Doc and Susan started their journey on the Pro BBQ circuit. For several years they traveled the country competing and doing very well on the pro BBQ trail. Catering business started in 2009 and was a big hit with customers. Next step was a full-service restaurant. They have been ranked one Best of the Best BBQ restaurants in America every year consistently since 2017! Over 300 awards in BBQ contests nationwide. Stop in, ask for Doc!

Quick lunch while passing through

If you're traveling on 55, this reaturaunt is just a few miles off your path. Situated in a new, up and coming area right across from SIUE you will find some tasty BBQ at a reasonable price. The restaurant was clean and adhering to Covid safety protocols. We enjoyed the pulled chicken sandwich, the brisket sandwich and a burger with bacon called the "Piglet". They serve Fritz' s soda bottled in St. Louis so if you're looking for a treat, go for it. The food was hot and fresh. We appreciate the quick service as we needed to get back on the road. The restaurant has a patio where once the temperatures warm up you can dine outside. The serve alcohol if you feel like a drink. We think you will love Doc's Smokehouse as much as we did.

The Makings of a Holiday Meal

No regrets in making the nearly 60-mile round trip from suburban St. Louis to Doc's, to pick up a large order of BBQ & sides for our Memorial Day weekend. My wife & I ordered the Doc's Deluxe Deal plus a handful of other favorite meats & sides, giving us enough to feed ourselves & three guests for separate meals while having plenty of leftovers to last us at least another three meals each. The ribs & brisket & sliced smoked chicken were all prepared to perfection, while the Angus burger & the pulled pork were a half-step down but still very tasty. All of our side orders pleased us & our guests, with my favorites being the potato salad & BBQ baked beans while my wife always saves room for the corn casserole. The smoky smell made my mouth water on my drive back home, and it's been watering regularly ever since then. We will return - and next time I'll remember to add their thick cut pork steak to the order. More mouth watering to follow.

Good Ribs

We were just traveling through and we wanted St. Louis ribs. We were staying in Troy and the reviews for Doc's were very good so it was our choice. It's about 10 minutes from Troy. We each had ribs. For sides we had mac n' cheese and corn casserole. The meal also came with a roll. The ribs were quite good, falling off the bone and hearty. I added additional sauce, but my wife preferred them the way they came. The sides were OK, nothing special. We got there about 5:20 on a Friday night. If you can get there early I would suggest it. It was about three quarters full when we arrived and there may have been two tables open when we left, plus they were doing a brisk takeout business. This is not a fancy place. The building is in a strip mall and seemed fairly new. The food was served with plastic silverware, but it was served to us after we ordered at the counter and our waitress checked on us as we ate. I would go back. But I'd try different sides.

Out of choices

This is a mixed review. Let me say first that the food at this place is always excellent........when they have food! I don’t understand your business practices!! Because your BBQ is so good, we haven’t given up on you yet, but we are getting frustrated. This week was the FOURTH time in the last several weeks that we have arrived between 5:30-6:30pm only to hear that you are out of your top 5 entree choices AGAIN!! Especially during COVID when I’m sure you need the extra business, why don’t you make more food?! I don’t understand the business practice of constantly running out of your most popular choices by 6pm. It’s frustrating for your loyal customers and eventually you will lose them. What time does a person have to arrive to chose from your whole menu? We are working at least until 5:30pm as most people probably are!

Sorry about running out, usually not the case. But, like you mentioned, especially during Covid its harder than ever to judge what to make for the day. We only cook what we think we can sell the next day, meats cook overnight, and cant be made on the fly as other restaurants. If we cook 45 Pork steaks or 30 racks of ribs and have half left over at the end of the day thats hundreds of dollars of bean meat now. We will not serve you leftovers. One Tuesday we sellout, next Tuesday half is scrapped at a huge loss. There are several BBQ joints in St Louis that sell out by 2:00 everyday. I would love to be able to hit the mark everyday where we run out at the last 15 min. Also, you can call in anytime after 11:00 and pre order anything on the menu, and we will hold it for you! Thanks for the review, and we do appreciate you!

