Came here on Mother’s Day, place was packed. Did not have a reservation, but was seated within 10 min for a family of 8. Our first time and will definitely be back. Ordered a ton of food, loco moco and Kalbi was amazing. Panang poutine and the pork belly tacos were delicious. My daughter loved their pad Thai and my son loved the ribs. My Mai tai was very strong and my husband loved his zombie. Great service

very varied menu, affordable drinks of many colors, friendly service. I would avoid this place on evenings with live music but that’s me. I’m not judging the music acts: I generally want to talk to my friends over dinner.

This is such a great restaurant with a variety of food. We walked here from the aquarium for lunch. This is a Hawaii themed restaurant with colors, surf boards. Their shot glasses are so cool with star wars glasses, golden girls and marvel characters. We got a lychee martini with a beautiful orchid, frozen mango colada. We enjoyed the panang curry absolutely delicious and tsunami roll. We liked the bbq ribs, thai chicken. It was a great meal all around.

Service very slow, and then the food turned out to be disappointing. Ordered vegetarian mee goreng, then showed on receipt as vegan no egg ramen stir fry. Didn't taste very interesting, didn't finish my plate.

Thank you for your visit. Just to clarify, I have an Indonesian Veggie Mie Goreng topped with a fried egg and I have a Vegan Malaysian Mee Goreng (which shows up as the Vegan NO EGG Ramen Stir-Fry) this is to make sure there are no mix-ups in the kitchen for VEGAN vs Veggie dishes. It is a shame, as many folks love the flavors the Mie/Mee Goreng & Nasi Goreng as it is difficult to find at many Asian places. I apologize for the service as it has been quite difficult hiring staff. I only have 1 server + 1 foodrunner/food packer + 1 running the front. The entire team has been drained for several months and I am extremely appreciative of my entire team for sticking with us during these difficult times for EVERYONE.

Food was delicious, plain and simple. Generous helpings and such attentive staff. They were really invested in keeping their clients happy and made such a unique effort to keep my family of 5 happy. That being said, I was expecting to be blown away and I wasn’t surprisingly. Maybe an ambiance? I wanted to love this more than I experienced which is a little bit of a letdown.

Hidden gem with great brunch drinks and food. The Tikki decorations and vibe were so cute. Drinks with orchids were beautiful. Poke bowls were awesome and they had great vegetarian options too. Very wide ranging menu from Chinese, Thai, Sushi, Hawaiian. Sign apologized for slow service due to lack of staff during covid downturn. We definitely be back!

Oooh weee! This place is so beautiful when you walk in. It’s so divine, elegant, enthralling, enticing, excellent, exquisite and just everything you could ask for to have a great time! The drinks are absolute phenomenal. The food is great and the staff is cool AF! The most amazing Pacific Islanders run the spot and they have the most appealing attitudes. They were so so nice.

Mahalo for your visit!!! Soooo happy you enjoyed your dining experience. Just to clarify, my great grandfather travelled to Hawaii to study western medicine, met a native, married her and convinced her to go back to China to raise their family. I was brought up more Cantonese, but embrace my Hawaiian culture through food, music & dance. I hope for a quick return visit real soon.

I found hair in my food. Not going back. This place grosses me out. When you call people out, they don’t take accountability instead will deflect and get all defensive. Not going back.

We went for lunch, and regret going in. This place is probably better at dinner or when they have a show. My 1st time here and i just wanted to leave after hearing how the waitress answered our questions. They don't have physical menus, so while viewing the menu in my phone I saved in my cart. So when she came to take the order, she said " you can't open the cart just tell me what you want". So going through the menu again... ugh...it took so long to order. Some stuff said beef and we asked if we can get shrimp instead and she said "no you must pay extra for that". ???? why The sauce in my food was very salty and it was supposed to be medium spicy,,,,, it wasn't. I lost my excitement for this place :( it scratched off my list.

Great place to go hang-out and have a variety of dishes. Fair priced and very friendly staff. The owner remembered us after one visit and is a wonderful example of a restauranteur. If you are looking for a good choice of Asian and Polynesian cuisine, and local-place prices then this is the spot. UrbanJoe calls this a must stop.

On Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 1 PM, I dined at Asian Outpost by myself (I usually dine with others). There were perhaps, four customers dining inside (they have Al Fresco dining). The waitress barely spoke English. Another staff person had to come over to answer my question,"are the desserts made in house (they are not)?" When couples arrived, they were greeted warmly. The staff even engaged them in limited conversation. As you enter the restaurant, it is cluttered and nasty looking. The inside is pleasant and very relaxing. The dish I ordered was Kage Shadow listed under Signature Japanese. My lunch was 5 star (*****). My dish was beautifully presented and delicious. One a scale of 1 - 10, it was a 10. FYI, I'm always respectful, easy going and a big tipper. So why one star? The staff made me feel like an interloper, because I dined alone. As I left, the staff person who answered my question regarding their dessert menu, totally ignored me. Being treated in such a cold manner, spoiled my lunch. The staff at the Asian Outpost should be trained to treat each customer respectfully and made to feel welcome. I've dined at many other neighborhood restaurants in the South Loop, where I'm made to feel welcomed and my wait person always acknowledges my departure. When you dine at the Asian Outpost, go with someone.

No explanation for our delay in trying this hidden-in-plain-sight-neighborhood-gem, so glad we decided to walk over tonight. Many seating options including sidewalk for pleasant weather. We started with sushi & the generous bowl of Vietnamese Home Style Noodle Soup. My husband was very happy with his tuna sushi & I enjoyed the soup although it's too noodle-heavy as a starter & definitely enough to share. The dense, slightly sweet chicken fried rice was tasty another shareable dish & the Smothered Roasted Pork Belly was delicious (too fatty from a texture perspective for me) the non-greasy sauce had a deep, rich flavor, generous enough to allow for my husband's breakfast experiment tomorrow morning topped with over-easy eggs. We plan to return, from the full dining room & counter full of carry-out orders, we are not alone in our affection for Asian Outpost. .

Asian Outpost can best be summed up by the term “wasted potential”. This place really needs some refinement. First…the good. This place is in a great location and the South Loop desperately (and I mean desperately) needs some good restaurants. I can see that the hundreds of people that walk by this place every day are intrigued by the name and the large menu; and the food (at least the Chinese, Thai and sushi part of the menu) is actually quite good. Stick to the egg rolls, Pad Thai, and fried rice and you won’t be disappointed. Their beer selection and some of their cocktails (like the Freaky Tiki and Asian Martinis) are also quite refreshing. Now…for the bad. As others have posted, this business is definitely geared towards take-out and delivery and stuck in a rut. The staff hasn’t been trained properly (Ever hear of a Chinese fire-drill? Watch the staff look for your bill). Your food and drinks will take at least 20 minutes to arrive (Don’t eat here if you’re in a hurry). The menu is way too big and confusing. (The Hawaiian, Korean and “Soul Food” part of the menu is pretty awful). Large menus like theirs are just obnoxious and in an Asian restaurant can be downright dangerous (The greasy fried items on the menu like the sliders and fried chicken should be renamed “Mao Tse Tung’s Revenge”). The interior décor is totally amateur and way too bright (You’ll need a pair of sunglasses and some SPF 45 to finish dinner). A hodgepodge of Asian trinkets and tableware lit by way too many halogen bulbs make this place look cheap and dated. When I hear “Asian Outpost” I want to see a charming import-export motif; shipping containers with Asian labels, pictures of exotic trading ports and the like not some hanging LED lights and Chinese lanterns from the year 1989. I really want to like this place but it needs a professional overhaul. Cut the menu in half, bring the staff and décor up to Chicago standards, make it more refined, less confusing and this restaurant could be the gem of the South Loop.

South Loop
This downtown neighborhood offers a variety of activities ranging from cultural to sporting. If you happen to visit during football season, you may bump into a boisterous few fans on their way to a Bears game on the southernmost tip of South Loop. On the flip side, Museum Campus offers cultural and educational experiences in its planetarium, museum and aquarium, all situated along the lakefront. Grant Park is one of Chicago’s premier locations for green space and recreation with views of Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline. Take a stroll down memory lane in the historic Prairie District where you can enjoy views of old historic homes. Restaurants, theaters, and clubs are spread throughout the neighborhood along with a collection of burger joints along Michigan Avenue just across from the park.
