We had a great dinner with with Friends right before the Corona Virus stopped us from going out. The Little Gem had a very interesting menu and a charming location. We started with some casual conversation and were asked for our drink order which came...out rather late. Our round of appetizers included: Caesar salad, Red & Golden Beet Salad and the Burrata Cheese plate... The Cheese plate was not really described appropriately and was a disappointment to the table which planned on sharing that appetizer. Our mains consisted of: the Australian Sea Bass Special, Caribbean Sea Bas and the Orecchetti Pasta. The special was quite good and the portions generous. The Pasta was fine but uninspiring. Unfortunately, we never saw the server again and didn't have an opportunity to order wine with our meal :-( The Cookie Skillet was a great end of the meal surprise and everyone at the table enjoyed their tasting. The Chocolate Mousse was less enticing. Overall we had a nice dinner... But our server was not attentive, absent at best and not helpful when we interacted. The Little Gem has some great food to offer - but the service experience will make us pass the next time we think about dining out.More

It was late afternoon, my wife and I had spent the best part of 2 hours touring the Frank Lloyd Wright houses and were keen to find something to eat. Just by chance we stumbled across The Little Gem restaurant. What a stroke of luck....Delightfully friendly service and delicious food.More

I was here for lunch with a group of Oak Park business people. The food was very good, especially the velvety creamy chocolate mousse. The atmosphere has an elegant European feel.

Yes, at 3 p.m. we were informed that the restaurant started serving dinner! Well since we already have been sited and had a glass of water it felt awkward to go and look for some other place. A big mistake. I ordered a hummus platter...and the veggies looked like they were leftover from the night before. Service was good but didn't care or do anything about the old veggies when we spoke up. High price low quality. Greed is a sad and terrible thing.More

There was a piece of plastic in my filet mignon, and for that we will never be back. Our busboy was apologetic, the server was attentive, but my filet contained plastic.

Who doesn’t love a $5 mimosa? This salad is Pan seared chicken over salad and is incredible with mixed greens, tomato, cranberries, apples and honey mustard dressing. The honey mustard dressing is the best honey mustard dressing I’ve ever tasted. It’s incredibly delicious. I love...coming for lunch or brunch for this salad and the dressing! Everyone who works here goes out of their way to make sure you are taken care of. The owner Judith is the most hospitable friendly and thoughtful person and another reason to keep coming back!More

My husband and I recently dined at Little Gem for brunch. My food was really good; his not so much. I started with the Red & Golden Beet salad, which was delicious, especially because of the goat cheese and an excellent champagne vinaigrette dressing. I...then had the roasted deboned half chicken, which arrived at the table straight from the kitchen, with crispy skin, an excellent lemon based sauce and wedges of roasted potatoes & carrots. On the other hand, both of my husband's courses arrived at the table at a tepid temperature and were lacking in flavor. He surmised that the kitchen had turned off or reduced the heat under their pot of cream of mushroom soup as it was late in the day and it was getting to thick; also underseasoned. For his main course, he opted for Eggs Benedict Florentine with Salmon. Again, not hot enough, and needed seasoning. Especially given the underseasoning of both courses, it would help if the restaurant included salt & pepper shakers on the table, so diners did not have to request them. Service was pleasant and efficient.More

We stopped here for a quick bite one sunny afternoon and were happy we did even though there was nothing quick. It seemed that they were short-staffed -- but we were patient and had no pressing plans. We both ordered salads -- I had the...Caesar Salad with Salmon and a cup of vegetable bean soup. We shared the honey roasted brussels sprout. The caesar dressing was light and not overbearing, the croutons were homemade, fresh romaine. The salmon was seasoned ever so gently so to not clash with the dressing. The soup du jour I had was most flavorful - served hot -- I put a few of the croutons from the salad in the soup which kicked the soup up a few notches! The brussels sprouts were delicious and plentiful. I recommend The Little Gem for lunch -- just give yourself extra time.More
