After eat there pizza as a carry out we came here and enjoyed a traditional Italian meal which was above average, with some reservations..... Definitely an old school establishment, a bit crowded and noisy, dated furnishings and booth cushions, but some very good drinks and...food! The drinks were generous pours and we had a spunky waitperson..... given the salad or soup with pasta side that comes with the entrees, we skipped apps. Salads were average with little more than iceberg lettuce and a few toppings. The minestrone soup was good but my bowl seemed half full? Lasagna with bolognese very good, as was the huge portion of chicken Marsala. My chicken parmigiana was very thin breasts nicely cooked with a pleasing sauce and cheese topping... one of the best I’ve enjoyed. The barbecue salmon was also great.... BUT, the side pasta was limp watery spaghetti in sauce..... the side rice equally underwhelming and for some reason we were never asked if we’d like another drink..... lost revenue there. Our friends had eaten there years ago and were pleased with their return as were we on our first visit..... they could use some updating without changing the ambiance..... nice dinner.More

go there often and never disappointed. Even with new ownership they maintain the high standards of quality and service. Always friendly and cooperative to make the dinner time a success.

I should note that we have been coming here for years, and it has been our favorite place to eat for all that time. I knew something wasn't right the moment I walked in. The former manager under the previous owner, and a gem of...managerial ability, was tending bar. I later learned that he had been demoted by the new owner, who was now "managing." I also noted that only one of the long-standing wait staff was still there. The new staff was very polite and eager, but obviously rushed and unfamiliar with the restaurant and the menu. We ordered the clam chowder soup, which was excellent and up to previous standards. Then the pizza arrived. This used to be the best pizza on the north shore, bar none. Now, comparing it to a popular brand of frozen pizza from the grocery store, the frozen pizza wins—not even a contest. The crust was overdone, the sauce weak, and it looked as though the toppings had been flung on in a hurry—not well distributed. If there was any cheese other than mozzarella on it (parmesan, romano) there was not enough to taste. We had ordered fresh garlic as a topping, there was no garlic flavor. The flavor of the sausage was very mild, at best. Next, the entrees: "Hay and Straw" for my wife and lasagne for me. My wife said the Hay and Straw was okay, but lacked something compared with earlier experience. My lasagne was terrible. It arrived as a slumped mass, the top covered with mozzarella that looked and had a texture like it had been reheated. The noodles were not al dente, but slightly tough. The meat sauce was oily or greasy. The serving was surrounded by a puddle of oil or liquid grease. The meat had little flavor, not even seasonings. I found no trace of ricotta cheese, either by appearance or flavor. Again, comparison with a frozen, packaged lasagne leaves this dish wanting. We spoke to a couple seated at a table next to us. The lady had sent her eggplant parmesan back. The man had a nearly untouched plate of chicken marsala in front of him, which he also sent away. They then ordered a small pizza. His comment was that he would not leave the place hungry. When we left, I asked to speak to the owner. I told him that whatever he had changed, he should change back. He kept insisting that nothing had changed, when it was very obvious that a great deal had. I said that if things did not improve on our next visit, we would never come back. He replied, "Is that a threat?" Not willing to play such a silly game, I looked him right in the eye and said, "No, it's a promise." His reply: "Fine, don't come back! I don't need you!" Very aggressive, no apology, no consideration. If this is the way he treats dissatisfied customers, he soon won't have any. We won't be back. His competitors will get our businessMore

Went here for a birthday celebration on a Sunday - made a reservation but not sure if we needed one. The hostess, our server, and busser were all very, very friendly! Didn't see a manager on the floor the entire night though. There was another...server who made it known by some of her comments and facial expressions that things such as table arrangements, party size, or even the orders from customers were a problem for her. She didn't seem to be having the best night and unfortunately the negative energy carried. But everyone else on the staff seemed to be having a great time! The food was delicious. Although it took a while, it was all really, really great. The entrees were a nice size portion. Shrimp cocktail is kind of a rip-off, but otherwise, it doesn't seem you can go wrong with any of the Italian dishes. Definitely get something that has their marinara on it. By all means, skip the fish. I had a baked "martini" whitefish, and I hate to say it, but it was actually awful. Ridiculously salty and lemony..so skip that and everything else is great! Chicken Parmesan, Eggplant dish, grilled calamari, meatballs, SO good! Would love to go back and try some more, especially the pizza, but probably as carry-out. They weer also kind enough to bring out a delicious slice of birthday cake!More

Quaint restaurant with impeccable service and excellent food. Our table ordered eggplant parm, chicken parm and chicken calabrese (lemon, olive oil, white wine and herbs/spices)...really yummy. Generous portions, enough to bring home a doggy bag. New owner since May 31, 2019. Highly recommend this venue.

Visiting up north friends brought in pizza and salad and we were pleasantly surprised. The pizza is four stars while the salads we had were very unremarkable and average..... Thin pizza with a slightly sweet sauce was great.... sausage was delicious but could’ve used a...bit more. Veggie pizza also was well received despite spinach, not my choosing. With so many nearby pizza options including Piero’s in HP, I doubt we’d order in from here again... but would be open to eating their Italian food in their restaurant.More
