Atmosphere, clean and great food. Staff was friendly. Lunch time prices were very affordable. Home made pastries.

Excellent Chinese

We originally wanted to go back to the first Chinese restaurant on trip advisor that we went to last time in the area, but they weren’t open till later. So we picked this one. It was even better! The Mongolian Beef was probably the best we have ever had. We will definitely be back when we are in the area!

Great dinner delivered to my home

just wanted some Chinese food and was not sure where to go. Went to China Chef and the menu was great. Ordered appetizers, Egg Foo Yong, and entrees with both chicken and beef. All food was fresh and absolutely delicious. Delivered very carefully with all containers wrapped in plastic, so no leakage of the special sauces. Would highly recommend this restaurant carry out.

Shrimp dish had shrimp with the vein still in it!!

I had a curry shrimp dinner at this place! Even though the taste was good, I found that the shrimp had not been deveined! When I brought this to the attention of the manager, he shrugged his shoulders muttering “sorry, sorry” and walked away! No one offered to replace the meal which I had begun to eat or any other sort of accommodation! I’ll never eat here again!!

Poor service ordered 2 from the lunch menu one shrimp and one beef kow. Shrimp order delivered for my wife and my order beef kow came in my wife is almost finished went my order come in.

A solid place to have dinner, or to do take-out

We were in Morton Grove and decided to have dinner at China Chef. We were seated immediately and were brought tea and menus. We decided to go with something different, rather than two big entrees. We asked for the China Chef appetizer with four tasty ribs, 4 skewers of satay beef, two very large eggrolls and four pieces of crab Rangoon. Though the menu actually listed chicken fingers, we were brought the crab Rangoon because they were out of chicken fingers. It did seem like a lot of food, but being just a big hungry, we decided on a single regular entree with no extras. We chose the shrimp and walnuts. There were enough large shrimp on a bed of lettuce, along with a large cup of white rice. The shrimp were hot and tasty, and the walnuts added a nice taste and crunch. The total price was reasonable. The service was efficient. While there, we noticed a good deal of take-out traffic.

I have been meeting people at eating at China Chef on Tuesday's for over 2 years now . We meet for lunch and I have tried most of the lunch menu items. To this day I have not found a bad or mediocre item, Mike our waiter is excellent as are the people who take his place when he is on vacation. The cashiers are friendly and likable. I would recommend the Egg Foo Young as there is enough for two meals., the Pancite there are quite a few shrimp in it. Try it !!!

Excellent variety. Food came out hot and fresh. The Mongolian beef was really good. I ordered it extra spicy and it came out just right. The egg rolls came out fresh. The service is fast and friendly and they recognize you if you have been there before. Highly recommend this place

Spectacular lunches and dinners

Always lunch specials, and a good variety. Free parking, just on Lincoln Avenue north side just East of Austin. A large menu, ask they will help you choose. Alcohol available. Also Bubble drinks!

First time at China Chef, great portions, reasonable prices & excellent service

We had seen China Chef several times on our way to and from home, and we had never tried it, so we opted to try it today. Located just east of Austin Ave. on Lincoln Ave. in Morton Grove, it is very easy to access the parking lot and get back on Lincoln Ave. There is plenty of room in the parking lot. When you enter, you are greeted by a fish tank with three huge koi in it. We were seated immediately and Ivy, our server, was there quickly with our menus and water and hot tea. A lot of the patrons in the restaurant seemed to know each other and the staff actually recognized many of the patrons, as well. We ordered the crab Rangoon (aka fried crab meat won ton on the menu). It was quite a big order. There is a huge selection on the menu and for a very reasonable amount, for a full dinner, you can add a bowl of soup, an egg roll and egg foo young. We opted to get one dinner with the extras and one without. Our two entrees were the China Chef fried rice and the other was the beef with pepper and onions. The soup was very good. The egg roll was huge. And both entrees were also more than ample portions. The beef was very tender and tasty. The only thing that I didn't think was really good was the egg foo young, though it's possible that I don't usually get that and maybe I just didn't know what to expect. Our server, Ivy, was very attentive and personable and she actually boxed up the food to take home. The total price was quite reasonable, especially with the amount of food that we took home, probably for at least three additional meals. China Chef will definitely be on our list of places to return.

Chinese Philippine cuisine

Good food with a twist on Chinese cuisine. Moo Shu Pork is tasty. Service always great. Their pork chow mein coupled with egg rolls is a good combo.

Best Chinese

Been coming here since the opened back in the 70’s. Some of the most consistent Chinese food around. Best egg rolls and hot and sour soup. Quality ingredients and noce cuts of beef. Never so chewy thatyou have to spit it into your napkin. Only negative is the bathroom, kinda decrepit and strong soap or air freshener smell. Try the Mongolian chicken or beef. Almond pressed duck is my go to choice.

Finally found a good Chinese Restaurant

Having lacked a good Chinese restaurant in the Northbrook area, We've found China Chef in Morton Grove, Il. Always busy and very good food and a large variety, even Phlilipino items.

Great food and excellent service!

Maybe it was because we were there on a weeknight and the restaurant wasn’t too crowded but we were greeted warmly when we entered and were seated promptly and were well taken care of the entire visit by multiple waitstaff members. Our tea and water were brought just after we sat down. We ordered appetizers first (egg rolls were outstanding). Then we had some won ton soup and the large size was fine as a starter for six of us having one bowl each. The waitress served the soup so it was evenly divided. It was delicious! We shared dishes family style. The vegetables were all fresh and crisply prepared. We asked to add some soft tofu to a chicken dish and it wasn’t a problem. We tried some chow fun for a noddle dish and it was delicious. The steamed fish fillets were a highlight as was the walnut shrimp. We can’t wait to go back!

Food Failure

We were very disappointed in our lunch today. We asked for crispy noodles and they were stale. The server denied they were old. My husband's meal was over salted and the shrimp lacked taste. My lunch, also oversalted, was lackluster. We will no longer visit this restaurant!
