Shinto is hands down the best Japanese option in Chicago land. Awesome sushi rolls and great hibachi and it has really high ceilings over the hibachi area and must have great ventilation as it fails to have that typical hibachi smell. We’ve been there many times and Enrique has been our favorite server with Juan as our favorite Hibachi chef that are both able to handle the variety of dietary restrictions and allergies we have at our 2 family dinners. My wife loves the veggie fried rice and sushi, my kids loves the noodles and teriyaki chicken, I love the various steak options including chateubriande and the rest. Great option for dinner with the family.

I was meeting a friend who also likes Japanese food so we decided to try Shinto off of 59. Yes, you have to turn off of North Aurora and drive past an enormous car wash but it is so worth it. Menu includes sushi (traditional, special, unique), bento boxes, sashimi, etc and cooked food at your table on the other side of the restaurant at the Hibachi tables which serve 8-10 people. My server Aidan was so helpful in describing various types of sushi, degrees of spicy and he was spot on. Food was delicious and when my friend had to leave in a hurry, he packed the remainder of her meal to help her speedily get out. All the staff was very helpful to others. PLAN ON A VISIT!

Our family of 13 (3 generations) have made Shinto our Christmas Eve tradition for the past seven or eight years, missing only last year. It is the grandparents gift to the family and they thoroughly enjoy it. Service has always been impeccable, food varied and delicious, and they accommodate our early reservation so we can all attend church. Highly recommended

I visited with my daughter and her friend and had a great time. The food was outstanding, the hibachi check personable and talented, and drinks were a good value. I had the chicken and shrimp while my dinner partners had the steak and shrimp. Everything was cooked and seasoned well. As we were celebrating a birthday, we shared the birthday dessert

This was our first trip to Shinto. The food was great, as was the atmosphere. Three of us had sushi and two had other Asian dishes. We liked everything. The service was good, but we had an issue with the bill. The other three paid cash, and we paid with our credit card. Instead of deducting the cash payment from our part of the bill, they added it to the bill. Good thing I checked it! But they fixed it right away.

This was a great dinner and family friendly. It is best to make reservations ahead especially on the weekend. The grandkids had a blast with the table side chef.

My family has frequented Shinto many times over the years. On occasion we have hosted large and small family parties taking up to 3 Hibachi tables at a time. On February 24, 2024 I called at 5:30p to make reservations for 3. I can only assume that the person who answered the phone thought I was looking for reservations right away because she immediately responded with "We have no reservations available right now". I responded with "oh no", then she says we wont have any availability till 8pm and I responded with "that would be perfect" as this was the time we wanted the reservation for initially. Upon our arrival we were joyfully greeted by hostess and she knew my name immediately when I said we had reservations for 3 at 8p. Since she knew my name without me saying it, I presumed she was the person that I made reservations with on the phone. She said it was actually her coworker, standing next to her, that I had spoken to. I thanked her for making the reservation. They told us to wait by the tropical fish aquarium until our table was available. It bears mentioning, that the aquarium in the past was kept very clean. On this day the tank smelled very bad and the water was a bit murky. As I'm a tropical fish hobbyist myself, I could see that there were very small babies in the tank which was possibly why they had not done a deep clean. Here is where it starts to get interesting. While waiting about 10 minutes at the aquarium for our table, a group of 3 people came in who appeared to not have reservations based on conversation I overheard. However they were taken to a Hibachi table within 1 minute. A few minutes later the hostess that I initially made reservations with, took us to our table. We sat down and got our menus and she said someone would be with us shortly to take our drink order. We could see another table that had a group of 3 people that arrived after us, were sitting by themselves reviewing the menu. Within a couple of minutes the hostess came back to our table, apologizes and tells us the table is broken and we will need to move to another table. I thought it was strange that she even offered to get her manager in case we were upset. We said no need for a manager especially since the table is broken. She promptly guided us to another table where another group of 4 were at. We were not sitting for no more than 1 minute, when we noticed a party of 5 were being sat at our original table that was so-called broken. Our waitress comes to our new table to take our drink order and acknowledged she witnessed us moving tables earlier. She offered us discount on our meal which I appreciated. We did let know her know that we were disappointed that we were unnecessarily told a "tale" about table being broken in order for us to move tables. Fast forward our hibachi chef arrives at the table and reviews orders with each individual at our table. As my wife normally does, she explains that she wants extra garlic butter and lemon on her entrée while it is being cooked. The chef tells us that we need to request lemons from our waitress and he "does not have lemons" available for food preparations. At our request our waitress does bring us some garnish styled lemon wedges in a bowl with ice. As the chef is preparing the entrees he must have discovered he has lemon halves in his cart that he starts using for food preparation. The chef glares at me presuming he can see the look of bewilderment on my face of him having lemons and me pointing at the lemons to my wife. While the food is still cooking he asked how many extra garnish style lemon wedges she wants used on her food. She said just a few. Then he acts as if he does not understand what she was asking for based his facial expression and how he was gesturing his hands. So I say in his presumed primary language that she wanted 4. He appeared to then get frustrated with my response because he starts taking the 4 garnish wedges one by one flicking ice from the bowl onto my plate and on the table. Although it was not necessary, our waitress had discounted our entire bill which again I truly appreciated. We explained in detail to her that it was truly a very disappointing experience. Although the food was not the best of quality and taste as we have received numerous times before from Shinto, we still left a very nice tip on the bill. We can only wish that the tip would not to be shared with chef or the hostess that told the tale about the table being broken. If this was our first experience here, we would never step foot in this establishment ever again nor would we patronage them again with their food delivery services.

We have eaten here but also have ordered to pick up a couple of times. The sashimi platter dinner comes with soup and salad. The fish is fresh and delicious. Very inexpensive for what you get. We love it. It is now our go to take out

I'm not a local any longer but when I'm in town I look forward to going to Shinto with my daughter's family. We've always been very happy with the excellent quality of the food, the show, and the service. This last time we had the most wonderful experience... the chef was so talented and made it so much fun! He had the best sense of humor and my 9 yr old granddaughter really enjoyed it (and devoured the steak but still had room for ice cream!) And he is by far the most skilled showman I've seen. I've enjoyed a good Japanese steakhouse often including the wonderful performance that comes with the food preparation but this chef was exceptional and magical! I can't say enough about how wonderful the food was. We ordered a wonderful assortment of sushi rolls and sashimi and they were very flavorful and fresh. Our hibachi choices were the Imperial Feast (lobster, filet, and scallops -mmmmm!) and steak & chicken. Both were wonderful and perfectly prepared! I will say that we don't care for the onion soup and opt to get the miso which is delicious. When I return to Illinois, Shinto is always the first place that comes to mind when we want a nice and special meal!
