300 in this restaurant, and it really wasn’t about an additional $5 it was about the way we were spoken to and treated. We won’t be going back. ☹️
