Four of us went here to eat this evening. We arrived a few minutes prior to their posted opening time of 5:30. At 5:36 they had not opened and were not answering their phone, so we decided to drive somewhere else. As we were starting...the car, they unlocked the door and we sat down at 5:37. WE WERE NOT SERVED OUR DINNERS UNTIL 2 HOURS LATER, at 7:40!!!! Obviously, we were the first people in the restaurant. 2 other couples came in after us, and one take out order was completed. They were not busy at all! So why did it take over 2 hours to get our dinners????????????? Why?????????????? The first problem was ordering appetizers. They didn't have the ingredients for the first 2 that we ordered, so at about 5:45 we ordered won ton soup and hot and sour soup. IT TOOK ONE FULL HOUR TO BE SERVED OUR SOUP!!!!!!!!! While both soups were very good, how can it possibly take a full hour to get soup? How is that possible? I attempted to order Pad Thai. It came with chicken, but beef, pork and shrimp were offered at the top of the menu page as substitutes for the chicken for an up charge. I requested pork. The server returned after a few minutes and said I could not get Pad Thai with pork. I asked if they were out of pork. The server said no, but the cook refused to cook Pad Thai with pork -- only chicken or shrimp had the proper flavors. I ordered a seafood stir fry. The others ordered an Asian salad, a curry and a noodle dish. These orders were put in around 5:55 or so. We did not get our meals until 7:40. One of the 2 other couples in the restaurant walked out after waiting over an hour for their food as they had purchased tickets to a movie. The food was quite good -- good quality ingredients and very nice flavors, BUT waiting over 2 hours for a dinner in an almost empty restaurant is something I will only do once. I will never return to Thai Gourmet, and I would urge you to stay away as well.More

My wife and I like sushi. So we have visited many of the Sushi restaurants in the area. When we went to Thai Gourmet, I ordered a Spicy Tuna roll. When it was served to me, I could have put the amount of spicy tuna...in the roll in a teaspoon. It was very sparse. That was it for me. We had gone there from time to time earlier, and several times before I felt they were stingy with the amount of fish used in their rolls.More

Do you go any place new for the first time without checking TripAdvisor first? I sure don't! The owner's in the store—he greets you the same way he thanks you when you depart, with prayerful hands and a little bow. Meals here feel like a...personal transaction between him and you, and that makes them special. The restaurant itself is not much—clean, but dimly lit, a storefront in a strip mall. The menu (at least at lunch) contained about a dozen options, including various curries and noodle dishes, along with many suggestions about what you should NOT do and should NOT expect. (Although there are doggy bags offered, there is no take-out.) You will be asked to select your level of hotness for most dishes. There are no fewer than six levels offered—from nothing, all the way to "Thai hot." I chose the fourth option: "hot." To my taste, it could have been hotter. I judge every Thai place first with the signature dish, the Pad Thai. Having never been to Thailand, I wonder if what I was served today was closer to the "real thing" than what I receive in most other Thai restaurants. No one flavor predominated—not the peanuts nor the peanut sauce, nor the scallions or spices—it melded together nicely—the noodles where perfectly al dente, the chicken a little chewy. The taste was, well, how shall I categorize it? A little funky, I guess (which leads me to believe it is an authentic recipe—not one dumbed down for Western tastes.) I liked it, but, being uninitiated in "Thai-Cuisine-Truth," I can't admit to loving it. But absolutely worth the visit. NO CREDIT CARDS—cash only.More

This family owned restaurant is a gem. The food was fantastic, the room was classy (even though the restaurant is hidden in a strip mall), and the staff is so polite and helpful. After a long day of travel we were so happy to have...a great meal that was close to our hotel. We highly recommend this place!More

My husband and I dined here together. We were the only people there the entire hour so we were well taken care of. The green curry was very good. We did not care for the chicken wing appetizer. We each enjoyed Tsing Tao beers! They...only accept cash for payment so be prepared. BMore

The only reason this is not ranked higher is because people may not know about it. This truly is authentic Thai cuisine made fresh by the owner (mother). When you talk to the adorable husband who greets everyone, you feel like you are in their...home. My husband and I have probably tried the majority of the menu. Everything is flavorful and not "filled" with cabbage like some of the other neighboring restaurants. The family members who run it are so respectful, friendly and kind. They truly care about the experience and dishes. Some of the dishes are ordered a day in advance because of how elaborate the preparation is. The combination makes us bring our business here time and again.More

It's hard not to like eating here. The meals are well prepared with the option for most of the meals' to have "heat" from 0 to 5 stars. The jasmine rice is perfectly done every time. Servers are attentive and polite. We do carry out...as often as we eat here. They serve liquor. And, they do not accept credit cards. The prices are a little high particularly when considering that the portions are not that large though the endless supply of rice does help. Sometimes the owner is a little too polite. Quiet and subdued atmosphere. But, those are small things when balanced against the taste of the food. There is no better Thai restaurant we have found in Lake County. A must try if you like Thai.More

Trying to find a good Thai restaurant in the far north suburbs has been a challenge. While there are a few places that are worth trying, I am so glad we discovered Thai Gourmet! We've been there a handful of times and have never seen...it crowded which I don't understand. The owners are a husband and wife. The husband greets you and takes your order while the wife cooks. You can see the pride from both of them as the wife often comes out to check on how your food was. The only downside is that it's cash only so it's harder to go there on a whim if you don't have cash with you, but it's worth the trip. I feel bad every time I see an empty restaurant when we go. I have to assume we are just eating at unpopular times. Restaurant is clean, food is delicious. Yum!More

Best Thai restaurant in the Chicagoland region. This is a restaurant we go to often. Food is authentic, fresh and consistently delicious.. It is owned and operated by a Thai couple who take pride in every aspect of their brines. It is a cash only...operation and frequently is not busy for this reason but call for reservations if you have a larger group.. We have guests from out of state who always request this restaurant on visits to Illinois. Everything is home made. You won't be disappointed.More

The service is "Thai relaxed", meant to enable you to rest and relax while you contemplate which amazingly delicious starter iron entree to order. I know Thai food well, and this us authentic, down to kafir limes and Thai basil. Love Tom Kai, green curry,...and chicken satay....this is great comfort food, well prepared and graciously served.More
