Went there not knowing anything about this place. Greeted by Momma who said I'll make you anything. The Italian beef was just north of spectacular. Momma made the granddaughter breakfast which was awesome. The prices are unreal, the staff and Momma are awesome, the food is the best!!! We went back the next day for more and wish Branko's was in our Town. If you want to experience fantastic, go to Branko's and say hi to Momma..She is spectacular!!!

Since 1976, Branko's Sandwich Shop has been a go-to destination in the heart of the DePaul University campus on Chicago's North Side. It's a mom-and-pop sandwich shop, with Momma in charge, that specializes in hot dogs, burgers, subs, breakfast sandwiches and omelettes. Located at 1118 West Fullerton Avenue, east of Racine, at Seminary, it is a cash only operation that is open from 10 to 8 Monday through Friday, 11 to 8 on Saturday and for 24 hours on Sunday. Start with a sausage, egg and cheese sandwich for breakfast. For lunch, you can't pass up an Italian beef, which always draws rave reviews from customers. Alas, I prefer my Italian beef without peppers. But my wife indulges sweet peppers. not the hot variety. In Chicago, everybody has their favorite Italian beef but Branko's is as good as it gets. Momma's home-made chili goes well with a Vienna beef hot dog or corned beef and Swiss sub or an Italian cold cuts sub. DePaul students also enjoy Branko's double cheeseburger, chili dog, Polish sausage, grilled chicken, gyros, fish cod fillet, Patty Melt and tamale with chili. At Branko's, it's like taking a step back in time with all the DePaul memorabilia littering the walls. But it's Momma's food that keeps customers coming back for more.

I used to go to Branko’s all the time when I was a DePaul student back in the 80s. We stopped in today. Things haven’t changed a bit. Meaning great food at great prices in a great environment. Momma cooks everything just the way you like it. The walls are littered with reviews and some old DePaul pictures. I felt like I just traveled 30 years back in time. Wonderful place!!!

We were riding bikes around Chicago and searched for a local joint to grab some lunch. This place is near DePaul University and did not disappoint. After asking for suggestions, we decide on an Italian Beef sandwich (we were provided a sample when I asked what it was) and a grilled chicken on pita with all the fixings. Both were terrific, but the Italian Beef was killer. Add the sweet and hot peppers. The shop has been open since 1976 and does not look like it's been updated since then, but was clean. Friendly service with a smile. One con is there are no public bathrooms, but we went next door to the car wash.

We took our six kids (I know) here before watching Blue Man Group near Lincoln Park. The owner is an wonderful person who bent over backward to make our dinner enjoyable. My Italian beef sandwich was great and everyone else enjoyed their dinner from the wide menu. The owner shared a bit about her inspirational story and it is clear she is a selfless and lovely person.

A humble fast food restaurant with street parking on Fullerton that has been there for over a generation. Order at the counter. Served to your table. Simple interior. Great homemade soup. Wonderful warm service.

I have been going to Branko's for the past ten years. I almost always get the gyro sandwich featuring tasty meat, onions, tomatoes, flatbread, and tzatziki sauce. The french fries are good too. Anja, the lady who operates the restaurant, recently told me that she makes homemade soups every morning. I ordered the vegetable soup for my wife, and she really enjoyed it. Anja and her parents and husband are very friendly and treat their customers like family members.

I love the food and especially their chicken salad is so yummy! I have had so many different dishes and cannot tell you what is my next favorite dish. I can close my eyes and point at a dish in the menu and I'll like it. Service by Andja is outstanding, thank you!!! I love the home atmosphere in the this huge city of Chicago!

As soon as you walk in, this family run business greets you and the service forward approach they take starts. You order, they serve the drinks and food, then you settle up... best Chicago dog I've had here!

Months after my last visit, I still crave Branko's food. It's good, it's cheap, it's fast, it's convenient, just make sure you bring cash. However, the real shining spot of this burger joint are the owners/operators. Not only are they friendly, but they are built to deal with the college crowd. That means a sympathetic ear for those seeking comfort food and stern words for the drunk and rowdy. Although DePaul students tend to look alike, the good people of Branko's will not just remember your face, but treat you like an honored guest. Branko's exemplifies the way service ought to be.

You'd think that living on the Gold Coast would limit the number of good sandwich shops and pizza parlors and hot dog stands that are easily accessible. Not so. There are many of them in the Lincoln Park and Logan Square neighborhoods. One of the best sandwich shops is Branko's Submarines at 1118 West Fullerton Avenue. It isn't very glitzy. But they've been a popular destination in the area for more than 30 years. You have a choice, stand and eat at the counter along the right wall or order a carry-out and take it home to eat while watching a football or basketball or hockey or baseball game. At Branko's, it's called "stand food." They serve Chicago classics--Vienna beef hot dogs, grilled chicken, Italian beef and gyros, all prepared with a personal touch by the same family that has operated the restaurant since 1976. I'm particularly fond of the Vienna beef hot dog with natural casing and dill pickle slices or the hot dog with chili and the Italian beef sandwich with paper-thin sliced beef that has a lot of backbone. There are a dozen varieties of subs to choose from, including Italian cold cuts, turkey, roast beef, corned beef and Swiss, tuna, grilled chicken, gyros, salami and cheese and ham and provolone. And don't forget Branko's specialties, including grilled chicken, patty melt, Italian sausage, Italian beef, cod filet, corned beef, reuben, turkey and gyros. It's usually too crowded to stand around and enjoy the ambience so we prefer to order a couple of hot sandwiches and a couple of cold sandwiches to go. We live only a few blocks away from the DePaul University campus but we usually finish off the hot sandwich before we get home. Just before the kickoff.

I'm here right now enjoying my delicious omelet, chocolate biscuit box cake desert and tea, having pleasant conversation with the owner of the restaurant, Andja. I'm learning so much already about life and food and looking forward to my next visit together with my family and friends. I love it so much, that I'm taking 2 veggie pita falafel sandwiches and 2 gyros sandwiches to go to my family and 2 friends. I wish to try more of what this restaurant can offer, but I'll leave it for my next visit. Strongly recommend this gem! This unforgettable time and yummy food makes me feel great! Nice way to start the day & weekend, thank you Andja! See for yourself, come and experience what real restaurant should feel like! I love every second spent here. Enjoy! Galia

We visited DePaul University today on a college tour, and finished right at lunch time. Once again, the TripAdvisor app came through with this little gem. From what I could gather from the owners, Branko's has been open for over 30 years. They have a wide variety of burgers, gyros, sandwiches/subs, and Polish sausages/hot dogs. Our group got the salami and cheese sub, and a Polish sausage. I got the gyros on a pita. All was very tasty. If you are in the DePaul University area, I highly recommend a visit to Branko's for lunch or dinner!
