I love sushi. I mean LOVE it, I could eat it for every meal. Having grown up in California and spent a portion of my life in Hawaii I am spoiled so I was thrilled when I moved near by Toro because its one of my favorites. Fun, unique flavor combonations for the rolls and just such a great cozy atmosphere. Its bYOB so make sure to visit the liquor store across the street on yuor way in and if a spot is open at the sushi bar grab it, the guys who work there are really great and all the servers are nice.

My son loves this place so when we were in the Lincoln Park area we stopped in. The sushi was very good - very fresh. The seaweed salad was excellent. We were lucky to get a table as the restaurant is small and apparently there is always a line. We would come back.

All I can say is to be patient and ready to wait for a table and be hungry!
Space is tight, the and the room and energy is all about the deliciousness coming out of the sushi bar and kitchen.
BYOB so bring your beverage and begin with the jalapeno poppers!
Lot's of smiles going on:)

I love sushi and I have to say this place serves one of the best sushi I’ve ever tasted. Low key atmosphere which is another plus for us and it’s BYOB makes it a great choice for date night. Seat by the bar if you can and talk to the amazing man behind the whole thing “Mitch” - he is absolutely amazing - everything on the menu is good and depends on what you like but get some sashimi for sure, Sunny roll is my favorite but there are so many to chose from . They don’t take reservations so you might have to wait but totally worth it!

The food was good, the prices were great and the service was really fast but not lacking in quality.

I have lived in Chicago my entire life and have been to a ton of sushi places and nothing ever compares to Toro. Everything on their menu is worth the wait and so is the service and Mitch's personality. My family and me and my husband come to Toro on a regular basis and when it's just me and my husband we prefer to sit at the bar and catch up with Mitch. He loves his customers and you can tell her loves what he does - he puts a lot of heart and soul into his sushi and it's delicious. The standard turnover in Chicago for fish is 3 days, with Toro it's 1 day because so many people go there. They do not take reservations, you walk in put your name in with your number and go grab a drink in the neighborhood while you wait for your call, trust me you won't be disappointed.

I have been looking for a more affordable sushi restaurant since I moved to Chicago, and this has been my favorite so far! The food and service were great. I recommend the Sunny! It's BYOB
The only downside - it's a very small place, so sometimes it's hard to hear the person across from you. We were also seated right next to the door and it was freezing!

We live out in the suburbs but occasionally pass literally 100 sushi restaurants in the suburbs to eat at Toro and watch Mitch make sushi magic! It is very reasonable. Although you cannot make reservations and the restaurant is small, you can put your name on the list and the host or hostess will text you when your table is ready. The restaurant is also BYOB so plan ahead if you would like a glass of wine or a beer!

AMAZING ! Small place with big flavor!!
Every roll of sushi we had was so delicious, my favor: spicy tuna and oh my god! We were lucky to be able to get in, since it is a very small place seats are limited ! Can't wait to go back for more.

We love Mitch's sushi! They are inventive, awesomely tasty, and one of a kind. You won't experience sushi like this elsewhere. The downside is the long wait time. They don't take reservations, and they're ALWAYS full, unless you show up at 5:00pm.

My boyfriend and friends often plan nights out specifically to go here for sushi. Fantastic food. Reasonably priced. Love the staff. BYOB, which is nice, and keeps the cost down as well.

Be prepared for the wait but there is a great place for a drink down the street and they will call your phone when there is room. Be sure to sit at the bar if you can.

This is a tiny Japanese restaurant. But the food tasted great. The problem is that the price is very high. You should make a reservation for this restaurant.

After arriving into Chicago from a long road trip from San Francisco we decided to check this place out. Chef Mitch moved to Chicago from Monterey and offers a creative and delicious menu. We ordered four special rolls between the two of us and the most memorable was "the Pig and the Sea" roll with salmon, spicy scallop, bacon, yamahgoboh, jalapeño, cilantro, cucumber, avocado, tobiko and spicy mayo. This is some of the best sushi I ever ate.
This is a BYOB establishment but they to not allow hard liquor. This place is very popular and after dining here I observed that Chef Mitch has a very loyal following. If you have the opportunity to sit at the bar, say hello to him.
The restaurant does not take reservations however the staff will gladly put you on a wait list.

I ordered gyozas and three different kinds of nigiri and it was all delicious. The restaurant is conveniently located near the stop of bus lines 22 and 36. If I visit Chicago again, I will definitely go to eat there again.
