Despite our excitement about the chocolate theme, we were uniformly disappointed by our meal. Our butternut squash flatbread was undercooked and unappealing (hard squash bits, uncarmelized brussel sprouts, doughy bread). And our chocolate cake was only average. The ganache was okay, but the cake itself...was on the dry side. The highlight was the bread basket, which contained rolls with a soft chocolate center and chocolate butter, but overall we had hoped for more.More

What a great experience! Our server Zachary gave excellent cocktail recommendations and provided wonderful service. The food was simply amazing, and the butternut squash soup was well worth the drive! A great place for a memorable dinner, even on a random Thursday evening.

Went here on a whim on a Saturday without reservations. We were sat quickly at our table. All of the food is fresh and farm to table. Roberto was our server and he was awesome. My daughter who is a picky eater, enjoyed her chicken...strips and French fries even though they weren’t made the traditional way. My husband had salmon and I had filet. Both were great. Ambiance was lovely. They were cognizant of my dietary concerns. Would definitely eat here again.More

Really neat place - intimate setting, good service, food was great with a cocoa flair. My daughter devoured the bread which included chocolate butter! Try the Baked Alaska for dessert - you won’t be sorry.

I made reservations for 2PM on a Sunday through the on line reservation service and also received a confirmation email and text. When we arrived at 2PM it was dark and no one was around and the sign on the door said Sunday it closed...at 2PM. What was disappointing was when I reached out to the Chocolate Sanctuary I was told they were waiting for us and they were open to 3PM. Well that was not true and the person who responded didn't even spell my name correctly, obviously didn't care. It's been a while since we've eaten there and have always enjoyed the place but I will not be going back there - obviously they are not concerned about me as a customer. Sandi SpellmanMore

We arrived at 9:45am thinking they opened earlier but even though they didn’t open until 10 they seated us. How nice of them to accommodate us!! The brunch was delicious and the staff was so incredibly kind. It was an excellent experience for our whole...family.More

Fantastic dinner. We quickly changed clothes from visiting Six Flags: Great America, and was pleasantly told that it was the county's restaurant week, with a pre-fixe three course dinner, based around their regular menu. The squash soup, salmon/NY strip, and the slice of heaven/the beignet...were exceptional. The service was great, even on this busy night. And, the atmosphere is sophisticated, inviting, and relaxing. I doubt if there are too many park goers who visit, but switch into a polo or touch up the make-up, and enjoy a good meal. As for anyone else, just go to a cool place that has regular and chocolate infused bread service (with even chocolate infused butter). Live on the wild side and enjoy a Mexican inspired chicken mole or other food items that have a snip of chocolate decadence!More

We made reservations and went in on a Thursday night. The food was amazing. The only thing that was awkward was that our server didn’t make eye contact at all and seemed quite annoyed with us. We tipped well and didn’t give any problems with...our order or complications. The server makes part of the experience and she was not the nicest or close to friendly waitress. Food was great.More

We have not been in a restaurant since Covid began. Tonight, fully vaccinated and masked we decided to go to our favorite restaurant. And it totally met our expectations. Sticky ribs appetizer delicious. The rolls with chocolate butter, creamy butternut squash soup, fab salad and...mahi mahi. And all staff masked, gloved, and customers spaced. Careful, clean, so friendly. Hailey, the pastry chef is super talented and helpful. Pre-pandemic We had traveled up north to go to the gurnee antique mall. We looked for a great restaurant and we found one! What could be better than fresh food and chocolate enhancements. The name of this restaurant says it all. I started with cocoa spiced butternut squash soup. Followed by crusted salmon (hint of cocoa) with fabulous roasted brussels sprouts. Don't worry - there are plenty of entrees, salads, and sides for non-chocolate lovers as well. Although we did have a dark chocolate fondue for dessert. And they have cocoa infused butter with fresh baked rolls. As important as the food - The staff is superb. So efficient, fun, kind, and accommodating. And the decor is hip and tasteful. Wood tables and floors, a modern gas fireplace with purple stones is the centerpiece of the space. Purple napkins are the accent in the table settings.More

I really don’t know where to begin. We booked the chocolate Sanctuary for an intimate baby shower for our daughter and son in law and it was perfect! Hailey and her team bent over backwards to accommodate us. The room, the food, the service...everything was...5 star! Saul took care of us and did an exceptional job, he was fantastic. I really can’t say enough about this venue! Be sure and go hungry, there are so many delicious options! Thank you Hailey and Saul, you made our special day even better!More

All plates have a faint chocolate touch, all delicious. Good option of soup and sandwiches but my favorite dish is the scallop risotto. I love when we can take a table by the fire pit, specially if you go on a cold winter day.

Thank you Chocolate Sanctuary for offering your exceptional food for curbside pickup, during these surreal times. Over the years, we’ve dined with you many times. Your curbside alternative did not diminish the quality, flavor, or appeal of your fare. We hope we can all return...to normalcy, and back to inside dining with you, very very soon.More
