The service was exceptionally friendly and fast. Server was knowledgeable and helpful. The food was incredible. You get what you pay for.

I went there for the first time tonight and ordered my favorite meal, Steak Diane! What I receive was a mess of cut up left over meat that was unidentifiable with mushrooms' and I don't know what! Nothing that resembled Steak Diane or even steak!!...The manager was called when I asked the waitress about it and she said it was how the cook makes it. I was totally dumbfounded. What kind of explanation was that!?! It didn't resemble any Steak Diane I have ever seen! This is all after waiting over half an hour to even get our salad! No offer to give us a different meal, finally they did offer to comp the meal. but no apology. I will never go back.More
We took a brief getaway before the CoVid lockdown. Not knowing what to do we came to the door which was closed. We knocked and were cordially greeted with paper menus with a large selection of items and told to mark off our choices. Everything...was double checked and our credit card taken and asked for a pick up time. All was ready on time and walked to our vehicle. At the hotel our food was still piping hot and cooked to perfection. We ordered an entrée of Jambalaya to share as an appetizer it had a nice spice to it and included mussels. It was served over fettucine but perhaps rice and beans would have been a better option. The veal shank was tasty and served with real mashed potatoes. My steak was done perfectly medium with mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus and lightly seasoned. Bread and butter would have been a nice inclusion but maybe it was just forgotten with all this carry out only establishments were subjected to at the very last minute. Prices were great for what we ordered. We were so pleased we chose the Morris Chop Shop and thank all who helped us with this new carry out fine dining adventure!More
Morris is a small-ish town where word-of-mouth rules. We had heard that the "steak house downtown" was very expensive so "everybody" stayed away because of that. Yep, that means I'm going. Just cause. Well, if you get a filet mignon it is expensive (for Morris)...but it's a reasonable price for that steak in a steak house. It is not overpriced. What I did find is a full menu with very appropriate pricing on a range of other dishes. It is not an expensive restaurant at all! There's also an attached bar area with tables for more casual dining. Same great menu. Nancy and I liked it so much we went back again during our short visit to Morris. The food is outstanding, the wine list is very-very good (up to bottles from Orin Swift) the service was very good, great ambience and the restaurant was not crowded either time we went. ......and I have NO idea why not. Morris, if this fine dining restaurant folds (just like the one that was there before) because you "heard it was expensive" then you will have lost a real gem in downtown. GO!More
Went here last night on cruise night and was told it’s an hour wait to be seated in general dining area. There were tables in the bar and we asked if those were available and was told yes. We sat down at 7 pm got...drinks and waitress took our order. Got our drinks, appetizer and salad within 15 min after taking our order. 55 min later I asked our waitress where our order is and she said it hadn’t been started yet and it would be another half hour. We were beyond upset and said we would’ve never sat down at the bar knowing it would take 1.5 hrs to get our meal. We asked for our bill and weren’t even given an apology by the hostess who gave incorrect information. I worked at a restaurant for 10 years as a hostess and waitress and Chop House dropped the ball big time. If you are charging for expensive meals as steaks and chops, you better have a system providing service for the patrons.More
Celebrated my birthday here. We came to Morris because of the camping and Starved Rock location. Who would figure a very upscale steakhouse would be is a small town near our camping site. There was 4 of us and arrived around 4:30. Waitress was great......so sorry...I forget her name. Very good , high quality, fresh, food !!! My steak was wonderful, over Rissotto with farm fresh carrots and potato. SO DARN DELCIOUS. !!!! My fellow diner (who paid for the meal ) steak was not cooked correct and for the price here it needed too be. The steak was taken back happily and a new steak was brought back and was just right. Very nice atmosphere and clean bathrooms. My birthday choice for dessert was Key lime Cheesecake and it came with a candle and whip cream.....this was THE BEST KEY LIME PIE I ever had !!! This was a wonderful evening out in a unexpected dining experience !!!!! PSSS... we dressed casual but I think we were under dressed.....shorts and T-shirts.(camping)More
We haven’t been there since it changed ownership a few years ago. The property itself looks amazing and is still very well-kept. The service was outstanding and we wanted for nothing. The food was very good but I was disappointed in the candied bacon... I’ve...never left a piece of bacon on a plate in my entire life and I actually could not eat it because it was so sugary and spicy. My wife’s entrée was outstanding and I opted for a couple different appetizers which are all very good. We will definitely be back when visiting the Morris area.More
Four stars for the food; one star for the service. Food was good and prepared well, but overpriced. Table service was very slow and the staff are disrespectful. Here is why you get 1 star: the entrees come with two sides dishes - but you...cannot make a choice = you get what they dictate. I asked for an exception due to the fact that I could not eat the two sides as I have dietary restrictions. I was told "no". All I wanted was a side of lettuce with oil/vinegar instead of the steamed vegetables and rice sides and was told - you have to pay for the lettuce - NO SUBSTITUTIONS! Really?? I was not about to pay their extravagant "lettuce" charge so told them to not bring me any sides at all (they would go to waste). So guess what, they charged me for the sides anyway!! Complete rip off.More
Went for lunch, both had burgers and we both agreed it was the best burgers we have had in a while. Was hesitant going in in jeans and hoodies. But once inside others were dressed the same. Another visit, we had dinner. I had a...filet and it was so tender. A little pricey but worth it. Very clean, staff is friendly.More
We visited the Chop House , yet again this time for Mother’s Day dinner. The ambiance couldn’t have been more conducive to easy listening , quiet family conversations mixed in with a multitude of “ hmmm, that sounds great”. My spouse had her favorite the...Ahi Tuna and it was prepared to her liking as she savored every bite. My son had beautifully prepared prime rib, done to perfection and his fiancé had the chicken carbonara. I selected the double pork chop , bone in - something outside my usual go to if the NY Strip steak. I was not disappointed in that selection. The marvelously pink centered chop was so tender I was pleasantly surprised. This meal met our expectations and then some. It’s well worth the drive to find it and you will not be disappointed.More
It was my Dad’s birthday, Mother’s Day, and my parents anniversary. Our food was wonderful! The service was impeccable and well worth the value. This is a great restaurant!
We went with another couple for my birthday. The restaurant recently changed ownership, but as promised, it seems that most things have stayed the same. Our service was actually much better this time, as compared to under prior management. Our server was, in fact, excellent!...Drinks and food were excellent, as well. We will continue to return!More
We had a marvelous experience at Morris Chop House. Had a great table for us ready when promised. Meal selection is by far the most expansive In the area for a well balanced selection of meats, chicken & fish. I chose a N.Y. Strip with...a side of the mushroom risotto ( I highly recommend you try ). Portions on the sides made it easy for all of us to have a taste of the wonderful goodness their chef created that night. My wife had the Ahi Tuna, which is her favorite here. All done with attention to details that is unprecedented for this area. Prices were in line with the fine dinning experience we enjoyed and there wasn’t 1 complaint from our group. Thank you Jackie & Tim for your fine hospitality.More
I wouldn’t advise anyone eat at this restaurant in a group. We had a group of 12 for dinner this evening. They wouldn’t split the bill for us so we could pay individual per family. Therefore, one of us had to pay the entire bill...of food and drinks and has to collect cash from each of us. Food was overpriced for what you get and service was terrible. The waitress said they couldn’t take separate cards to pay the bill. The manager then came over and said she would take separate cards but would add a 20% gratuity to the bill. Needless to say this unsatisfied customer will not be back to this place. Staff and management are rude, bathrooms were out of toilet paper and when we asked for toilet paper the waitress didn’t come back, food was less than satisfactory.More
