This was my first speak easy bar in Chicago! My friends took me there for a girls night out and we enjoyed 300% for sure. Cocktails were expensive but I guess I paid for their atmosphere and reputation.

Our party of five enjoyed visiting and trying new cocktails. It's a nice "chill" spot that encourages low key atmosphere.

This place is so swanky, and I LOVE it. It's hard to find, guarded, dark, private, romantic, quiet, and the drinks are amazing. Forget the price, because it's hard to find such great cocktails, even in such a large city. I've definitely paid $12 for far inferior drinks. I've never had a date here, but I wish I had -... More

Very interesting cocktails. This place is VERY swanky. The bartenders are hilarious and it is very entertaining to watch them mix drinks. Going to this place will make you feel very cool.

Went to The Violet Hour for birthday drinks. The door is hidden which makes it even more fun and mysterious. It is a bit dark inside so watch your step! The darkness provides an air of seduction and secrecy. Cell phone use is not allowed. They provide knowledgeable service and a huge variety of both classic and unique cocktails. Would... More

We ended our evening in Wicker Park at the Violet Hour and we were so glad we did. Annika the bartender was so sweet- knew so much about the different cocktails and made for great company as well. Highly recommend this bar/lounge.

To be honest, I think my cool level went up at least 100 points the moment I opened the door to The Violet Hour (assuming I was cool to start with). My fellow colleagues and I were on a hunt for a good spot to get a cocktail nearby. We had just finished up a fun cooking class in the... More

As some of the other reviews have mentioned, this is a throwback kind of place. The kind of place that makes you feel like you're doing something a little bit risky, a little bit naughty, but mostly just a little bit awesome. You gotta' be paying attention, or you'll miss it. Once you get in, though, it's something of an... More

This is a fun concept, and we enjoyed the intrigue of finding this hidden gem. Once inside, the cocktails and nibbles were appropriately interesting, and the service was just the right amount of attentive.