Carry Out 45 minutes late and Messed up on sides

My husband and I ordered a pick up/to go order and when we got there we waited 45 minutes because the person I had spoken to the day before messed up our order. We had six entrees and 12 sides and cost was $99. They said the person I spoke to did not put down the correct time (told him it would be 12:30 and they put down 2:30 instead). So we waited 45 minutes and finally left. We took carry outs to our friends and when we opened the carry out the sides were not correct. We had ordered potato salad and got cucumbers instead. I called the manager and left a message, no one returned our call. This was our first time ordering from this restaurant and the last.

Save your Money, go somewhere else!

We were from out of town and went out of our way to try this placed based on their 5 star review well let me tell you it’s not worth it. We ordered meals for four of us and my husband sandwich ( Big Boar) mind you they only have a few sandwiches on the menu came out missing half the items not once, not twice but three times!! All of us were able to finish our food before the final got his sandwich right. No one offered anything and just kept saying, “ oh I’m am not sure, I’ll go see”. The kids were no more than in the early 20s no one is running this place or cares. Save your money!

First I would like to apologize for your experience, as you can tell we are the only 5 star listed on Trip advisor. (We actually have 14 different sandwiches counting the special) As far as missing half the items out of 3 it was the sausage, I dealt with the cooks and the server at closing when I found out there was an issue with your sandwich. We do have several 20 ish college students working here (college is right across the street) But, we also have some in their 30's and 40's. We also had both owners there on Saturday who are always willing to make things right. You could have asked for a manager and we could fix your issue on the fly. Once you leave I cant fix your issue. Mistakes were made, I'll own it. But we have 5 star reviews for a reason, give us another try when your in town, ask for Doc, we will take care of you...

Best Q in the area. Ordered both ribs and wing (obviously had take home left) and very happy with both. Beans were flavorful and mac n cheese creamy. Pleasant, quick service as well.

Doc’s delight

We arrived near closing time, which is 7pm, and being a bbq place, they were out of several items, which is understandable. We had the turkey and ribs. Out of this world delicious. Turkey was moist and flavorful, the ribs were nothing short of spectacular. Sides, baked beans, slaw, and corn casserole. All of which were great. 4 different sauces on the table. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back in the near future. Gotta try their burnt ends and brisket, can’t wait. This is a must visit place if in the Edwardsville area.

No line when we arrived, but that quickly changed. The food was average. Our meals came fairly quickly, but the other couple finally had to ask where theirs was. Price was a little higher than we felt it should be. Had to ask for BBQ sauce and jalapenos.

I miss their great food

Great food but good luck ordering carry out. I have called in for carry out at least a dozen times and they do not answer. I try to use their on line ordering service and a message appears that it is not working.

Again, sorry for your experience, If your talking about Thursday, we posted on the door and on all our social media that we would be closed due to a kitchen maintainece issue that shut our kitchen down for a day. Our phone system has no way for us to shut it off when situations like this happens, we are looking for a system that we can put a message out. as far as online ordering, we shut it off when we are closed so it wont take an order and you show up to a closed business.

"Super Good BBQ"

The food here is so good.The pork steak is huge and is super tender. The brisket was equally good. For sides we had corn casserole, cucumber salad and Mac and cheese. All were very good. Due to covid we had to eat on the patio, but it was a beautiful day, so no problem.I recommend Docs Smokehouse for a great bbq meal.

Large portions and Quick Service

I thought I would have a beer at the bar and order a to-go order. Nope, they do not serve alcohol. After placing my order, it was very fast, maybe 10 minutes. They packed utensils as well. The corn pudding was amazing. One dinner made two meals.

Perhaps the pandemic has just ruined everything. This is not a sit down take order kind of place. There are no adult beverages. It's just ok BBQ. Service was slow. Girl taking the orders was cheerful. Was clean enough.

Must Try

Stopped here on a road trip. It was fantastic bbq!!! Most of us got the pulled pork. It was delicious. The fries were good. The Mac and cheese is incredible! My MIL got the burger and it looked tasty also. She said it was great. Definitely a must try if in the area.

Doc's Smokehouse is a very good barbeque place with outstanding food. An anomaly in a town full of noisy college bars passing themselves off as 'restaurants'. This is the place to go for a really good meal in Edwardsville, IL.
