Was visiting Chicago Art Institute and asked a local who worked there where best Italian Beef was - this was his recommendation. My husband and I were not disappointed. Hot peppers and dipped was fantastic! Fresh cut fries delicious. Would be regular visitors for sure if we lived near Al's!

Too bad we waited until our last day visiting Chicago to go to Al's, probably would have gone every day. We didnt really know how/what to order, but the cashier was very helpful. Beef, cheese, hot and sweet peppers, bread, fries, all top-notch.

Well they got my order wrong so check it before you inhale it. I didn't get my order fixed because we inhaled it. Feels like we did it in one bit. It was very good!! My favorite of the 2 places we tried.

So I have never heard about Italian beef until I visited Chicago. My cousin who has been lived in the city for many decades took me to this place. The building seems bit old and shady, and when I stepped in, the workers looked very serious and not smiling at all. I was intimidated when I walked in. Then the... More

I wasn't sure what to expect but i was very pleasantly surprised. The beef sandwich was delicious and full of flavor. The people there were very friendly. Next time we visit Chicago we will go again!

We chose this place because my hubby loves meat, well this was one of his best sandwiches he has ever tried. Even I enjoyed their beef sandwich soaked in aus jus. Would recommend it very highly, enjoy! Next time would order the aus jus on the side as the wet option of the beef sandwich was really soggy.

We stopped here for lunch on our last day of vacation... big mistake. We should have came here on our first day. I think we would have had each lunch/dinner here... It was amazing. This is true Chicago food. Get the #1 on the menu ( Italian beef sandwich), you will thank me later.

My son and I visited Al's Beef when we were in Chicago. We saw this on Man versus food and they made such a big deal on how good the food was. I have to say that it was a very bland sandwich. Not worth going out of your way or for the cost.

Cheap, tasty and delicious!! Fast service. Beef and Italian sausage dipped in gravy was the best. Will try polish sausage next time!!

There are many places serving Italian beef in Chicago. Al's is my favorite. I visit Chicago pretty regularly and have been to Al's several times, but the only thing I've ever ordered is the #1 with giardiniera, dipped. (I always think I'm going to get something else, but that #1 is so good I just can't bring myself to ordering... More
