Chicago is a restaurant town but I didn't realize how much the phenomena stretched to the suburbs until my wife and I began sampling the culinary skills in west suburban Oak Park. Why did Ernest Hemingway ever leave this town? There are at least a...dozen restaurants of note, not the least of which is Trattoria 225. Located at 225 Harrison Street, west of Columbus Park, at Harvey Avenue, it is open from 5 to 9 Tuesday through Sunday. It covers 4,700 square feet of space with 14-foot ceilings, hardwood floors, live music and local artwork in a rustic setting with a full bar. The family friendly atmosphere is highlighted by delicious Italian fare that includes house-made pasta, seafood, wood-fired thin crust pizza, salads and gelato. We started with bowls of minestrone, grilled fresh mozzarella wrapped with prosciutto and pesto sauce and a grilled Caesar salad with romaine wedge drizzled with house-made Caesar dressing. For a main course, my wife chose crab stuffed whitefish with baked lump crab, lemon cream sauce and fresh green beans. I opted for spaghetti carbonara with grilled chicken, mushrooms, bacon, house-made spaghetti and garlic cream sauce. With meatballs. For dessert, we shared a large portion of vanilla creme brulee and a large slice of chocolate gelato layer cake with chocolate and vanilla gelato layered with brownies and ganache. No, we aren't counting calories.More

This is our “go to” Italian restaurant in Oak Park and has been just about weekly for nearly 10 years. Owner Bill Quick works hard to recruit servers who really care. His business partner/chef runs a very consistent and disciplined kitchen. The menu is interesting,...with frequent updates. The pizzas are imaginative and very tasty. The wine list is also regularly updated and reasonably priced. The dining rooms and bar are airy and spacious. They always display interesting collections of art from local artists. We really cannot recommend Trattoria 225 too highly.More

I returned here after 3 months. The spaghetti & Meatballs are still wonderful. The salad is very good and drinks are as ordered. My friend loved the salmon.

Friends introduced us to this Italian restaurant in Oak Park (Chicago western suburb). The food was superb. Great potions in formats I did not imagine - for example the wood-roasted portabella mushroom was served in a bowl smothered in cremini mushrooms, and large spinach leaves...and garlic/herbs. Gigantic portions of every dish we had (I suggest that appetizers and main courses be shared. Service was prompt and very attentive. I do not know whether there is music every night (or just Saturday) but we has a jazz duo (Andy and Morry) who were sensational. The perfect end to the evening was the baked apple pie a la mode.More

I've loved this restaurant for years for its warm atmosphere, fantastic food, its moderate prices and superb service. Little did I know how accomplished the chef and wait staff present themselves for groups! Ten of us arranged in advance for a prosecco toast for an...80th birthday gala. We arrived to glasses on the table and a chilled bottle. Individual orders? No problem --- and our waitress didn't miss a single order. Our own cake? No problem -- for a small fee, it was served with a scoop of gelato. Separate checks --- really --- for 10 people?? No problem --- and not a single error. How fortunate are we to have such a terrific restaurant in the neighborhood!More

I had the food delivered. It was my birthday and my son ordered it from California. Pear salad, Spaghetti Carbonara with Chicken, and Apple Crostata with gelato. Fabulous. Simply fabulous.

I have been here a few times in the last couple of years. My wife loves their grilled Caesar salad with chicken, but last week she had it with grilled salmon. It was excellent. I usually order the grilled salmon entree but this time I...ordered the goat cheese, pesto, tomato, and fennel sausage pizza. OMG it was awesome.More

We just held my daughter's bridal shower at Trattoria 225 and everyone had a lovely time. Everything was top-notch. The food was delicious (lemon chicken, roasted vegetable risotto, beet salad and arugula salad, and apple crostada with vanilla gelato). The servers were efficient and friendly...and the restaurant was very accommodating with set-up and decorations. The owner, Bill Quick, is easy to work with, gave us good advice and made us feel relaxed and welcome. We had over 50 guests and the restaurant actually holds a lot more, so it's a great place to hold a big event.More

Trattoria 225 in Oak Park was at one time a place to which I didn’t want to return, but that’s changed greatly. My last visit, with family, was one of the most pleasant dining experiences I’ve had. We were welcomed as we entered, and the...table service continued the welcoming experience. Our waitress was very friendly but professional, very helpful, and very accommodating without being fawning. The house Chardonnay was very pleasing. We took advantage of Tuesday’s 2 pizzas for $20 deal and thoroughly enjoyed them. We ordered the three little pigs and the goat, which complimented each other nicely. The dining rooms may be decorated in a quirky manner, but they’re comfortable and pleasing. I’m looking forward to my next visit already!More

We read some comments about this place in the Oak Park neighborhood. Italian restaurants are always welcome. We had a reservation - made a couple of hours before - at 7:45. We were surprised as we thought the place was going to be full but...it was not. Also, initially we thought it was going to be a small cozy salon, but the place is bigger than it originally looks. We liked the view of part of the open kitchen and the big oven with colorful tiles. Service was friendly and attentive. Kiddos had penne with marinara, my wife went for a pizza Margarita with anchovies and I asked the pastitsio. The kids ate all the pasta - good sign! The pizza was ok, not spectacular as the oven made us to anticipate, but was well done. The pastitsio was ok, a little bit dry. For ending we asked for a Tiramisu. It was not exactly that kind of dessert but still tasted good. In general was good the visit. You can do a relaxed dinner but just keep normal expectations.More

The spaghetti and meatballs here are 'to die for'. The menu is large and most dinners come with a salad , good dresings too. Pizza is also recommended. This is very family friendly with tablecloths and napkins!

We gave eaten here twice and enjoyed our meals, but it can be conversationally challenging. We ordered meals to be delivered in their weekly advertised dinner special. What really surprised me was that despite their chicken breast special being advertised as $16, I questioned the...$19 charge. I was told that that must be a misprint and the price was $19, and I thought that stated that should be their problem and not mine, but the guy would not back down. Poor customer service.More

Trattoria 223 is one of our regular restaurants. It is great if you have guests and want a pleasant and tasty restaurant. They specialize in wood-fired pizza, which is indeed excellent. But they also have a regular menu. The steamed mussels are very nice (appetizer,...but for 2-3). They also have several special holiday brunches, which are well worth attending. There is a lavish array of raw & cooked oysters, smoked fish, breakfast items, salads, and main dishes (and of course fruit and desserts). Not expensive especially considering the fine quality. Friendly for families with kids, but not overrun with them either.More

My wife and I have not always been fans of Trattoria 225 in Oak Park, IL, but we've come to enjoy it recently. My wife's mother loves it and invites us to join her these for dinner whenever we're in town. The menu, as another...reviewer noted, is limited, and while there are some items that I'll continue to steer away from, there are a number of dishes that I'd like to try. On our visit this past Tuesday, we took advantage of the Tuesday 2-for-1 woodfired pizza special. We love stuffed pizza and the buttery crusts that usually come with them, but we've really loved the thin crust pizzas at Trattoria with their crispy thin crusts and wonderfully flavorful ingredients. The service has also not always been great; while it wasn't great this past Tuesday, it was very good: professional, attentive and prompt. The dining room is a bit quirky with the various types of art hanging from the walls; otherwise, it's a fairly attractive pair of dining rooms. I used to avoid going to Trattoria 225, but I'm looking forward to our next visit when we return to Oak Park, especially if it's a Tuesday.More
